  1. Civilisation and Europa Universalis were both originally board games, and fairly well known. It's McIntosh anyway, he'll be hyperbolising same as always. I imagine things like Small World and the like as well. Anything that involves expanding an empire and controlling territory probably falls under "colonialism" as far as McIntosh is concerned.
  2. Gotta admit, if I'd funded it I'd be pretty mad that they spent that much money on voice-acting. None of those people could have come cheap.
  3. Looks like the people at Ubisoft saw how popular Ark is, and decided to ape that, just with the standard Ubisoft spin. Decidedly meh.
  4. Tremors is one of my dad's favorite movies (though he doesn't much care for the sequels.) Personally, I prefer 2 and 3 because I love the crazy gun nut character (whose name I forget...I haven't see any of them in years.)
  5. I have to say, this looks really awesome. I've kept an eye on the game for a while, but I've been kind of waiting for it to actually release to pick it up, and it definitely looks like it's headed in a good direction.
  6. Yeah, the higher tiers are tempting, but I know it would just end up being stuff I'd stick in a drawer/closet, as I simply don't have any space to display it. If there was a physical copy somewhere in there I might be more tempted, just because I like having physical copies of games I care about.
  7. Kind of stunned both $10k backer slots have been taken already. I guess it was decently advertised before the campaign started, but...wow.
  8. Definitely hoping it at least hits 1.85 million...not fussed about PvP at all, but I imagine there will be add-ons to the campaign between 1.85 and 2.5, so...go 2.5 million!
  9. This is entirely wrong. If a class I enjoy is significantly inferior to other classes, I'll still want to play it, but it will seriously harm my enjoyment of the game. Balance is important (at the very least on the bottom end, and I'd argue over the entire spectrum, but I don't feel like getting into it.) Regardless, draining weapons still drain endurance. Just picked up Oidhreacht and it still drains just like normal.
  10. I did that too. Westeros - the North Korea of fantasy land. I was a big fan. I heard nothing but bad about it, but I really enjoyed it. Looking up the endings, there really isn't any "happy" endings either. I really liked Alester until his revelation. Yeah, I don't understand why reviewers never like Cyanide and Spiders games. Must be some kind of mind control Bioware is doing on them. Or may be it's the blow and hookers. Technical issues, generally. They seem to tend to be slightly behind the times in terms of graphics as well, The Game of Thrones game, for me, was just so horribly boring at the beginning (cutscene after cutscene, seemed like 10-15 minutes of actual playtime in the first hour of the game) that I couldn't really get into it. I don't really mind lots of cutscenes, but you've got to at least get me engaged in the story first (though it's possible that people who are fans of the show/books would already be engaged.) I'll probably try it again sometime, but I really think it's got some serious design flaws (like jumping between characters far too often...a complaint I had about the books as well, so it's possibly just I writing style I don't care for.)
  11. Sorry Guard Dog, but the Browns made the Bucs look pretty bad tonight. As a Browns fan, I can't say I'm that sad. Maybe we'll actually have a decent season for the first time in a couple decades.
  12. Just out of curiosity (your posts have made me add this to my wishlist on Steam, so next time it's on sale I'll most likely buy it) is it possible to destroy competing production facilities? I assume you'd take some sort of faction hit or some sort of penalty, but was wondering if maybe it'd be worth it to blow up all the other solar plants in an area and build your own.
  13. See, I like the way they're doing it, because while my character might threaten someone with bodily harm, they wouldn't necessarily do so in a way that involves intestines or paintings. Perhaps my character is more of a leg breaker, or a "rip out you spleen and feed it to you" type. I'm fine with either way, however. On a separate note, I'm kind of curious how well this one will sell. I have a feeling that with the previous game being so successful, they might have a bunch of people who bought the first one look at the Kickstarter as a low price preorder, meaning sales when the game actually releases might suffer.
