  1. I'd watch it. Especially if the showrunner is someone really talented.
  2. "I had a total of 5 roleplaying choices over the course of 2 hours of playing." That is actually a lot. Fallout had around 50 or so quests? Divide that by the 30-40 hours it takes to complete it. Anyways, IMO, JE is a well-crafted rpg with challenging real time combat. I'm sure that there will be more than a few veteran crpg fans who may not appreciate Bioware streamlining the game for more broad market appeal. It's a tradeoff, but I certainly won't be surprised if some of the more open-minded fans give it a shot and would in turn actually grow to like it.
  3. No Master Uthar or Yuthura Ban options? Triple cross anyone? Quadruple cross?
  4. Since I don't want to type up a mini-review of my own, I'll just mostly agree with Volourn. The combat isn't too difficult, but it is far from being easy. I'm getting the impression that this is a really well-balanced and polished game from Bioware. Looking at the back of the manual, it looked liked up to 200 Biowarians alone literally were involved with the project.
  5. Alan Moore is a comic book GOD! I read the first one. Now I have to read the second one.
  6. "Well, you said their reviews were the most trustworthy... whistling.gif" When (or where) did I write or imply that? I may have written that gamespot's review of JE was the most useful for me. But that's all I can think of. Sheesh, you and your absolutes.
  7. "That explains why KOTOR was rated 9.1 (and 8.8 for xobox) while NWN was rated 9.2 by your precious GS good. LOL" What do gamespot's ratings for those two games have anything to do with my opinion of them? For the record, Gamespot is not precious to me. Not anymore so than a Roger Ebert or Elvis Mitchell. Useful tools that I use to gauge whether a purchase would be warranted or not. Tools which I may occasionally disagree with.
  8. NWN is overrated. Kotor rocks. Thanks for the summary.
  9. "Such is the price for competing with your own stellar legacy, but even taken purely on the merits of what's offered here, Jade Empire remains a linear, abbreviated experience that, while ambitious and gorgeous to behold, is not Bioware's finest hour." ---from 1up It's kinda hard when Bio is going up against the legacy of the BG series or even KOTOR. Meh. I'm exhausted from reading reviews, so I just read the intro and concluding paragraphs.
  10. Heh. You know what? I can't believe I'm carrying this little debate over multiple forums... Regardless, ain't like I got a vested interest in gamespot anyhow. For what its worth, gamespot's review, of the big three, seems to be the one that brought out the fanboy in me for JE. That's my story and I'm sticking to it. Roofles!
  11. I don't see how some of you see Gamespot's review as being overtly negative. He does state that he isn't too fond of the combat system. He does state that the game is too short. He does imply that this is a dumbed-down rpg. BUT... He loves the story. He loves the graphics and attention to detail. He loves the sound and voice acting. He loves the replayability. And he recommends this game for its targeted audience. Namely, US. I don't see Greg K. as being contradictory or negative at all. I see it as being fair, critical, and positive.
  12. Wrong. Unlike you, he doesn't think in absolutes. He writes what's bad about it, but then also praises what's good about it too.
  13. And last I checked, TSL is outselling RC on the PC.
  14. Where can I find these and should they all be installed together? Much appreciated! Cheers, FD <{POST_SNAPBACK}> http://modlist.pocketplane.net/index.php?ax=list&cat_id=97
  15. The Fallouts and Vampire have no goblins and elves. But those games as previously listed above are considered the modern classics of the rpg genre. It just so happens that many of them contain goblins and elves. I think it's worth a shot if you can get past the green skin and pointy ears.
  16. You know...I was thinking I forgot something from that list. NWN. heh.
  17. Here's the list: Start out with Baldur's Gate and Baldur's Gate II. Expansion packs for both are optional, but recommended. Then go try Fallout and Fallout 2. Planescape Torment. Icewind Dale + Icewind Dale 2. Those games seem to be the general (not absolute) consensus around these here parts. Other games of note: Arcanum, Temple of Elemental Evil, and Vampire the Masquerade: Bloodlines. *Addendum: Jade Empire is coming out next week for the xbox.
  18. No high school rpg??

    FALLOUT

In response to the topic starter's question: It is Bethesda and Interplay. Bethesda has the rights to the franchise but Interplay owns the rights to FOOL =)
  20. The primary reason why I got an x-box was for Jade Empire.
  21. Heck, I'm getting Jade Empire just because of the box! Shiny, limited edition foil. *drools*
  22. I actually like his polls. Unlike many others, they're not boring and can be well thought out...on occassion. But he still needs to be fed to the mighty Sarlacc.
  23. Oh yeah, you're real classy Kaftan. First you belittle her work. Now you belittle her name? So you've never heard of the practice of cultural diffusion? Where ideas, names, traits, etc., are spread from one society to another? It happens all over the world, especially in areas where people of differing backgrounds live together. Such as Malaysia.
  24. Okay. That makes sense. For what its worth, John Morgan did say that next game they're working on isn't Bio-related. Hopefully they already have a publisher lined up. Wouldn't want what happened to Troika happen here.
