Fair enough I guess. It is just really frustrating to me that people who are not even much invested in these games and not even supported it get so much too see from a game while the people, which are the reason this game exists in the first place have not seen any kind of longer gameplay at all. I think no one could ask for 30 Minutes or more but maybe just 5-10 minutes of an "random" encounter with a bit of commentary sound really reasonable to me.

I know it it much to ask but is there any way to see the E3 demo as well? Maybe only for backers or best for everyone. The one thing I really hate in this industry is this kind business practice that keeps people from seeing these almost public demos on these conventions.... Even though you would probably get much better feedback and publicity from fans instead of clueless game journalists...

The type of people who only play games for romances are precisely the group of people I would choose not to share a forum with. It's like casting a 'Summon Creepy BSN Hivemind' spell. who here is even talking about the Mass effect or Dragon age romance? Most people want a mature love story or romance. Even stuff like it was with Triss and Gerald in the Witcher would be enough. Not the sex card collecting cards but the relationship between Triss and Gerald
-
If you want to have a real mature story over a longer time frame then lets say 1-2 months there is no way romance should not be included in it. Love plays a huge factor in our life and to have a more mature and and compelling story and experience you need romance. But again do it just right, Don't do it so you can reach the final conversation and scene in 30 minutes but do it tied to a story if you go that path. Don't do it because for the sake of romance but for the sake of the story. Don't make it possible that you can romance everyone but rather make it someone special doesn't matter if men or women. Do not make a hunting and grind game out of it. Have one special story for ONE companion only!!! In this regard western developer should actually look at JRPGs. Yes the romances there are very cliched and more teen like but they actually know how to integrate love into a story of a game.
-
Nope its not new, I've been making this point for ages. But its not as simple as that, I would rather say you will increase the fan base as Romances are popular and Romance do draw certain loyal groups of people who love discussing and supporting them. And by increasing the fan base you would assume that these people would buy PE and that will generate more revenue. Keep in mind this isn't necessarily a good thing; Mass Effect, for example had a massive romance fanbase and things got so rabid that they ended up having to close their romance forums. Bioware also made a DLC that essentially pandered to said audience. You do attract more people, sure, but many of these people are the same kinds of people who obsess over fanfiction and care more about romancing than the actual core mechanics of the game. Again do it the right way. Do not integrate meaningless romance for the sake of romance integrate romance for the sake of good writing and storytelling.
-
Maybe, can you provide some links or websites that show this is a popular component for RPG fans? I can show you that the Reaper vs Thresher Maw fight was a very popular part of Mass Effect 3 if you want. Therefore, PE should have giant flying machines of destruction fighting against giant worms, because people dig that. We actually want a good game so we better not include anything of the newer Bioware games.

In my opinion nothing is stronger of a bond than love so i really hope there is something like it in it. But that said I want a more mature take on all this. Not like giving them gifts to get their bar higher or just to have sex. I want no childish Bioware romance. What I want is a real romance and love situation you can or can not encounter or follow. And I believe with the writing talent that Obsidian has they cold really do it the right way.

Item Durability
Darji replied to Sensuki's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I would counter this by saying; lets assume gear uses a 100% scale. Assuming players stay on the critical path they will encounter mooks that are within +/- 1-2 levels, which means they will land 95% of their attacks. If every attack/defense degrades armor/weapons by 1 point then I feel "repairs" will become quite the frequent and expensive endeavor. Especially as player progress to more expensive gear. That is why you should do it differently. For example only certain types of enemies will damage your weapons but then it also depends on what weapon you will use. For example a rock golem would damage or even break your sword when you will attack it with that. Same with fire elementals and wooden staffs. And there you could integrate the crafting skill by being able to use some special methods you can learn at a higher crafting level to reinforce or even to prevent your weapons from breaking. Same could be applied to armor. For example Acid attacks will damage your leather armor.- 176 replies

Update #58: Crafting with Tim Cain!
Darji replied to Darren Monahan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Announcements & News
Personally I think it is pretty sad that crafting as a skill is now out of the game. RPGs in general had bad crafting systems (Like in NWN2 for example) and I really hoped that this game could finally show other developers how to do it right. Crafting should be something you need to level. Crafting everything is just stupid in my opinion. Same goes for durability. Durability makes the world way more realistic. Of course it should not break after a few times but after certain things. For example some enemies like Rock Golemsc could damage or even break your sword in very are cases. Crafting could be integrated that you actually can repair or reinforce your weapons like add some special steel or so so that could not happen later in the game. I thought we wanted a core RPG and in such games you need "unpleasant" mechanics so you can deal with the effects or your choices for example not having a party member with a crafting skill in your party and then instead paying a lot of gold to repair it.- 633 replies

This does not work. People will use the tools and features they come across does not matter if this could ruin the experience or not. Look at fast travel for example. Even when people say they will not use it for their first time 99% of them will use it at some point. While I agree that there should not be an exit on every level. Maybe throw in a Boss every 3 or 5 levlels and than you can exit it after that. But not on every level.

Damn this screenshot. And the lore sounds interesting too. And too bad I just backed up Chris Roberts game if I just had known this before I would have added the 30$ to Eternity...

