I have a buddy key as well, if anyone in the world still needs one. I spent one weekend playing the beta, which was enough for me. I like how they handled some of the questing, but the actual gameplay felt awkward to me. Also, I really hate how every "class" has magically-themed abilities.

Yeah, that one really surprised me. Every time RPS mentioned the new Thief in the past, not-so-nice things were said -- it's good to hear it has some redeeming qualities. It's not really my cup of tea, so I'll wait until it's on sale.

I recently replayed Psychonauts and actually quit once I got to the Meat Circus. Once was enough

GMG sent me my Steam key this morning, though Steam says it still has a few hours to go before it is unlocked. Can't wait to check it out this afternoon... The first thing I'm going to do is manually save my game.

Those were my main issues as well... There were others, of course. I found the whole final Act to be rather slapdash -- it feels like there was an entire act cut or something. I really like how the story was told over the span of 7 years, but it felt very artificial because so little in the world actually changed. Your companions continue to wear the same clothing(with the exception of Aveline, IIRC), the city is totally static, etc... Obviously a by-product of the ultra short development cycle, but still a missed opportunity. I also really liked the focus on Hawke and his family vs. saving the entire continent/planet/universe... Though a lot of people hated that, and that Hawke didn't start off as extraordinary.

To the best of my knowledge, you make a new character from scratch for Dragonfall. Nice! I was hoping that was the case.

Spill your blasphemous opinions on CRPGs here
Noviere replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
I thought the world/landscape in Morrowind was very good at the time... But like every Bethesda game, the character models and animations were embarrassingly bad. If SWTOR has taught me anything, it's that evil in the Star Wars universe(or at least how it is interpreted by Bioware) is just juvenile nonsense. There is no motivation behind the bad actions one takes, other than being "ohhhh so deliciously evil." My female sith inquisitor would constantly spout stuff like "Time for blood!" Also, all of the villains are moustache-twirling mwahahaha'ers. -
TSW is such a disappointment in that way... The world and the writing want so desperately to suck me in, but it's just not fun to play. In addition to that though, I find the player models off-puttingly bad. The faces have this creepy, deformed, weird quality to them. And the combat animations are awful.

Spill your blasphemous opinions on CRPGs here

-I hate first person games. This goes back to my childhood with Ultima Underworld, Eye of the Beholder, M&M, etc... I don't know why, but I just hate first person. -I almost never bother with an "evil" playthrough any more. Evil in CRPGs always seems to boil down to being stupidly cruel, and rarely make sense in context with the rest of the story. "I'm going to save the world! But first, let me beat up this old woman for her 3 copper pieces!" -I'm starting to realize that most of the games I loved growing up are pretty awful now(see: Baldur's Gate). -Bad art direction can ruin a game for me. I don't need a game to have all the modern bells and whistles... But if I dislike the art, I constantly get distracted by it. -I prefer RTwP, despite also voting for turn-based for Torment :D -
what is your worst rpg game ever played?
Noviere replied to darthdraken's topic in Computer and Console
I think I often misremember NWN because I had so much fun with the toolset, player-made stuff, and even some online DMing. But the official campaign was absolutely awful. I remember one area near the end that was a huge map, with levers in each of the corners that you had to pull... with boring filler combat happening every few feet it seemed. I couldn't understand why they had included an entire area that served no purpose other than to delay the end of the game by 20 minutes. The entire campaign felt like a bad student project, and I don't remember anything else about it. -
I've been playing the Blackwell games. I played the first one, and part of the second a few months ago, but got sidetracked by something else. I played through the third yesterday, and am now on the fourth... It's weird that the sprites and portraits for this one are worse than the previous game. Still, it's a great series and I am looking forward to the finale "soon."

Ultima IX, without a doubt. It was basically unplayable due to all of the bugs and technical issues... But aside from that, it was an absolutely awful game that shat all over the previous games in the franchise. -
Where is your Subtitle?
Noviere replied to StrangeCat's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I prefer numbers myself. Most of the time subtitles just become so unwieldy. The worst is when they include several words with no meaning outside of the setting(ie: Neverwinter Nights: Shadows of Undrentide). If a multi-word title is going to go with a subtitle, I prefer if it is a single word(ie: Dragon Age: Origins, Ultima IX: Ascension). If they did go for a Bourne-style title for sequels, I wonder if they would use Pillars or Eternity as the "root" of the title... -
Just finished Jazzpunk. I don't really know what to say about it, other than that I liked it. It's bizarre, and funny... and uhm. Yeah.

Your favourite game list after RPGCodex revealed theirs
Noviere replied to IndiraLightfoot's topic in Computer and Console
Ultima VII the Black Gate/Ultima VII Part 2 The Serpent Isle Planescape Torment Vampire: The Masquerade -- Bloodlines Dragon Age: Origins Mass Effect Star Wars: Knights of Old Republic 1 & 2 Neverwinter Nights 2: Mask of the Betrayer Fallout Ultima VI Baldur's Gate 2: Shadows of Amn My list really isn't in any specific order... The exception being Ultima 7/7.5, which I consider to be the best CRPGs I've ever played. -
Can't wait! It's so pretty

Hopes on female armors design
Noviere replied to MarieL's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I tend to prefer semi-realistic armor, myself. I don't need it to go into medieval-life-simulation-levels of reality though... I just find it easier to believe in a setting that has a basis in reality. That said, if a game wants to go over the top, I think it should take a "what's good for the goose is good for the gander" stance on revealing armor. A chain mail bikini on a woman, should look like a chainmail bikini on a man.- 148 replies

I picked up Amalur + the DLC as well. The camera is what stopped me from buying it in the past -- I'd played it at a friend's for a few hours, and just hated how close it felt to the character. It looks like there is a fanmade camera mod which will hopefully make it more bearable for me.

I don't know what he was supposed to be originally, but Josh Sawyer talked about him back in December:
