  1. No, I didn't literally tell you what you do in games. But nice try. And the fact remains with your posts. You are okay with sexualised female NPCs in video games as well as those NPCs being objectified. Wait. There is nothing wrong with sexualizing characters or objectification in general. It becomes only bad if it used in a dumb way. For example. In a highly sexualized World like Metal Gear Solid, a Quiet in a skimpy outfit is totally fine and there is nothing wrong with it since she fits perfectly into the world Kojima created. Using skimpy Bikini models in a game like COD for MP or SP would make absolutely no sense and is a bad example how you should not do it. You really can not generalizing sexualizing and objectification. Another example would be Anime. Let us take Fairy tail for example which has tons of fan service for male and female characters. But the women and men have so much diversity in their personality that it actually feels really great. And Fairy tail despite a lot of sexualisation and objectification of their characters is one of the most favorable series for men and women in Japan. It is always in their Top5 list of Animes. Stop making the error Anita Sakeesian does because she things sexualisation and any form of objectification = bad and misogynistic. She even called Witcher 2 out for that a few days ago which by the way is just ridiculous.
  2. Not that people don't sometimes conduct very informative and quality interviews, but, I gotta say... oftentimes, I'd just rather have seen gameplay footage. You can tell a lot from gameplay footage that you quite often don't learn via interviews. That is for sure. That is why I was so upset about Obsidian's decision not to show anything at E3 to us. But it seems like they actually gave in and we will gameplay today XD
  3. If romances were in all rpgs people like Stun would be arguing that romances need to go away. I also suspect that crpgs never wouldn't be popular in the west. Sacrificing core content for romance back in the 1980's would have been a disaster. Jrpgs would dominate the market. Compared to Western RPGs. JRPGs dominated the market back in the 90. And even today RPGs with romance or a love story also sell really well. So why not try to tell a more mature love story or offer a way more mature romance option. than these games?
  4. Whether or not Obsidian would make a good romance is unknown, but there is reason to think they may screw it up. There is no reason that a romance becomes shallow just because it isn't attached to the main plot. I've seen shallow romances that were attached to the main plot, and I've seen good romances that weren't. Also, please clarify something for me: When you say integrate the romance into the story are you suggesting it be a mandatory or a relevant element of the plot? That would be a complete betrayal of the IE games. Romance in the IE games are strictly a feature; putting them in as a core element would kill role-playing. Sacrificing mechanics in favor of romance is just silly. Whether or not you care about them you will be dealing with the game mechanics! Anti-mancers will not be dealing with romances even if they are implemented well; unless they are mandatory, and that ruins the game completely so that issue is moot. You think that just because the story isn't about romance its a boring 0815? Sounds like you want a jrpg; not an IE style game. Even if Obsidian decided to side with you; poe's engine is a poor choice for a jrpg. Obsidian could create a decent jrpg AT BEST. I love me a good jrpg, but they come out all the time. An IE style game; it's been a while, and I'm tired of waiting. The story in poe will likely be much more engaging than any story about romance could ever be for role-playing fans. Integrate romance options that can be influence the mainplot yes. A very simple example which should not be represent the quality of the romance. If you romance someone and something bad happens during story events it could be an influence a characters death for example. Or giving the choice of choosing love and sacrifice something important or do not chose love and gain something different. stuff like that which also influence the overall story. Romance and love is a very important part of our life and it influences us on so many levels. Therefore a world or story over a long amount of time without these things looks ridiculous and totally unrealistic and atmosphere braking in my opinion
  5. Sexualisation has nothing to do with sexism. A lot of people misunderstand this. Also there are pro sex and anti sex feminist. If you have something against sexualisation you are a anti sex feminist and believe sex should not even exist^^
  6. Np, but you guys really should check out giant Bomb and its video content. For me it is the number 1 source for "journalistic" video content because it does not feel faked or is in any form scripted except maybe the EX quicklooks which are usually accompanied by a developer like in this case. It is maybe not informative but really entertaining and you can get a glimpse of the games and its gameplay as well. Their podcast (Bombcast) is also really entertaining even through most of them are pretty long but totally worth listening to.
