  1. Not only that but they also have started a series about the stuff they have shown at E3. Even Bioware does this now. *hint at Obsidian to release the E3 demo footage*^^ None or less this is Part one and contains 16 minutes of gameplay with commentary. And man does this look promising^^ https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WdXvFEEBZeo&feature=youtu.be
  2. No I think it is the worth to mouth praise this game gets around gaming and RPG forums. Also do not forget all the footage and professional streamer streaming and loving this game as well. This game is the perfect example why I say that normal journalist sites are dead and will do nothing for Pillars of eternity. It is all about YouTube and twitch and the possibility to make this content early available to the people. Well, D:OS already got as well 9/10 from Eurogamer: http://www.eurogamer.net/articles/2014-07-09-divinity-original-sin-review 9/10 from GameInformer: http://www.gameinformer.com/games/divinity_original_sin/b/pc/archive/2014/07/08/a-truly-divine-rpg.aspx So the game seems to be critically acclaimed all over the board, by both "major" gaming media, smaller sites, gamers (just look at Steam user reviews or metacritic) and youtubers... Yes it is and rightfully so. But they were not important to the success and Divinity being on Top 1 place on steam since release. Reviewers got the game on the same day people could buy it so it took quite a bit of time till the first reviews were written. As for Resurrect: It is a level 16 Witchcraft spell you can get later on. Also since "shopkeeper" always get new content they also get a restock of resurrect scrolls. Also here is the crafting guide: http://divinity.wikia.com/wiki/Crafting But the most useful one later on is to combine Nails with any kind of boots so you do not slip on Ice anymore^^

  4. After playing this game for now over 40 Hours I am kind of sad that Eternity will not have turn based combat. Man this game is just fantastic. The writing, the story and especially the combat and tactical possibilities are just insane. Even if you fight much higher level guys with the right strategy everything is possible. I am really glad that this games gets more and more attention with each passing day. RPG player just adore this game and so do I. This is the reason why I will back more kickstarter games in the future. And if its from Larian I will do so with no hesitation^^
  5. No... in a couple of months we may have a beta. Did you miss the late December release date announcement? 2-3 month before release can not be called beta anymore. It is like what EA does with stuff like Battlefield. It is a public Demo nothing else. Define "beta" for us, Darji. Beta is something they work constantly on. They polish things change things in terms of interface, dialogues and so on. Beta is something you should constantly feedback about balance and through their changes. That will normally take many month if they do it for real. Wasteland 2 for example had a Beta, Divinity had a Alpha and Beta and there was a constantly change in these ones. If you give people the beta 2-3 month before release that means 1-2 month before everything should be finished than you will not get the needed feedback. As they said before. They are already in a Beta status in their studios. And this is the moment Beta testers or backers in this case should be involved. A EA beta or Demo is something you only do balancing stuff through data they collect from players. Beta is state where software is before it is after alpha state and before release candidate state. But there is no definite definitions for those states, but they are defined by developers themselves so that they themselves know that how ready software is and what kind work it still needs. Software is usually considered to be in beta state when it has all features and content that release version needs are done at least such level that testing and polishing of whole product can start, but this isn't always the case, as such definition don't always work with development process that developing team uses. So beta is meaningless term if you don't know definition for it that developers of software in question use for it. And from previous update you can see that Obsidian uses alpha and beta states to determine how ready each of their teams are addition to overall state of game. And they use beta to define state where all content and features are done, but not necessary on such level that game is actually playable from start to finish, let alone that it is enjoyable to play or that it ready enough to give for beta testers to play in their opinion. Softwares especially games can be months in beta state without actually being in state where they are actually usable on level that even resembles final product, which is state that most non-developer beta access backers probably excepts to get their hands on. 3 things: 1. Alpha is a status when the whole game is playable but not all features are integrated. That is the actual definition you also hear from other kickstarter Campaigns. AAA-developers like Guerilla Games for example also define it like that when they are talking about an alpha build. 2. Beta is a status in which most features are already integrated into the game and most of the polishing is beginning. As Obsidian said They are already in Beta so at this point people who backed the amount should get involved. They were promised a Beta not some publicity beta or demo shortly before the release. 3. Being Beta does not mean you will get the whole game at all in the first place. You get a small part of it. Most likely the starting Area like in divinity's case the first City and near locations. Which is like 1/4 or even less of the full game. Through this potion however people can give a ton of feedback on the starting stuff like how skills work if they are useful overpowered etc. And through these information the actual dev team can continue to polish and finish the rest of the game. It is about usability, inventory skill system, level up system, interaction in the world. Atmosphere consistency of the world and so on. If you do all this with let us say 2-3 month before release there is not much possibilities to change things even if people not liking some parts etc. All these RPG kickstarter campaigns have gotten a ton of feedback through these betas and it only changed so much because i was a long process and not shortly before the actual game is being released. Note this is all under the assumption that the Winter release still stands. If not they are "lying" or better do not tell us this about this as well.
