Fortunately, the one game I do that sort of thing in lets you keep it running by opening up any sort of GUI. Kind of annoying when you meant to do that, forgot, and come back a while later only to find that nothing has been accomplished (because even the freaking screen saver makes it pause).

Gotta be honest, initially I was kind of excited, as I've really wanted some new D&D games (but I wanted turn-based 4E ones set somewhere other than the Forgotten Realms.) But with the apparent focus on multi-player, the selling of tilesets (note how some of the special editions come with extra tilesets, which doubtless will be for sale to those who didn't buy the special editions), the horribly overused, cliche land of the Mary Sue setting (the Sword Coast, but more so the Forgotten Realms in general), and 5E D&D (which threw out most of the improvements made since 2E, nuked magic even more than I would have liked, and, when I read it made me wonder if I was reading a copy of D&D For Dummies) I'm not sure I'll ever buy this. Perhaps they can do something to excite me in the future, and I'll keep an eye on it, but I don't have very high hopes.

Sequel to Ultima Underworld out on Kickstarter now!

Maybe if one of the goals was a non-terrible combat system, I'd be interested. But I hated UU's combat, and I'm not interested in funding anything that uses the same, or a similar, system. -
Given how ubiquitous cell phones are nowadays, yeah, it's not surprising. For those of us who don't have/want cell phones, though, they're nice to have as an e-reader/internet browser that doesn't require being tethered to a computer.

I'd just been wondering about this. There was a time I'd have been happy about this, but now I'm just kind of blah. It's not like there's any sort of report or the like that would have caused them to go back to making games more along the lines of the first DA.

While I appreciate both old and new graphics (honestly, the biggest hurdle for me with old games is the often terrible UIs) I feel like with all the improved graphical fidelity and what not that we've lost something in terms of non-visual information. It was not uncommon in older games to get some sort of text description of an area when entering it, which often contained information such as smells, sounds (yes, I know we have improved audio, but honestly a lot of it drifts past me as white noise), and just a general feel of the area, the air, etc. I get much more out of description of a crypt talking about the mustiness and stillness of the air, the sound of water dripping in the distance, echoing off of walls, making it impossible to tell exactly which direction it's coming from. I guess what it boils down to is that most games with modern graphics fail to make an attempt, as I see it, to engage the imagination of the player, and as such I find them much more sterile and less "immersive" than something of poor graphical quality that makes an attempt to engage my imagination.

But on a serious note if you don't vote for Republicans, and I know you won't vote for Democrats, then who would you vote for? There's a reason voter turnout in the US is so low, and not having anyone worth voting for is a contributing factor.

Journalism and sexism in the games industry

I have to admit, I'm kind of at the point where I'm hoping that the social justice people go really nuts, just because I'm looking forward to the day I can push the left-handed agenda. I'm sick of all you privileged righties keeping me down! -
Got an Ancient Legendary crafting a bow upgrade for my (non-main) demon hunter. It actually kind of sucks (it was a 30% damage upgrade from the yellow bow I was using, but a bigger combined loss in Toughness and Healing) but since I was struggling in T1 because I couldn't kill things at a reasonable rate, I'm using it. My (main) Crusader is in T2, and I could probably handle T3, slowly. I haven't played a ton (only Paragon 75 or so), and actually had never run a GR until today despite having ~150 normal rift stones (Indira, you inspired me.) I've gotten up to GR Rank 10 one at a time so far (well, I accidentally skipped 2) so I've got a decent selection of legendary gems, but getting Legendary jewelry with sockets is a pain (I've not gotten enough trash legendaries that I can reroll a whole lot of times, and I spent a lot of mats re-rolling trying to get Holy Damage on my Andariel's Visage since my Crusader is mostly lacking in damage...I never got it, though. ) I really think the leveling is too fast. Getting actual gear upgrades is so slow, and while paragon levels come reasonably quickly so far, they don't individually make much of a difference. My characters really feel stagnated, which is what caused me to stop playing initially (I only started playing again because I was looking to see when Season 2 started, and thought I would see how the patch effected my characters...still lots of useless abilities it seems like. )

Honestly, I preferred Redemption (well, the first part of it), but that's because vampires running around with guns always seems weird to me, and I pretty much hate non-cover-based shooters.