Even in MMO's its stupid. You level more and more and still looking like a level 1 char only because you like that attire more. I am sorry but its just stupid. Especially if people use it just to hide their true level. Different look of armor gives you a form of progression. You actually can see that you look and most likely also are different from before you started your Journey.

That's the developers wanting a certain look for characters and losing out on even equipment customization. Here people are wanting the players to be able to find their own looks without losing out on equipment customization. What DA2 did is far from here. Here people are wanting the players to be able to find their own looks without losing out on equipment customization. What DA2 did is far from here. No its basically the same. If you want to switch to better armor or more expensive one you should see it in some certain aspects. If there are special or armors through the game which I hope there will be. Your appearance should also change and maybe even unlock new traits or a advanced job class. Again if you want to play a Paladin and stay true to it. Do not wear this "evil" Armor.

I don't think people want to play dress-up. I do think people like to be able to give their characters a "certain look" when they create them to greater or lesser degrees. That was one of the huge problems DA2 had and a reason why so many people complained. So if you want to do that go and play DA2. As I recall, one of the problems in DA2 was precisely the opposite. The customization, especially for companions, was minimal. Not really. Yes there was no customization because for the sake of this argument. They did not want to lose the special look they had so they had no armor at all and so the look only changed through the story or better these time skips.

People keep saying this, have you ever TRIED it? Go ahead, play through an rpg with the starting armor/low level items, never upgrade it, see how far you get. It's not an option "not to wear it" except within a few small levels. Like it or not armor is something you have to upgrade (Within reason) in rpgs, you can't just "not wear" armor you don't like if it's a lot better, especially if you are playing on the harder difficulty. How is it taking the roleplaying out? To me it seems to be doing the opposite. Your paladin for example. Instead of being able to upgrade his "paladin" armor which fits his character you instead are FORCED to wear the "black/evil" looking armor or to have to be extremely underpowered and constantly dying to higher diffculty/level enemies that drop you fast because your armor is underleveled for that point in the game. MEanwhile if you had this ability, you could "keep" the look of your paladin and not be forced to wear items that is out of character for him, BUT you wouldn't be "underpowered" or penalized for doing so. Is there any game where you had to wear "evil armour" to succeed? Are Paladins really suppose to care about their looks that much? If evil armour less evil if you paint it white? Why do you even care what your character looks like? Paladins probably won't be included in the game. This could make an interesting quest or choice. Either wear it and abandon all your principles to fight the evil with evil or stay strong and chose the harder route to fight against the evil XD Which even could unlock a total new class like darkknight or so.

If you want to be a paladin do not wear it. it is as easy as that. That is also a way to roleplay. If you do not want the very evil looking and evil armor than do not use it. Buy or find a more powerful "paladin like Armor" If you just want to wear it because it has better stats and it makes it easier than you are not true to your character anyways.

It's not a lot of options we are asking for, but a simple UI toggle element or some form to take an already existing model and use it in place of another model. But this is entirely pointless. Armours have certain look to allow player to know which armour is everyone wearing. It would make as much point as making a tank look like a Jeep because Jeeps are pretty. You can't use MMO argument since it makes sense in MMO because other people look at you and you want them to praise your sense of aesthetic. Nobody look at your character when you are playing single-player RPG besides your girlfriend/siblings and they shouldn't be too picky. Maybe you missed it earlier in the thread but it applies to things of the same type only. So you could only change the "look" of a piece of plate armor with another piece of plate armor, or a greatsword with another greatsword, you wouldn't be able to change the type of item, IE changing cloth to a plat earmor look or a dagger into an axe. That would create problems animation wise and other things. This still makes no sense for RPG purposes. If you really want that for RPG purposes than do not change your Armor. Take the malus. Armor does not get stronger only becasue you leveled up. If you want to keep your current armor than live with it.

Good or evil?
Darji replied to Klaleara's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is not a "new" Bioware RPG people. So no of course not there should be no slider of some sort. But there should be choices for example joining a assassin or necromatic fraction for example which could open new advanced job classes like a necromant or a assassin. However that means no slider for good and evil or colors for the answers. -
That's exactly it. But now this game has a much smaller budget and Multiplayer will cost money which could be invested in the SP,.

Can we drop the Political Correctness argument? I don't want different people groups thrown in just to fill up some PC meter, and I'm pretty sure that nobody else does either. What I think we need to actually discuss in these threads isn't whether or not LGBT/whatever should be included in the game, but rather how they should be included in the game. Ultimately it will be up to Obsidian if they include these themes or not. So all this pointless bickering and argument is not doing any good. I want Obsidian, as the developer of the game, to tell the story that they want to. I also want it to be a good story, so if they do decide to include transgender characters, they should have an idea of what pitfalls to avoid. That's what we should be discussing. That's what could actually help the developers. So you want a good story for your transgender character? Exactly this stuff costs much money. to integrate the race truly in the story or the world itself. The question should not even exist in the first place. You can not satisfy everyone, every fetish, every sexual orientation. And that is why these threads are total pointless. Why not rather talk about stuff that is important to make it a good game not that you feel is important for you.
