Please, NO GUNS!

Do you want firearms in Project Eternity?
Even if you suck for not wanting guns, I do love your Frye 'stache avatar.

Please, NO GUNS!
But you have no problem going up with a sword against a guy who can shoot fire (magic user)? Makes sense.

Please, NO GUNS!
Wow.. if every little detail in this project that you don't agree with is going to make you "remove your monetary pledge", you might as well do that now and delete your account here. You're actually trying to threaten the developers into making the game YOU want to 100% by removing your measly pledge if they don't comply? Seldom have I seen a whinier and more self-entitled post.

Member Titles
Sometimes they are given out as prizes in various competitions. I have won two or three, but since this board has a weird policy against wanking-related titles, all my title suggestions have been shot down. I'm looking at you, Fionavar!!

Risen 2: Dark Waters
It's the only Piranha Bytes game that I barely got through from beginning to end and have no intention of ever replaying, if that tells you anything. Absolutely loved Gothic 1-3 though.

What would make you pledge more?
Confirmed chainmail bikini's.

Tim Cain speaks to Eurogamer about Project Eternity
Hmm.. I wonder what this story will be like. I may sound dumb, but I much prefer quite simple, yet powerful stories as opposed to intricate, political stories. If they have a clever twist, even better. I'm still not sure this will be a game for me. NEED TO KNOW MORE

What type of "player house" would you like?
I would love a ship. It wouldn't even have to be sailable, but it could move from port to port as the main quest takes you further and further into the game. Not sure how you would go around to upgrading a ship though, unless you're replacing it altogether. One thing I always enjoy in my games, is when I can see trophies from my quests/side quests in the house I own. Like, if I got a side-quest to kill a minotaur, the next time I go back to my house, there would be a huge bull's head on a plaque in my house. Details like these make me happy. They had a little bit of this in Alpha Protocol, but I want it to be more obvious. I wouldn't even mind a trophy wall, so all the things I accomplish gathers in an easy-to-spot place.

Do you want firearms in Project Eternity?
Yes, I would love to have the ability to shoot all those annoying magic users in the face.

Different Starting Locations for Different Races
This depends entirely how they build the world, I think. With an open world, it would be kind of 'easy' to make different races start in different parts of the game. If they have little villages (for example), one in the snowy mountains in the north, one on the open steppes in the middle and one in the swampy jungle in the south, then it's kind of easy to move quest NPC's around to these different geographical places (for the introductory quests, which should be quite similar for all races). It's a good idea in any case.

Possibility of console release?
I think it's too expensive to bring this game to consoles anyhow. The certification process to get a game on consoles is really costly.

Which game hook brought you to Project Eternity and interests you the most?
I realized the talent when I played through the first two Fallout games many years ago. After that they only made games that I was not very interested in (I dislike D&D, I'm not fond of turn based combat and I much prefer first- or third person view in my games). I never joined the Black Isle forum, but when they broke free and started Obsidian, I immediately joined. Not sure why, now that I think about it. Anyhow, many many years later they finally made a game that fit my preferences: Fallout: New Vegas. One of the best games I've played, top ten at least. It has everything I enjoy, but it was their first time making a truly open-world game in 3D and it shows. So I'm hanging around for Round 2, so to speak. Next game they will have more experience building worlds, and with their writing, ideas, scripting and everything else they do so well, I know it will be awesome. I HAVE HIGH HOPES FOR YOU, OBSIDIAN! I used to really like Piranha Bytes, but after the Risen series I've kind of lost hope for them. Obsidian it is.

Chris Avellone: We'll most likely not be using Onyx engine
Would be fun if they could share what middle-ware is causing the problems. Pathfinding? Rip it out and write your own. Chances are you're not going to fail more than the pathfinding guys did in Baldur's Gate anyhow.. Sound? Rip it out and implement OpenAL. Maybe not entirely free, but cost should be a non-issue. Physics? Isn't PhysX free? I think it is. Or is it tools you are using? Movie player (Bink? Agh)? What is it? Whatwhatwhat? I'm curious.

Female character designs - let's have variety.
All I want is a chainmail bikini and some boobs, is that too much to ask?

Is the camera going to be locked? :(
Didn't Titan Quest have a locked camera? Or wait.. I think you could zoom a little but not rotate it. Anyhow, not much of an issue for me either way. I've enjoyed games utilizing both camera choices.

Magic in a mature setting
I wish they would skip magic altogether. Why would anyone wear armour, ride horses, build machines, grow crops, hunt animals, even walk up stairs, if we had magic? Why not just cast a spell and get it over with? Why invent matches if you have magic? Why fight with weapons if someone can wave his hand and kill ten people? Just read some words from a piece of paper and suddenly you have the ability to fly or destroy mountains or breathe underwater.. and nothing ever needs an explanation, at least not a logical one, because it's magic!!! The whole idea of magic is just so stupid. /vent

Upgradeable "house"/hideout/base/etc?
I love being able to upgrade my crib! But in most games, whenever I find the option to do so, I have already amassed enough wealth to buy everything at once, so I almost never actually see my love nest grow. If they implement a feature like this, make sure it's difficult to reach the highest upgrades.

Plate Armor vs. Chainmail
I want reactive armour. As soon as someone sneezes in my general direction, I blow up like a fat hand grenade with legs.
