Survey for the future
Karkarov replied to Sking's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I enjoyed one of the later questions. If this game were to be developed by one of these companies how would you feel? Blizzard.... "Absolutely lost all interest".... Click. -
Character picture issues
Karkarov replied to hrwd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I will only caution you in that Divinity Original Sin 2 also uses much much higher quality models for their characters than what Eternity, or Eternity 2 are likely to use. So the effect, so to speak, may not work as well for Eternity 2 as it does Original Sin 2. -
Tabletop RPG adaptation

You can it just doesn't have much impact. I have played min max characters and all arounders, neither was noticeably harder or easier to beat the game with.- 18 replies

Best class for solo, lore wise?
Karkarov replied to Ben No.3's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
If you really plan to do the lone wanderer solo playthrough Cipher is by far the best lore choice. The watcher being a Cipher makes sense, as much of a watchers ability has to do with Animancy and Ciphers are tied directly to Animancy itself. A Cipher would be more easily able to cope with becoming a watcher, and there is suggestions littered in the game that they are more prone to it. They tend to be distrusted and keep to their own company from the get go. Lastly considering the entire plot of the game about animancy and questions of the soul, what is god, etc.... those are questions a Cipher might see themselves asking due to their own experiences and life. In my mind the main character being a Cipher just works and makes the most sense out of all the classes. Cipher is also the only class literally created for this game and that says a lot. Chanters are just fancy bards, and the rest are all "staple" classes. The only thing in D&D close to a cipher is a psionicist and even they are different. -
Class popularity
Karkarov replied to hrwd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
My favorite is actually the cipher simply because of the unique and interesting place they have in the game itself. That said my current playthrough I am not using one. Fighter is probably #2. My least favorite is easy, Monk. I absareakinglutely hate asian fisticuff martial arts based monks in european themed RPG's. I consider them the cancer of fantasy style games like Eternity. -
Facing a Certain Dilemma
Karkarov replied to Soaren's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Okay, seriously, stop listening to the whiners who want you to believe a game is broken because it has like 3 bugged talents. Screw the forums, turn them off, go play the game. Find the munchkin metagamer in your brain and tell him to shut up. Or you can keep listening to those two voices and never play the game, because the game is never going to be "perfect bug free" and it was always striving for balance not broken ass MC dominates everything. -
Lol I played a melee cipher and found going defensive was the worst choice you could make. Simply put, you still bring two tanks, you just treat your cipher like they are a rogue and do what you can to make sure they don't get aggro. And yes, a melee cipher will crush a ranged one for damage. Especially if you put a hard hitting two handed weapon like a estoc on them. That said, just like the melee rogue, they do need some micro management or they won't be as effective.

I am going to agree with Abel here. Is there a story you have to think about? Yes. It is really hard thinking? I don't feel like it is. Would I call it "deep on philosophy"? No, I would not. If I had to rate this game on how deep the philosophy hole goes I would say the shallow end of the pool, maybe nudging into normal depth. Or in philosophical terms "And thus Zarathustra thought about spaking but changed his mind".

Not liking a game isn't a crime, just don't play it. Not sure the reason for the post? No one can convince you to like something you don't.

Eora World Map
Karkarov replied to Mraicor's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The only problem I have with the idea is that it looks like the actual world map with slight tweaks. I would rather their world map just be their own thing. -
You realize you are jumping in a pit so deep that without the spirits helping your fall it would be instant death on impact right? Also, you are jumping in. A ladder was never on the table. As for the boon, no one says you can't get to this point of the story then walk away. You can push the story and still have a crap ton of content left to play. It is on the player if they choose to leave the story content for dead last.

Maybe if your complaint wasn't "One talent is bugged and I refuse to do any of the various means of simply avoiding that talent" people might take you more seriously. If you wanted to walk on the left side of the road but the sidewalk was being dug up by a construction worker would you still walk on that side? Would you take a moment to complain at the worker for doing his job as you go by? Or would you simply cross to the right side of the road? As for how this bug is a "minor annoyance" uh no, it isn't. You simply don't pick the talent. You're done, you have absolutely one hundred percent avoided the bug permanently. If you already took it you can get a respec and boom, you have avoided the bug permanently. People who don't realize there is a bug? Who cares? If you don't know it is there then you don't know it is happening and as a result has no effect on your experience. It is the ol Tree falls in the woods gag, yeah, it happened, but since no one knows or cares it doesn't actually matter.

And beamdog is working on developing how many new games, on how many different engines, and how many of their games were made by someone else and were already mostly bug free? What's that? No new games, all existing ones on the same engine, and every game they made was made by someone else and started mostly bug free? Hmm. Apple meet orange.

Just a very fast and dirty response. You are forgetting the key factor. It is a Fighter talent. It only converts grazes to hits, not hits to crits, and the Fighter is one of the highest accuracy characters in the game so already grazes less often than most melee characters to begin with. Is it a dps increase, sure, but it is hardly make or break or this huge must have talent. The fact that in one patch it didn't work period and many players didn't even notice is telling.

people find balance important. The bug OP is up in arms about is a problem specifically because it affects balance. Except it doesn't really because of a few reasons. 1: He can pick other talents. 2: It still isn't half as game breaking as he claims it is, and in it's normal state it actually is a pretty "meh" talent. 3: Pretty sure in 3.02 some people claimed for them it didn't even work, so being OP is better than not working period. 4: Don't we already have a Obsidian post stating there will be some more patching where this will likely be fixed?

"HA, HA HA HAAAAAAA!"
Karkarov replied to Pax_Empyrean's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Never has there been a post on this forum as deserving of a like as yours, like has been given good sir! -
Right because you complained about the confident aim bug non stop up to now, you never said anything about the "game breaking" bug caused by stat stacking on saves which got fixed. Oh wait, you did. Pages of it. When you thank Obsidian for fixing the bug you claim made the game "100% unplayable" your complaints might carry a smidge of weight. Until then it just sounds like someone intentionally gimping themselves complaining because gimping themselves makes the game hard. Cold hard reality. There are few, if any, games on pc that are actually bug free. The only person taking a piss on Obsidian's fan base is you, by claiming your opinions are sane or in any way represent the majority of them. This game is totally playable and any real major bug is quashed. Oh god, one talent is still bugged, my character is so gimped! Get over it and choose a different talent.