  7. All true. Doesn't change anything though. What the pro-mancers want Obsidian to sacrifice in favor of romance cannot be expected to be found in a mod at all. You tell me which you find more reasonable: A) Add romances: Core content and mechanics are sacrificed so romances can be added. The romances might not even be good, and if they aren't they can really hurt the game. Obsidian has little experience making romances. Many Obsidian fans outright dislike the presence of romances; not surprising since Obsidian isn't known for romances. Poe becomes more like a run of the mill Bioware game; which there are plenty of, and will be many more of. Very little (If any) of the content sacrificed can be added in via mod. B) Don't add romances: More/better core mechanics. No chance of hurting the game with bad romances. Pro-mancers still get romances a year or so later via mods. Yes, the good ones require a bit of work to get, but they will be available. Not to mention a decent share of pro-mancers don't have high standards and they will find a "good" romance mod quickly. Obsidian stands out as alternative to Bioware; giving the rpg market with more variety. Everyone benefits from better mechanics; only some of us benefit from romances. I think this is not a fair judgement at all because you automatically dismiss romance by Obsidian which they not really tried until now in a serious fashion that it will be bad. Again to make romance meaningful and great you have to integrate this into the story. If you only add it as a feature it becomes shallow. Since someone actually posted a FFVIII gif i take FF as an example. FFVIII and FFX had maybe totally cheesy and corny romance but they integrated this in their story and that was the reason why this was so good. " cheesy" It was perfect for the Japanese teeny audience. Now imagine someone would try an actual more mature or serious romance plot in an western RPG. From all these studios out there. Except maybe Project Red I would give Obsidian the edge in created something actually good and not pointless. Maybe Naughty Dog too but sadly they do not have any experience in Romance^^ As for the mechanics. I rather sacrifice mechanics than having a boring 0815 story with or without romance options. For me the story is the main reason I play games today.^^
  8. Romance wasn't that meaningful in BG2. Not that I didn't enjoy some of them. Romance is not Obsidian's strength, and as I and others have stated; Obsidian has better things to do. We can add romances in later through mods, so there is no need for Obsidian to make them. Areas and mechanics however, will be VERY difficult to mod into the game. This is why we should make the romances and Obsidian should make the core game. Only Obsidian can make the sundae; anyone can add the cherry on top. For me the biggest strength of Obsidian is writing. I really do not care much about mechanics. Especially if its not turn based but I do care about the writing and while people could add romance via mods I would have loved to see Obsidian doing it because of the higher quality. As for Baldurs Gate: It has been a long time since I played it but as far as I remember there was a sense pf progression through the story which is not what happens in let us say DA and ME at all. It is just some kind of minigame nothing else. Obsidian is good at writing worlds and plots, but not romance. They've tried it and the results were... underwhelming. Bioware is better at it than Obsidian; at least when Bioware isn't being juvenile. You may not care about the mechanics, but you'll still need to deal with them. If the mechanics are bad; the game will be bad. Mods can handle the romance angle, but not areas and core mechanics. Even if we got Obsidian to do the romances; they wouldn't be that great. The last thing a developer should do is abandon their strengths in favor of their weaknesses. Especially when many people don't even want romances in the game at all, even if they were cost free. Mods allow players who like romance to get what they want in the game, but don't piss off the anti-mancers; who are quite numerous within Obsidian's fanbase. Obsidian should be Obsidian; not Bioware jr. Bioware's romance is straight out insulting. If you think this is a good standard to do than I do not know anymore. Bioware is not the Bioware they were when Baldurs Gate was made. A ton have changed in this company. I would say even JRPgs which are mostly aimed at teenagers have better romance plots than Bioware and that by far. I would even go much farther and say that even low budget Hentai dating sim RPGs have better romance plots and options than Bioware had after Baldurs Gate. Also how do you know that obsidian is bad at romance or better writing romance? Again I am not saying they should do it as a side object because than it is just meaningless to begin with. But rather bring in into the story. Let it progress through the story and not through grinding your conversation options etc. As for the fanbase does not want it. I think you are wrong. Again they do not want Bioware romance. They do not want to grind through conversations to get their little sex scene. That is not what romance should be in games in the first place.

  10. Romance makes the interaction with your group more intimate and intense. However Romance should not be handled like Bioware it currently does with Dragon Age or Mass Effect but rather have effects on the story and also evolve during the story. In DA or ME you just play a give gift game and talk to them and in like 30 minutes you fully have maxed out your romance tree. Make Romance meaningful like they actually did in Baldurs Gate for example. The Witcher 2 also had a more DA similar system but they executed the scenes and interactions much more mature. Also you actually felt some consequences as well.
  11. If you look at the right side there is a coming up window. In this one you can see the date and time for the quicklook EX. On Thursday it should appear on the top window or the news section.
  12. Oh I am sorry. I thought gamers knew Giantbomb^^ http://www.giantbomb.com/
  13. I was just looking the newest Quicklook on Giantbomb and then I saw that they will release a Quicklook of Pillars of Eternity. Which means thy will show gameplay. for me it is scheduled for 3 in the afternoon but I live in Germany. If you want the exact time just visit Giantbomb and look at their schedule http://www.giantbomb.com/ Hope this is not old news. If so. Please excuse me...
