the Maztica books really got me interested in the Aztecs
-
Its already got some controversy casting the whitest black girl ever as Shana.
-
As Thing, whatever. The mocap guy doesn't need to look like the character, but he's an awful choice for Ben Grimm. Ben was a huge dude before he got turned to rock. Its like casting Brock Lesnar as the Joker because he looks good in a purple suit.
-
I wish DC would stop trying so hard to ignore what makes the rival MCU so fun and interesting and memorable. that's worse than Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm

This is probably the best one I've read yet. Its actually fair.

"Pure Evil " I don't know, maybe ask Gamespot how the rage impacted them when they haven't been relevant for years and why Jeff Gerstwinn's Wikipedia page is the second hit when you google them. The difference here is that back then, it was a dog eat dog world and the other publications ate them alive just as much as the gamers did. Now the damn place has cliquefied and there's just a lot of handholding and covering for your friends. I've seen this argument made before but it just doesn't hold water. Significantly larger amount of gamers raged out far, far worse than this over a reviewer standing in front of some mountain dew and doritos product placement. But nobody attacked all gamers as being responsible for those ridiculous fringe morons and nobody claimed credibility due to victimhood over it.Sorry TN but that's another fallacy about GG and its purpose and I know we don't agree on this one but it is important I raise this again All "gamers " weren't attacked, only gamers who didn't believe in transformation, I can guarantee you if you ask all the people on these forums if they felt the various articles written were about every single gamer there will be several people who will disagree with you and say "no I didn't think that applied to me" So its your own interpretation of the various events to say "all gamers were insulted and verbally attacked " Looking back now I do think it was silly to use the word " gamers" because of all the consternation it caused but it still doesn't change the fact it was taken out of context and used by some as an excuse to push a certain agenda and gain support for that agenda You can't say "Black people should get out of the country because of all the rape and murder and stealing they do" then when people get outraged say "oh, we didn't mean ALL black people, just the few that do that, I don't see how you could have musunderstood" its stupid. While not as bad, the cencept with the gamer articles is the same. So let me ask you something, if this was such a direct and obvious insult why is it that people like myself and many others are not insulted? Why is that we believe this wasn't directed at us? And its not because, for example, I am so blindly committed to SJ causes that I wouldn't take offense or choose to ignore someone who was really being really rude and dismissive just because they are a feminist So for example I do find some of the utterances of radical feminists very offensive and idiotic, but why did I not find the Leigh Alexander article problematic ? My guess its something like how some dwarfs consider the term midget as like calling a black person the n word, while others self identify as midget.

People are still bringing up Zoe Quinn? It was my understanding she's a distant memory in this.

The abuse Anita gets isn't because she's a woman, its because she has unpopular views. If she was a dude making the same statements and videos with the same media coverage she would get just as much. Just like Jack Thompson did. But the media didn't care about the abuse Jack Thompson got, because he is male.

the previews for this week's SHIELD didn't have me excited, but now I am. So glad they managed to pull out of their funk from the first half of season 1. CTV in Canada got the goldmine of TV rights, they have SHIELD, Flash, Arrow, Gotham, I think they have Constantine too.
-
From what I heard the negative reaction to the pilot got them to retool the series, making it closer to the comic. Girl from the pilot is being replaced with a sorceress ex girlfriend.

Has anyone noticed that few if any "legitimate" media sites mention the Gamers are Dead articles, which IMO are what turned this from a tiny internet spat into what it is now?

An Arcanum spiritual successor would be awesome. It did so much right with its setting and non-combat stuff that its a shame the really bad combat overshadowed it.

I must say that Anita's public views are quite moderate Her views paraphrased by me "I want developer's use less tropes, especially those I see to be degrading towards women" "I want developer's to use more active female protagonists" "I want more games that don't focus so much on violence" "I think using tropes that I think to be sexist and not giving women as many active roles as men shows that our society is still leans towards patriarchy" "I want/hope that game developers start to make more games for my tastes" Her vision for what direction games as medium and art form should develop don't wholly correspond with my vision, but I don't think that her vision is anyway radical. I think that right there is the #1 thing women want more of when it comes to games. Pretty much every woman I know doesn't play games because they are violent. They like the Sims but thats about it. If they made more non-violent games, you might see some more crossover from casual games, and then you would see a lot more women interested in making games, and once you have more women making games, a lot of the stuff people like Anita complain about will just go away naturally. The problem is, how do you do an RPG without combat?

My Daughter is 6 and we play together. I'm building stuff while she plays house and screams at the top of her lungs when zombies show up. She can't play for a while because she was having nightmares of creepers and zombies, but I was thinking of starting up crrative mode with her

Gave Space Engineers a try since it was free and looked interesting. Turns out... its not interesting. Its boring, with unintuitive controls and just... bleh.

Pretty much. Story has all sorts of corporate corruption stuff in it too. Its only a season and a half and I think its on netflix, so worth checking out.

I've never seen Jericho. What's the skinny? Follows the small town of Jericho, Kansas following a nuclear terrorist attack on several american cities. Shows the town dealing with sudden loss of power, supplies, fighting for food with rival towns, etc. Later shows the political situation of the US with several independent nations fighting for dominance.

I think one of my problems was I read the comics, and the first half of season 2 was adapted from one issue of the comic, and Shane was dead before they even got to the farm in the book. Plus they completely changed character personalities so the show just gave me a bad taste.

Jericho was probably my favorite post apocalypse show. Loved the world building

I think that's the first time I've heard anyone praise season 2 of the walking dead. Season 2 made me give up on the show. Doomsday was ridiculous fun. I tend to like the more optimistic PA stuff, where **** happened, but things are getting better. Was one of the reasons I didn't like F3 as much as the rest. Its 400 years after the bombs and people are still largely making shacks out of sheet metal and no one has figured out how to make/wash clothes.

I know they had to kill her to put Laurel on the path to becoming Black Canary, but Sara was so much better than Laurel.

IX was them trying to reproduce the magic of the SNES games. They didn't fully succeed, and the ending was kind of WTF, but the result was something pretty special. X was where they first removed the world map, which resulted in a smaller feeling game. Plus the voice acting was awful. I've never played any of them for PC, I think you can get all of them digitally on the PSN for 10 bucks or less.

Kotaku, at least lately, is a weird mash of odd gaming-related stuff, like guys killing everyone in Fallout 3, or a guy in Shadoes of Mordor replacig a warchief's entire retinue with his slaves, japanese culture stuff, vaguely gaming related crossposts from around Gawker media, and ad articles for services. With the occasional gaming news post. It used to be much more gaming centric.