I've finally gotten around to playing Warmachine: Tactics, which, despite the pretty godawful camera (and I say this as someone who never had problems with the NWN2 camera) is a pretty fine Turn-Based Strategy game. Keep in mind that I've never played the tabletop, but I've really enjoyed it so far. My one gripe (other than the camera, which is annoying but being turn-based isn't a game-breaker) is that you can't save during the campaign as far as I can tell, which is pretty frustrating when you're a move or two from winning a 45 minute long battle, only to realize that the guy you just sacrificed was one that had to be kept alive, resulting in you having to start over from the beginning of that battle (FYI, Whitemoon Dreams, white text on a snowy background is pretty damn hard to read.)

I'm pretty sure it's a Hackers reference. Which, while I enjoyed Hackers, is a bit out of date, at the very least. -
Shadowrun: Hong Kong Kickstarter is UP!

Lucky...I was only 68. -
Honestly, the gameplay didn't look very King's Quest-ish, what with all the jumping about, probably QTE-style. Of course, I'm one of the weirdos that thinks point & click ruined adventure games.

He may have even been playing against his future team this week. Nope. He's going to go coach Michigan. Because I deserve at least one football team that doesn't suck.

As I recall she was, though I'm not sure how accurate my 14-year-old's decades old memories are in regards to the "hot senior girls" in my high school.

I knew a girl in high school (this was ~20 years ago) who wore fake glasses because they "made her look smarter." They may have made her look smarter, but didn't change the fact that she was dumb as a brick.

Am I the only one who doesn't understand the appeal of watching other people play games? I'll watch people play games I'm never going to buy but am interested in (for example, I'll never play Earthbound or any of the Persona/Shin Megami Tensei games, but I'm curious what all the fuss is about), or one that I've played part of and know I'm never going to finish. Other than that, I've only watched people play free-form sandbox stuff to see what they do/how they overcome similar problems, or to learn about a mechanic I'm unfamiliar with. People that I've watched previously who stop doing things that are new to me I generally stop watching.

There is a definite possibility of that. It's going to be entertaining to watch either way. I don't care about the Browns, I'm just in it for the entertainment value, and Johnny Football is going to bring that one way or another. Bite your tongue. Everyone cares about the Browns. They are the greatest team in the history of sports. Honestly, I'm not sure how I feel about Manziel. I wouldn't have drafted him (his off the field antics are a contributing factor, but mostly I think he was overrated...his "signature" play was a pass he should never have thrown) so I'm not too upset if he doesn't work out, but it would be nice to finally have a decent quarterback in Cleveland. It's not like the Browns are going to make the Super Bowl (or likely the playoffs, given their injuries and Hoyer's terrible play the last couple weeks), so I kind of wish they'd play him just to see if he can actually play.

Icewind Dale: Enhanced Edition Announced
Vaeliorin replied to CoM_Solaufein's topic in Computer and Console
Just out of curiosity, did they keep the special Icewind Dale bard songs? I don't recall what they all were, but there was one that was a couple points of healing/round that I really liked to have to keep my party topped up between fights. I'd miss that if it were gone (and I'd never play IWD without a bard in the party.) Yes, I know that you could pause and spam the button to heal in combat, but I never did that, I just liked having a way to get those last couple points to full health without having to waste a healing spell. -
Was a pretty good Thanksgiving. Saw my brother and his family for the first time since last Christmas, so that was nice. Burnt my forearm getting dressing out of the oven, so that kind of sucked, but it's not bad (red, but it doesn't hurt at all.) Anyway, Happy Thanksgiving to all the other Thanksgiving having people.

Hey, that inexplicable timeout call helped my Browns win the game, so I'm not going to complain.

Pepsi Taste Testing Doritos Flavored Mountain Dew
Vaeliorin replied to Keyrock's topic in Way Off-Topic
My first encounter with Mountain Dew (many, many moons ago) was as the Pepsi equivalent of Mello Yello. Oddly, I don't even know if you can get Mello Yello any longer, whereas Mountain Dew is seemingly everywhere. That said, I have no interest in all these crazy Mountain Dew flavors they keep making, but if original (Diet) Mountain Dew went away, I'd miss it. -
Just out of curiosity, is there any sort of lore explanation given as to why mages can't heal anymore, or do they just ignore it? I might be able to forgive it if there's a lore reason (like, say, all the Fade craziness is causing magic to misbehave, so it's not safe to cast healing, and basically every mage is a D&D-style wild mage now), but if it's just for gameplay reasons with no explanation, that's not really acceptable as far as I'm concerned.