  14. To figure stuff out is part of the fun. Learn and improve. And no, mages are not far superior (it only seems that way at the very beginning of the game). A well balanced party is far superior to anything else. In late game melees and archers are VERY important. Yeah. Right now am playing with a friend and talents like Leech for a tank or meele are really overpowered. And when hit he actually gets more healed than actually hit. It is kind of crazy right now. In the beginning my mages were far superior but the lack of good Mage talents is balancing the thing quite nicely.
  15. Yes of course that was the main quest. And I tried to find her but ending up in Hunters Edge fighting Level 16 enemies with level 11^^
  16. Yes. Also of course you can get lost. I was totally lost so I went with level 11 to hunters Edge and had a hart time there. After Silvreglen I did not know where to go so I went exploring XD
  17. I saw this on Steam on special and I'm thinking about buying it as well ? Elder scrolls Online is pretty nice. Never understood why it got such bad reputation. It is exactly like a SP Elder scrolls games in terms of quests except there is also MP and the world is just really really huge. Is that a bad joke? TESO is NOTHING like a SP Elder Scrolls. Maybe you don't give a **** about immersion in game but I do. Do you really want to argue that running throuh a world alone is the same as running through a world with thousands of others which is the probably the most unimmersive thing ever? I don't even talk about respawning enemies (even bosses) and the most stupid quest design somebody could think of. TESO for MP is mediocre. TESO for SP is just crap. This whole thread makes me sad. Especially that it's driven by someone who wallows in his own bigotted and arrogant view on games. Never feed the troll, guys. Have you played it? Because the quest design is exactly like a SP Skyrim. The quests are long have a lot of story are not only kill that or that thing etc. As for immersion. The greatest thing about Elderscrolls is that even you play on the same server the world you are in is different. You are freeing cities, making decisions and all this forms your overall world and only your world. Loot is the same the crafting system is great as well. And on top of that you have a fun PVP mode. It maybe not worth paying monthly for but if you play Elder scrolls as a SP alone and you like Skyrim you will have fun with Elder scrolls. Yes, I have played it during the beta. Quest structure already sucked hard in Skyrim but at least it was kind of immersive. In TESO quests are just uninspired, boring and tedious. And no, there is ZERO immersion in TESO. Don't even argue about that because MMOs in general don't offer any immersion at all. If you really think there is any immersion in TESO, sorry, but then you don't even know what this word means... And I liked Skyrim for what it is. At the same time I really hate TESO for what it is. it offers zero enjoyment for somebody who wants to role-play in a game in SP. One last thing. The beta was nothing like the actual game. I played both since I got access but what I played at launch was totally different in terms of atmosphere and immersion. The Beta I would agree with you. The Full game however not. The Launch game is a HUGE SP game with online components.

  20. Puzzles like this are a part of every good or great D&D campaign. While I enjoy puzzles in pnp, they don't always translate well to a crpg. I did like the puzzles in BG2 though. Pretty much every puzzle in IWD2 I didn't like. That is for sure they have to be good. And I think the ones in Divinity are good because you actually need to think, talk to people, or animals to get hints and even then sometimes they do not tell you the straight solution for it. Of course it will be more difficult for new players who do not have much experience with old school design. However this was made with the pure intent to satisfy these hardcore old school player. And I think they succeeded even with the puzzles. And if you really have trouble with one puzzle or generally do not like puzzles you either kill everything to solve the quest or today with the help of the internet you get the solution in like 30 seconds.
  21. Puzzles like this are a part of every good or great D&D campaign.
  22. I was in hunters Edge with level 11 and was fighting level 16 enemies. and shortly after I fought a giant level 6 spider and almost one shoted it. I really love no level scaling games and it is a great way to restrict the gamepath for the sake of story for a while. Also they only tell you the level if your perception is high enough. I fought a lot of Level ??? guys for a while. The moment you hit them however you normally see their level.
  23. The 160k was with backers and early access. And this is all their money not some publishers worth. Big difference. On a different note: Someone already made a 4 player co op mod. You can not create more characters right now but at least you can now play 4player co op which is great^^
  24. ..It's thanks to not relying on "big" review sites the game has sold anything at all. Yes they catered to the core people but now the casual stream is getting something too. That is what i also criticize with Obsidian and POE. They only cater to the big sites or journalists instead the public. And this thinking is outdated in this industry.
  25. These lists are totally misleading. If you take a look at the weekly UK charts for example the Top 1 game sells like 10-20 k units. Without these actual numbers it is kind of pointless. However the really positive thing here is that this game does not sell less each week bu through the good reputation it is selling more. And Reviews on big sites like IGN are still coming in.