  14. The first part is essentially Simon. The second part I guess you need to match the alien letters code that flashes up with one of the strings below. It sure would have been nice if they had explained it in the game. Edit: What Orogun wrote. Not to brag but I really didn't need an explanation, it was bit of an ego boost to figure it out myself. Congratulations, you are a champion of cleverness, truly a god among mortals, we are all blessed to be able to bask in your splendor. That doesn't change the fact that this should have been explained in-game the first time it came up. The first time you spend karma a pop up box comes up explaining how points are spent. The first time you enter combat a pop up box comes up explaining turn-based combat. The fact that no pop up box comes up the first time you enter a hacking mini-game is doubly as perplexing given that not only have there been pop up boxes for everything else up to that point, but also that this is the first time in the series that this mini-game has been used. It's not a huge deal, a minuscule blemish on what has so far been an otherwise excellent game, but it seems like such a weird oversight. While I also figured it out the first time I saw it (though I'd seen someone mention remembering numbers somewhere, so that was a pretty big hint) it does definitely need a tutorial. To be honest, however, it seemed to me like just fighting the stuff was way less of a hassle than trying to do it the "right" way. Granted, I've not hacked many systems yet, but the minigame just doesn't strike me as very fun (and trying to get through without being noticed seems nigh impossible, though it's possible, even likely, that I'm just bad at stealth.)
  15. For some reason, playing Shadowrun: HK made me really want to play Temple of Elemental Evil. Got the latest Circle of 8 patch, started it up, and man...the game looks really good still. I was kind of stunned. Anyway, have a Fighter (with a Ranseur), Cleric (Longsword/Shield), Druid (Scimitar/Shield), Rogue (Dual-wield), Bard (Longbow), and Wizard (Crossbow) for my party. Hit level 3 from fetch quests, Welkwood Bog, and grinding random encounters trying to get the stupid swamp lotus (level 2 characters versus trolls doesn't work very well, btw...had to reload after getting that one.) I finally did get it (yay, first time I've ever gotten it before Amii kicked the bucket!) and now I'm ready to hit the Moathouse. I have to admit, I really like the variety of enemies that you find in the random encounters, particularly things that you wouldn't normally find. Giant Crayfish, in particular, was a pleasure to encounter. Hopefully I'll actually get somewhere near finishing it this time. Never made it past level 5 before (it was the first time I played it, and I was really frustrated with having a level 5 party with like 4 magic items between them...this was before Co8, so masterwork stuff was much harder to find, and I didn't really want to use XP on enchanting back then.)
  16. It probably would have helped if it had been advertised more. I knew they were going to have one, but I didn't know it had started. I'd have at least taken a look at it.
  17. I'm not sure I'll back this. I've only played a bit of the original, as it turns my PC into a jet engine...only game that's ever caused an overheat. I don't understand why, as I've played other games that should have been much more resource intensive. Still, I like it conceptually...may back it at a low tier.
  18. It struck me as a kind of wanna be Firefly with a female Mal. That's not a bad thing, it's a pretty decent show (it and Dark Matter are better than most of the stuff Syfy has put out lately.) It was created by the same person who created Lost Girl (which I'm annoyed they split the final season in half, and the second half isn't being shown until 2016, but that's neither here nor there.)
  19. *shrug* I somehow have 352 posts (it used to be over 400...) when I'd be surprised if I had half of that. I remember I'd posted here less than a dozen times way back when, and when I came back a couple years ago I mysteriously had exactly 400 posts.
  20. I'll pre-order games I know I want, but it's always a physical copy, which I pre-order because you'll often get it a day or two before release. I always get physical copies of games that are important to me. I'm old. Never pre-ordered a digital game (I'm pretty sure I've never bought a digital game that was less than 50% off, honestly.)
  21. I'm pretty sure hell is being forced to play Bethesda games for eternity.
  22. I really hope it is. It might have just been the video, but those rolls Faith (who...doesn't look much like Faith...) was doing seemed really disorienting to me (but then again, I tend to find 1st person games really disorienting, so maybe it's just me.) I loved the original Mirror's Edge, so I hope this is at least decent.
  23. Wow...the horrors of having to throw on a sweater... It's pretty ridiculous. If you're cold, you can always put something more on. If you're too hot, you're basically SOL. Besides, there's a reason computer labs are always kept cold (I used to have to wear my coat when in the computer lab back in college, and I'm not particularly susceptible to cold), and most offices are full of computers nowadays...
  24. HBS is seriously trying hard to pull into a tie with Obsidian as my favorite dev. First Shadowrun and now Battletech? I love those guys.
  25. ARPGs are a sub-genre of RPGs. Just because you don't like them, doesn't make it otherwise. Just because I think something is misnamed doesn't mean I dislike it. If you read the rest of that post, you'd have seen me praising Dark Souls and the combat system of Kingdoms of Amalur, both so-called ARPGs.
