Paladins and Bards
I also was a bit disappointed on no Bards and Paladins (my 2 favorite classes). But they have the base classes as expected. It is possible they do not fit the setting, but if they can, I would love to see them.

Alternatives to Vancian or Cooldowns? Other suggestions?
and I was wondering. How do you guys feel if there would be a possibility of creating your own spellbook? For example, remember how Nameless One made his own through a series of quests and dialogue, and even was commented by a mage at Sensorium how crappy his spellbook looked. How about a possibility of carrying multiple spellbooks, or grabbing enemy spellbook after his death? Maybe that's something to concider with idea of specific "suits" of prepared spells. Of course maybe I'm just on the wrong track here and stuff would be done differently. That would be grand.

[Merged] Cooldowns 2.0
That is pretty much my guess at this time. That actually, could be...... interesting. Of course Sawyer will come by and probably throw another curve-ball and throw us all off track.

Option A Level 4 Mage has Fireball 1x, Magic Missile 3x, Hold Monster 1x - PER COMBAT ENCOUNTER COOL-Down. Pros - This is very easy for developers to balance Cons -Not Tactical -Boring, all encounters feel the same -No challenge -No sense of tension Option B Level 4 Mage has Fireball 1x, Magic Missile 3x, Hold Monster 1x - PER DAY COOL-Down. Pros -Each encounter will be tactical and challanging and different -Creates a great feel of tension Cons - This is harder for developers to balance Option C Level 4 Mage has Fireball 1x PER DAY, Magic Missile 3x PER ENCOUNTER, Hold Monster 1x PER DAY Pros -mildly tactical -Possibly easier to balance Cons -Most all fights may still feel the same -No great feel of tention

Bows: Limited ammo?
I like that as well.

Just a little concern about adding stretch goals
If you understand how games are made 101, this is basically a "pitch" to the Publisher. Though thankfully this is a pitch to YOU. Each an every one of us. Do you like the old IE games and want something similar? THEN HELL YES! As this progresses, a budgetary amount is continually discussed (the KS funds pledged). Obsidian then asses the budget and adds milestones in they know they feel can reasonably deliver within that budget. Am I worried? No.

No Good or Evil? Two "Grey" Choices
Based on all their past games, I think Obsidian has done a fairly good job of the Grey area. I pretty much they will continue this with PE. And now they are no longer under the publisher leash, this only bodes very well.

Or it could just be as similar as it was in the IE games. That's why we liked it.

I think our main concern is will the new combat system remain as tactical as it was like the IE games? Having to conserve spells. Knowing when to use spells and where. As well as using specific spells on some enemies. etc... I think you have pretty much alleviated the fears of the horrible WOW type of cool-down system, will not be in PE. Are there room for improvements/complete changes with how the old IE combat system works? Hell yes. We can only hope you will work on something that is tactical and challenging to the player, and is somewhat reminiscent of the IE games. Not a carefully designed player friendly no thinking required walk-through of the game.

If they can be faced with a deterrent and a need to change tactics without the need to walk back, would that be somehow worse? I agree with what you're saying about them needing to adjust tactics and needing a reason to see they need to adjust tactics. But, and maybe I was just making an assumption here, I was under the impression that would be happening anyway. The player would be having a hard time. They should be seeing that it's a hard time given how they're using so many abilities. They may even be about to hit a wall where they can no longer progress if they don't change their tactics. If I was using THAT many resources quickly, the very first thing I would have noticed was I probably am in an area I really should not be. An/Or not using effective tactics. I would then head back to camp and re-asses on if I should continue, or decide to explore elsewhere.

I would have planned more carefully (conserving spells), to avoid such a situation. how are you planning for something you've not yet seen? Unless you're reloading a save, there's no possible way you can plan well enough unless you also carry around enough divination spells to see every encounter on the map before it happens. I never re-loaded (as in running off, go re-memorize spells stuff then return) in the IE games. I took whatever decisions I made and made due with them as I progressed through an area. THAT was the fun and challenge of the IE games.
