  1. Different strokes for different folks. If I ran an online reviews site I wouldn't post crap unless someone was on staff just in case something went wrong or a last second change had to happen.
  2. I would assume it is lifted now, but bear in mind it is only 10am on the east coast of the US. Many of the people who do reviews for major outlets may not even be at work yet.
  3. Seriously, there are in game tutorials. You can at any time hover anything for tooltips from stats, to specific terms in conversations like names of cities, to getting a detailed breakdown of DPS right off your character sheet, not to mention every single ability in the game. There is a fully detailed combat log you can review if you have questions about something that happened. There is metric tons of in game info to explain the systems to you and how they work. If that somehow is not enough, you can view dozens of hours of gameplay breakdowns on youtube. Lastly, don't listen to the grognards. All classes are viable and useful in this game, period. Play what you want to play, there are no "trap" builds designed to make characters that suck. Everything is viable right down to a party of all rogues, ranger wizard multiclassing, and monks using weapons. Just play on normal difficulty, or even lower if all you care about is story, and enjoy the game.
  4. Try not to be sick, maybe get 1-2 days off from work, maybe take a shower before start, and become a total shut in while playing the game. Other than that nothing special. Since it has become a thing I should mention I do in fact wear clothing while gaming, and posting on forums, so there is that.
  5. Importing my Cipher, will probably make him a multi class Cipher/Fighter though. Have no intention of behaving differently between games, though my character is a bit enigmatic to begin with. As in all those druid groups are dead, killed Kolsc and Raedric myself, sided with Doemenals, Berath and I are pals, etc etc. If I had to give my character a D&D alignment it would probably be true neutral.
  6. Pretty sure any party build works regardless of difficulty. The only time optimum builds really matter is if you are trying to solo path of the damned or something.
  7. Subclasses are classes. If you a choose to be a Assassin subclass it replaces Rogue as your class name, literally your character sheet will not say Rogue, it will say Assassin.
  8. Go check out the builds forum. My advice though would be to just play the game, pay attention to tutorials, and learn it for yourself. Deadfire (just like Eternity 1) has been designed so all classes are viable and the game can be completed with all sort of parties. Worrying about "optimum" builds in a single player RPG is just silly.
  9. So, you can't review a game without finishing it? Patently not true. Yes a game can get worse over time, but if the game is 40 hours long and you loved the first 30, what are the odds the last 10 are going to suddenly suck, or do something so bad you now hate the whole game despite loving the majority of it? Pretty slim. Film and food is about the worst example I could ever think of. Film requires 3 hours of a reviewers time, tops, food maybe 1-2 hours. Deadfire takes 80+ hours to play to completion. That isn't apples to oranges, that is apples to pork BBQ. As for "lists" evidence please? I remember the old Kane and Lynch nonsense, good review or else? Guess what, they released a crappy review anyway. And years later when Kane and Lynch 2 released, funny story, the guy who wrote the scathing review of 1 was told to review part 2 as well. Also these are video games, even if you get on a "list" somehow, you can still just buy a copy and do a non release day review.
  10. Absolutely concur, and I like Angry Joe for the most part though he has gotten a bit uh old hat lately. That said, there are always degrees of professionalism. While I just said I like Angry Joe for the most part, I would not rank him very high on the charts of said professionalism if you feel me.
  11. It will look bad. Every NPC in the game has a water color portrait variant they use in conversations. Even the joe blow basic vendor guy who never does anything more important than sell food and such has one. If it were just your characters, it would be easy to remove them from the game. As is, the only option now is either make a non water color for every npc that ever speaks. (good luck with that), or try moving them all to a new folder so the game can't find them and hope the game doesn't crash. Also you should probably play the game before assuming, I think the water color pics actually look very good and fit nicely with the overall design theme of the game.
  12. I seriously doubt any codes have been missed. I imagine a number of them will be found once the review embargo is released and major outlets get to post their reviews. Also I expect quite a few to pop up in official Obsidian release tweets etc throughout the day.
  13. Well I am curious how people are getting physical copies since 1: that isn't how it is supposed to work, and 2: they have already stated physical goods are delayed. That said, I doubt the cd has anything on it other than a key letting you install the game via steam. The preload is 16gb, if you got to 16 gb and it stopped it sounds like you need to wait for the real release time then the preload can be completed. Real release is roughly 5 hours and a handful of minutes from the time of this post.
  14. Those choices are where the "bonus minor reactivity" come from. Because your import may include data on those small choices that does not exist in the hand made states. I am assuming the minor reactivity is just going to be stuff like what you got in Mass Effect series. Oh look that crime boss I spared on the Citadel is now at the bar in Omega station and I can have a short conversation with him. That sort of thing.
  15. That is one method. You also have to be careful of the Dwarf Against Obsidian Front in game, as they have ankle biter units which can cause you to fall down as well. They are out to make the game hell and force Obsidian to include a dwarf as full companion in Eternity 3.
  16. Well who knows, they might have special portraits for them in the real release.
  17. What do you mean "hardcopy"? There is no such thing. Even the physical edition of the game comes with a Steam Key, not an install CD, and physical rewards were delayed.
  18. Every choice of any significance will be available. Considering there is an entire ending slide dedicated to the orlan baby, I am going to assume that means it is significant. The stuff you won't be able to choose is very minor side quest stuff. Did you help the woman in Gilded Vale get potion for her pregnancy? If you sided with the Doemenals did you kill the guy like you were told, or let him flee Defiance Bay? Stuff like that won't be in it. Stuff like who did you side with in the Raedric conflict? Is definitely going to be included.
  19. I saw Cipher is God Tier Rogue is mid God Tier Monk is low God Tier And everyone else is low Suck Tier Except Wizard, they are OMG UNPLAYABLE Tier. Of course my beta impressions say every class was totally playable and could be effective if you had a clue what you are doing, and tier lists are stupid by definition. Probably just a bad first impression though.
  20. It was, but you can still add it back, and a water color version was already posted earlier in the thread,
  21. You guys should probably be aware this thread is ancient and basically every companion portrait has been updated since this thing started. Including Pallegina.
  22. It releases when the game releases. Like the vast majority of all review embargo's.
  23. God I really hate near release day poster flood. There is a review embargo until release day, like 95% of all video games these days. There is no reason to think the game will be anything other than well received.
  24. Probably, there is for every other RPG. There has not been an official announcement though.
  25. Also it isn't t minus one day anyway. It is still roughly 26 hours from release.
