  1. You'd be surprised how seemingly small things can be actually quite large. I've not played a Bioware game since ME and DA:O in which this romance thing was already pretty damn jarring and awkward; a glued over teenage sex fantasy. And things only got worse after that (as I learned lurking in BSN back then; and seeing some in game videos later on that seriously left me slackjawed at what I had just witnessed). Lost all interest, and never regained it - not only because of the blatant fanservice coupling, but it being one of the reasons. In general, romance is such a large element to actually be done right in an interactive medium like cRPG's, that when ever I see such being asked for and/or specifically advertised as a feature, I always find myself hoping it's a joke (like the shotgun wedding in Fallout 2, or an actual joke "haha, had ya there didn't I"). Now, I don't know why I even contributed in this thread as I've no interest in DA:I (it just doesn't look or sound very appealing overall). But I blame boredom and caffeine withdrawals.
  2. Well, yeah that's about it, what Humanoid said. I guess one of the big reasons it feels so utterly bad is because it actually starts out fairly interesting (and for me, one mark of potential - back in the day it was new - was that it didn't use D&D rules which I've never been a fan of); then, after the entrée, it proceeds to offer a full plate of tedium spiced with boredom and decorated with leaves of futility and no drinks to flush it all down.
  3. Fallout 3, Lionheart: Legacy of the Crusader and Oblivion are the only ones that come to mind right now as serious contenders. I usually try not to memorize ****; I'll remember them when I see them again and that should be enough.
  4. This is definitely not the game Obsidian is announcing, but I wonder if they are in good terms with Ubisoft now, after South Park, that they could probably consider a mid budget sequel to the B.A.T. series (Ubi published the first 2 games in '90 and '92, so they may own the lisence). Seeing that MMX did at least moderately well, another old school revival could be an interesting prospect (and not least because the concept of the B.A.T. games was ripe with potential for interesting gameplay interactivity, reactivity and storytelling possibilities - while still remaining faithful to the original gameplay and design, of course).
  5. Betting my money on they will still release Enhanced Edtion patch later after the release Maybe they realised they have bitten over a mouthful (judging from their pompous statements) and need now backtrack a bit to fix and adjust the game so that it works while they finish up the EE patch for post February release. Wouldn't surprise me should that be the case; but nonetheless, it's good that they take their time.
  6. Nah, I don't think it's worth my time starting one. People realised that no such thing as TB would happen with this game (and when I asked Sawyer about a late inclusion with the expansion pack; it was a close to zero chance), so the discussion drowned. Just saying it would be more interesting.
  7. We've had this one too; several times, and with the same conclusions going in circles.
  8. The case for Turn-based? A case for TB combat could actually be a more interesting discussion than this one.
  9. Starting a long awaited rerun of Harvester, and giving the first spins on South Park as Douchebag the Mage.
  10. Gametrailers - 8.3/10 A positive reception overall despite some insisting on digging for ****.
  11. I would agree in principle; although, I would (strongly) prefer different gameplay from the Bethesdian featherweight shooter in a miniaturized sandbox world.
  12. I don't think anyone would dispute that (sales) for the simple fact that the intended core audiences are different. Times have changed and the market has changed as well, but I don't think it's died for these certain genres (as we can see from the current influx of more or less popular games made with these "rose-tinted glasses" on).
  13. Probably (likely) not, but seeing what kinds of games they've published... Rogue Warrior, Wet, Brink, Hunted... and seeing the current influx of old school titles, one would think they'd see a potentially better money maker and good PR right there in a decently budgeted and professionally crafted old school game with technical new school virtues and some name recognition. The market is there.
  14. Doesn't seem to concern the PC master race, which is of course very good; but I think I'll wait a bit before trusting it won't in the end.
  15. - Never liked, or been able to fully appreciate RT or RTwP combat in cRPG's. It's always been TB or PB for me, where the fun is. - I tend to appreciate more abstract way of doing combat over full hands on over every little quirk. - I like having only nominal or suggestive control over my party members that are not of my own creation. Their decisions, hits and misses are part of their character I need to live with. - I tend to not like overt or sole focus on combat and dungeon crawling. To me RPG's have always been about the overall possibilities of interaction between the PC and the world (combat is part of that, but not all of it).
  16. Yep, wouldn't believe without seeing. But it's a nice thought.
  17. It would be a nice surprise if Obsidian got a shot at another "inbetweener" Fallout while Beth polishes their next mainstream blockbuster scifi-TES - or what ever it is they're doing - which, as far as I'm concerned, they can keep polishing until the next ice age.
  18. Bros (or brodettes, to not exclude anyone) who can't handle it just must settle down with "nomance" just like the females of our prestigious species. Too bad. (I know that was out of your context, but I couldn't help it -- please forgive me. )
  19. It's pretty understandable if SouthPark the series is dubbed as well and you are used to that. Sure is understandable; but is it really as essential as implied? I've used to subtitles in the series. I don't need them to understand what is being said in general, but they are helpful with some referential jokes that may need to be translated to a bit different form to be funny in my language, and few words I'm not familiar with (or can't make out due to the way it is being said -- or a combination of these things). I don't believe Finnish subtitles make their way in the game, so I'll have to make do. Not a biggie. Anyways....
  20. Why would you want to dub over the original anyway? Aren't subtitles enough (I'm pretty sure the game will be subbed in Spanish)?
  21. For some reason, I've always been impressed with the Fallout 2 tanker cutscene:
  22. They are passive blessings. Resistances (relative to the blessing) and abilities (spot traps, spot secrets, and spot enemies earlier) that are always on. I mean, the place is chock full of things your party uses them on.
  23. No lack of ambition, that's for sure. And there are some good ideas there. However, a couple of years back I would've probably thought that this looks pretty neat, and I probably would've pledged too. But right now it doesn't seem like something I care too much about as a whole. I'll see what it looks like at release.
  24. Someone should make "first world problems" meme about this. "My videogame characters have too big (or small) boobs... *sob*" If ever it was fitting...
