  1. This is probably what an effective female melee warrior should look like: Very strong, short hair, athletic. Perfect.
  2. Except.. not wearing a helmet is as bad as wearing a chainmail bikini. Also, both those women depicted are way too skinny to be able to be strong enough to carry plate armour and swing a sword effectively. Not to mention hold a lance steady on horseback! Long hair in combat? That's a definite nono.
  3. I can find parts of dialogue or character behaviour charming. But as soon as I get the slightest notion that the writers are trying to steer me into a "romance" in a game, I immediately dislike it and actively avoid it. It would have to take a very special writer to make it organic enough for me to enjoy a game romance.
  4. When will they release more info on the technology they are planning to use in this project? I am interested in knowing if they plan to make a new 2D engine (unlikely, I guess), use their internally developed Onyx engine (as seen in Dungeon Siege 3) or go the InXile route and adopt a third party engine, Unity for example? I'm guessing the Onyx engine would be well suited for this project, considering they must have a lot of expertise on it by now and could basically start creating assets immediately. Not sure if it's '2D' enough though (or how flexible it is).
  5. I want dragons. And sparkly vampires. Mostly sparkly vampires. Can I have that? Please?
  6. Maybe tools as one of the stretch goals?
  7. But.. doesn't the same logic apply to chainmail bikini's too? Just don't wear them if you don't like them? CONFUSED
  8. Both. Why not? The more, the better. Just make sure that it feels like additions to the game after the fact instead of cut out content that should have been included in the game to begin with. This is the only thing I dislike about DLC today.
  9. I don't think even the good folks at Obsidian expected it to hit the target quite that fast. They're probably panicking over at Obsidian headquarters, trying to come up with stretch goals in a hurry.
  10. Why do you keep linking that? Do you think it proves anything? That because some Amazon tribe had female fighters 200 years ago, that women are equal to men on a battlefield? I'm sorry, it only makes you look ridiculous. There is a reason why men and women are not competing against each other in sports (sports is the battlefield of our time). And if there are guns in the game (guns are the only tools that somewhat equalizes men and women in battle), then I don't know why we're even discussing armour at all since it would be useless.
  11. Holy crap, Sawyer can sing!
  12. So realism is important, huh? I hope you do realize how a woman has to look, physically, to be able to fight amongst men. We're not talking slim bodies here, we're talking Bulgarian shotputters. There can be no petite little 100 lbs women, they have to be stout 200+ lbs packages. I am sure this will be a very.. aesthetically pleasing game if realism in combat will be the leading design motto.
  13. Congratulations, Obsidian! Very cool to be able to gather this amount of money so fast! I must admit I underestimated the drawing power of your names and resume's.
  14. The funny thing is.. it's not exactly like the majority of the games I play has unattractive male leads either. Never saw anyone complaining about the objectification of men. Raise your hand if you can identify with Commander Shephard, guys! ... And before someone claims it's not the same thing or that men are not objectified in the same way, take a look at one of our very few female member's love relationship with an NPC in Fallout: New Vegas named Boone. It was like watching a creepy cybersex session over several weeks, on these very boards. The only thing that differs is the way the objectification occurs. Men are generally more visually inclined, thus chainamil bikinis, while women generally prefer.. other things.
  15. Since we're going with an isometric view, I am hoping for a map like seen in the first Sacred game. No loading times, just a gigantic landmass, open for exploration at any time. So I guess I voted for streaming. I must add that even though I enjoyed Sacred, it was not really a good game. But I was always intrigued by the sheer size of that game. Imagine a talented studio using similar technology! Now that would get me very interested.
  16. Wow.. I know he is dead and all (presumably), but.. Did everyone really forget what a complete nuisance he was? He made such a fool of himself, several times, that he decided to stop using certain character names and come back as another, all the while denying that he was the former name. But it was always easy to spot who he was, BECAUSE HE WAS SUCH A NUISANCE. I mean.. he left 10,000 - 20,000 posts on this board. Go read some of them if your memory fails you this bad. I think it's great that you want to remember him, but please.. remember him for who he was, not some made-up person that better fits some PC agenda.
  17. Nothing. What exactly do you think 2D maps and cutscenes will add to the game's roleplaying value?
  18. They didn't. Another case of rose tinted glasses. Also, 3D games can age as well as 2D games, it depends more on art style than technology. In the beginning of 3D, aging really was horrible. But just compare Wasteland to Baldur's Gate to see that 2D also evolved from unplayable today to acceptable. We're now at a stage in 3D graphics that, yes, they will look dated in 20 years, but they will not hurt your eyes any more than Baldur's Gate does today.
  19. Climbing was actually one of the reasons I fell in love with the Gothic series of games (although they only used climbing for the first two parts..). Also, swimming and diving. An RPG with lateral movement and worlds built with not only one plane in mind! Imagine that!
  20. I started with Wasteland in 1988. Loved it, still my favourite game. As a kid I dreamt about being in this world, trying to survive and scavenge for items in long forgotten buildings. Then came the Fallouts, which I enjoyed, but not because of the combat (which I thought sucked), but because I wanted to play in those worlds. It wasn't as open world as Wasteland and I actually felt that the combat took away some of the enjoyment of the game, but it was passable. Fallout 3 was a great comeback for this series. It wasn't as well written or as interesting as either Wasteland or the Fallouts, but it showed that with a talented team changing perspective and combat system did not destroy the feel of the old games. In fact, it improved it greatly for me. I was finally in the game, something I had dreamt about since 1988. Then came Fallout: New Vegas. I absolutely love it. One of my favourite games ever. We did NOT all want a turn based top down Fallout.
  21. Wait.. why can't they make an Arcanum 2? Who owns the rights to that name?
  22. Meta-gamers unite! Why isn't the over aged orc larper here already? He would love this crowd.
  23. This. We've had this discussion a billion times on these boards already. I'm sorry to say things that may collide awkwardly with your image of yourself, but turn-based does not make a game "deeper". It doesn't make you, as a player, more intelligent. Neither does isometric views. Storytelling, choice and consequences, mature themes, all of those are independent of combat systems and camera angle. I did. And in all these games, melee fighters were bound to dress appropriately, press attack and then.. wait. Hope for a critical. Got one. Woo. Maybe drink a potion. Fight over. Yay. I'm sure they will not trample on your mental idolization of Planescape: Torment if they give melee fighters a few options in combat.
  24. It's actually because I don't think it's an issue. Games are entertainment, a number of people are entertained by having these representations in their games, it doesn't have to be more complicated than that. But of course, if you're hell-bent on cooking up a **** storm by bringing inequality issues into the discussion about a game, go right ahead, I'll stick to my disingenious comment because, frankly, I live in Sweden and we have this very discussion about everything every day and I'm a bit tired of it. I wish there was some arena where designers and artists could do whatever they wanted without people bringing in real life problems whenever they get the chance. So yeah.. I like having sexy women in my games.
  25. I'm hoping for ragdoll physics. That would be the only thing that could interest me in using magic: set of a fireball in the middle of a crowd and watch the bodies flying. Maybe this game isn't for me..
