The Fall of the Wall
I was reading an article the other day about how the fall of the wall was the beginning of the fall of western civilization, because we took the wrong lessons from it. We took the lesson of Capitalism Good -> Communism bad, and began deregulating everything, which lead to short term economic boom, long term economic disaster, and there is little we can do to reverse course. At the time of thwfall western economies had struck a decent balance between capitalist and socialist ideals, and that was what beat the Soviets. It wasnt Capitalism vs Communism, it was Moderation vs Extremism.

He was fair, and mostly correct. I may need to watch more of his show. I mean at the end of the day, it really isn't a big issue. If the journos win and they get to keep being corrupt and pushing an agenda, and the publishers bow to the journo's pressure and do a game with a gay trans person of colour main character, and it doesnt sell because 99% of the gaming public cant relate because the number of gay trans PoCs is such a tiny part of the market, we'll still end up getting male power fantasy games because they sell.

On whether the "magic" is there or not in CRPGs
Its not just RPGs, I felt the "magic" when I booted up Assassins Creed 2, faded a bit by Revelations, but was right back again in 3. I couldn't wait to get home from work to boot them up, and would stay up late playing. None of the games I've played since have had tha, Divinity Original Sin, Wasteland 2, etc, all good games, but I haven't come close to finishing them and am spending my gaming time mostly on EUIV now, which has already got like 250 hours out of me.

Toyota selling new cars at Ford dealerships so Ford gets 30% of Toyota's sales is the analogy I've always found illustrates why they don't want to do it. Well, if they pull them out of the ford dealership to sell them out of the abandoned warehouse in the seedy part of town. The Gamdeals reddit was all over how even at 75% discounts on Uplay, everyone waits for Steam or GMG because at least you're guaranteed to get the game you buy.

Yeah, Oliver Campbell had the source in the government that claimed that people were sending threats to themselves. Kingofpol claimed Totilo gave him the screencaps of the Nick Denton facebook posts, which turned out to be fake. Thats my understanding at least.

So what's the background to this backstabbing and conspiracy theorizing? King of /pol/ source about anti-GG side sending death threats to themselves turned out to be fake: https://medium.com/@infinitechan/nothing-is-sacred-how-trust-works-online-and-how-kingofpol-fooled-me-9032a7dc3c4c In another news Gawker loses another sponsor: http://theralphretort.com/disgraced-gawker-loses-another-sponsor/ Also, someone leaked bunch of DiGRA emails: https://pdf.yt/d/upqC5otqVDmjq74N My take on all this: Drama doesn't matter, sending emails does. "Leaders" don't matter, people do. I thought Kingofpol was who released the gawker guy stuff. Claimed his source was Totilo. The source for the sending themselves threats was someone in the FBI supposedly.

Still, its like pulling a console game out of Walmart. Yeah people can get it elsewhere, but you're still making the concious decision to snub the largest retailer. I thought Steam accounted for something like 70% of PC game sales now.

DLC for ubisoft games on steam is stupid. You buy it on Steam, write the code down on some paper, open the game, select the game option for DLC, and enter the code manually. I played through about 60% of Assassins Creed 3 before realizing none of my DLC was activated.

Would you like a blanket and some cocoa? This GG issue is very simple, if you're a shepherd and a snake is taking all your sheep what do you do to the snake? Have the snake sued for sexual harrassment. Genius!

So far liking them. I had just barely got used to the trade mechanics when they went and added like 20 new trade nodes though. I really want all the stuff Art of War unlocks, especially client states, but I can't afford it. I haven't even got Res Publica yet. Wealth of Nations I got last week because it was on GMG for 2.50 and I had credit. Sadly though, all the new provinces and tags have made the game grind to a halt. On max speed I go through a day about every 2-3 seconds, so its nearly unplayable. I had a mod all lined up to play where the Byzantines abandon Constantinople and flee to the new world, but its not compatible with the new patch and the author just announced he's not continuing development.- Journalism and sexism in the games industry

You do know where the name came from right? The creator had done a bunch of failed games and FF was his last try, if it failed he was leaving the industry, his Final Fantasy. Which turned out to be wildly successful so it didn't turn out the way he thought.- Journalism and sexism in the games industry
isn't that how season 4 of Enterprise got made? Fans raised like 4 million dollars to get it made, so the producers made season 4 all about pleasing hardcore trek fans rather than trying for broader appeal. Ended up with one of the best seasons of Trek TV ever.- What's on the idiot box... Part 3
I wonder what the results would look like if people voted for who they best felt represented them rather than the closest one they thought could win.- What's on the idiot box... Part 3
The Conservatives keep airing attack ads aimed at the leader of the Liberals up here in Canada. They have the curious effect of increasing the Liberals popular opinion. Its usually stuff like airing quotes out of context, bashing his charity work as bad judgement, or acting like his popular policies are dangerous and something only idiots would want.- New Scientific Discoveries, Part Deux