  6. No... in a couple of months we may have a beta. Did you miss the late December release date announcement? 2-3 month before release can not be called beta anymore. It is like what EA does with stuff like Battlefield. It is a public Demo nothing else. But again that fits with their policy not to show anything at all.... Back in the days game companies made games that didnt need to be fixed by average joe "beta" testers. PoE is a story driven SP game and they know what they are doing. A "fully developed" demo is perfectly fine. That is not what backers were promised and that is my gripe here.
  7. guessing you don't work in software They said so themselves that they are NOW in Beta. So do not come with that kind of stuff. And yeah I will stop now so people do not get upset about the "great" written update you guys get every 2 weeks which means nothing at all. I will play their game when its finished and then move on but I will not back anything else from Obsidian anymore because in my opinion They do not understand the meaning of a kickstarter project at all.

  10. Really sad to see how you held this material so secretive. I see more game play material from AAA developers these days. And with Indies and other kickstarters it is on a whole different level.... The excuses however are really bad. Not even Bioware or EA would pull this sort of reasoning. Either you guys have no confidence in your product or in people who backed this whole game...... Maybe you guys should take notes from other kickstarter projects. Because right now you guys are far far behind the times in terms of publicity and marketing.
  11. We see that all the time and previews also mentioned this but this is not a game that is wanted by a graphical crowd. This is a game for old school players who give mostly a **** about that kind of stuff. This game is never get to the casual crowd and it is never intended to be according to the pitch. Some indy games have not even something like animations and people love it. What people would care about such a demo. Writing, dialogue choices, maybe characters, music (if it is already implemented) skills, tactical possibilities, atmosphere and so on. Animations are most likely the least thing these people will be upset about. If this is really the reason. I have to think that they are not confident in their game at all. Again this is not a game that will decide the future of Obsidian this is not an AAA big budget game. And people know that. No one will kill this game. Larian Studios did that from the beginning and animations were the last concern people had.
  12. I guess you can see what my gripe with this answer is. Especially when you read the previews talking about the starting area and I am pretty sure they mentioned some encounter in a FOREST as well. In these previews I do not get what was in there that they could not show but other people could talk about it. And polish is also a very bad excuse with Kickstarter games since A we have seen a small teaser and B there are kickstarter games like the "megaman" one which has shown absolutely very very very early gameplay material and no one who was invested in it and understood the meaning of early complained about it. I the last month or so I even have seen Unreal Tournament footage which was in development for like a week. And people were even excited about that. Because some developer have understood that it is great to share instead to hide. @ Sensuki They polished the E3 demo but could not show it because of spoilers. They even mentioned it in their answer..... And In the end people have seen the begining of the game and some forest. And Just like kojima polished the E3 demo and showed it to their fans.
  13. It was one of the reasons written in this thread by obsidian: "Since this has grown into a contentious point, I wanted to address it. We will not be showing a video of the demo. The footage has quite a few spoilers in it and it isn't ready to show to the backers yet. We want to show you guys something much more polished and we aim to do that sometime between now and our backer beta. Just so you guys are aware, it will likely be closer to the backer beta. To do that means we have to focus a large amount of polish on a very specific area we want to show. This ends up hurting other areas in the game because they will tend to get less polish overall. We did have to do this for the E3 demo, but because we were showing off a few key areas, it is work we had to do anyways. Since we will show you something off of the critical path, it means we need to be much more careful over what get shown." http://forums.obsidian.net/topic/66310-update-80-state-of-the-project-from-alpha-to-beta/?p=1457977
  14. Incident? What incident? Did Sawyer get drunk and punch a reporter? Oh, you mean that thing where Obsidian showed PoE to a bunch of people and a small subset of backers have, for some reason, taken it as a personal insult. The next update is almost certainly final class info. Best prepare yourself to not see moving pictures for awhile. It was much to-do about practically nothing. Somebody got their knickers in a knot, apparently. The press reviews of that so-called incident did include some spoilers, and not really all that much new content although there were a couple of area views I hadn't seen before. Nothing i couldn't have lived without. than that is leaving the question of why we did not get to see the demo as well. Even Kojima actually released the whole behind the doors E3 demo to fans after E3. Because he knows the importance of video material compared to just plain text and some screens. And this game is like an year or maybe even more away from release. This 'question' has already been addressed. You know that. Yes but I think it is a pretty silly and weak argument for that. We are like 6 months away from release if its not getting delayed. And there is no real footage at all except the 1+ year old teaser and even that one was really apriciated by fans. So why will this be different? They said they do not want to spoiler stuff but the thing the press has seen was like the first minutes of the game nothing else. And even if. Just put a spoiler warning before it and done. It also should be clear that if its polished enough for the press which also complained about animations it should be fine for backers who have seen a ton of alpha footage and demos from other games they have backed. And I think they really need to address this. Just responding does not mean everything is fine and dandy. But people also can ask ore questions if they are not satisfied with an answer

  16. I am pretty sure someone from Obsidian mentioned in this thread that they will address all this at least. I only wonder how they will address this.
  17. interesting. I wonder how they will address this E3 incident. I really hope they will show us some stuff tomorrow because of it. I mean if this is still on schedule it is less than 6 months away with no real footage shown at all.
  18. I am soo glad turn based is coming back. Much more tactical options and strategies^^
  19. Major updates have been breaking saves more often than not during the beta. I definitely wouldn't count on any beta saves being usable in the release version. thx. That is too bad. Guess I still have to wait til august then. I really hate to replay games over and over again.^^
  20. . That's extremely cool! I'd love dialogues to change depending on how rational or passionate my character behaves throughout the game. It would be so awesome if suddenly an npc tells me "I heard what people say about you... that you're always that cold analyst an all ... I want you to to give me some logical advice on that matter, I just think I'm way too involved in this to think clear anymore." You'll be pleased to know that Josh has said that this is exactly what they intend to do. Apparently different characters are even going to have different reactions to the same dominant disposition. See here for more: http://pillarsofeternity.gamepedia.com/Disposition This could be great as long it is not like in other games when suddenly everyone knows what you did. Even when you come into a whole new town in which no one heard of you before
  21. Does anyone know if the save games carry over for the final Version? I really want to play but if my saves are worthless it is kind of pointless to me.
  22. Guys do not do this in your first play through . Saving before each dialogue etc kills the entire purpose of an RPG game. You should live with your choices and consequences and not pick until you found the best answer...
  23. Wait what? Do i now really need to search for quotes people defending this because of spoilers and how they can not show these polished areas?^^ And I mean not the developer but the defender of this in my opinion stupid move.
  24. Oh yeah the journalists who are criticizing this? Wasn't this the reason Obsidian did not want to show this to us? Or was it because of the first 20 minutes into the game spoiler and their NDA? Anyway great move none or less^^
  25. Reading these previews is great. Journalists do not get that this game is not finished . Be it animations or the interface or other stuff . Why again was this only for the press? Oh yeah I forgot they know and understand it is not finished yet..... And the reception is also great. So many comments from people. The neogaf thread is on fire, even in here it is like rush hour. Oh wait it is not... I wonder if this were any different with you know actual footage and the E3 Demo like Kojima today did with MGSV man thse AAA developer really know how to get a crowd unlike the smaller kickstarter ones....
