  1. I would say this is the case... If they have same law as Germany, retailers can't sell unrated games or else they get fined by huge money... only option is to import the game then...
  2. I bet the developers get same money as from retail boxes, and publishers gets all the extra money...
  3. That's like asking "Would you prefer AIDS or a pony?" Not very good comparison, imo, because there are many people who would rather pick AIDS, just because, the thingies you usualy do while getting it (breeding yourself), are much more fun, than the things you do while getting the pony (breeding ponnies)...
  4. Did everyone just miss a Dr. Stranglove reference? Apparently so. Maybe one from Deuce Bigalow 2 would have had more success? I weep for teh Internets. Next time i use a reference from some original slovak show, and i will be wondering why no one did get it aswell, ok?
  5. I have just finnished Final Fantasy VI, still playing Dissidia and resubscribed in WoW for 1 more month... i bet i stop playing after the month again...
  6. 1) no one talked about EA in this one 2) MW2 is exception, not a standard for gaming industry... 3) industry might have record revenues, but you know revenue != profit... with biger and bigger budgets they need more and more revenue to turn in profit... that is the FAIL of the managment... all they do nowadays is to cry about piracy and second hand sales lowering their profits, and only thing which lowers it, is their opinnion that, the more they invest into development, the better it sells... at some point you hit a turning point, where you can't accumulate more profits despite bigger investments, that's basic economics... if you need to sell 2 million copies to turn in profit, you fail, only 1 in 100 games are able to achieve this, i realy wish sometimes there would be zero piracy, but yes, then they would find another scapegoat...
  7. Maybe that's the reason why big corporate companies in the industry are bleeding money and are kicking people out of their work left and right...
  8. Obsidian: Not much since Sega was paying the bills for it for the most part. Its the publishers dime you are spending not the developers generally. Bioware: Nothing since Bioware is now a arm of EA, it cost EA not Bioware. Dragon Age was in development for more than 5 years... so it costed them something for sure
  9. My top 10 of all times 1. Final Fantasy X 2. Final Fantasy X-2 3. Wing Commander III 4. Planescape: Torment 5. Baldur's Gate 2 6. Unreal Tournament Classic 7. UFO: Enemy Unknown (X-Com: UFO Defense) 8. Counter-Strike 1.5 9. Dissidia: Final Fantasy 10. DotA
  10. I don't generally feel that the overall quality of movies has changed much since then. Maybe a bit on the decline, if only because there's so much more out there. Nostalgia will start to prop up both of the movies I mentioned more and more too. excellent movies are made nowadays aswell, but not in such a number like decade or 2 ago... but as anything else, it's just my subjective feeling... i can say at least that 10 years ago, when i run into DVD renting place, i found anything good for watch in less then 5 minutes, nowadays i have to browse the DVD for 10-20 minutes to see something good... not to mention TV, which i watch like 4 hours a month nowadays... so much crap pouring out of every channel everyday, that i would definately sell my TV if i would not have any console... not worth the money...
  11. Its all a personal line where the gamer feels like they aren't getting value for the money. If Bethesda's DLC price to content ratio was standard for all games, I would neither want to nor be able to afford to spend my money on gaming. $10 for 1-2 hours of gaming isn't worth it So for me DLC's are too expensive at their current price point. that's why some people prefer to wait for compilation if you dont need e-peen stroking, you realy do not need to buy the games on release day and you save a lot of money for the same fun
  12. The sum of all fears? Also, uncanny valley CGI scenes should be in Matrix-like movies. For instance, the protagonist hallucinates and the real/CGI scenes are used to tell apart when he's seeing things and when not. Patriot Games and Hunt For Red October were two excellent Tom Clancy-based movies. but iirc both have much more than 10 years, at that time there was lot of excellent movies made and this would be more likely the cast of the movies today
  13. i almost puked at the end...
  14. yes but there i difference between Point Lookout type of DLC, and bigger inventory type of DLC... one feels like small expansion, one feels like a ripoff
  15. i can say for myself that i would not hesitate to buy even full Infinity Engine game, but that's me... i do love game with manual art much more than fully rendered 3D animations... and the model posted was an hypothetical view of how he thinks the game business my go, the DA was chosen just to make it easy to understand, because it's the game which is currently talked about... he could name it differently, but he did made his point clear... and i also think, that some companies want to go this way, and it is sad that some people are stupid enough to pay that much money for these games, making our hobbies less and less appealing...
  16. i think that we have a case of a personal oppinion in here... i you hates NWN2, you are hating its modules by default aswell
  17. This story does say, that indeed EA was responsible for many of the issues with Dark Knight (but not all) http://www.kotaku.com.au/2009/01/how_pande...to_a_nightmare/
  18. When i clicked on it, I found something more interesting... http://kotaku.com/5406449/rumor-rip-pandem...ne=true&s=i and when after you read it, read this one aswell http://www.gamasutra.com/php-bin/news_index.php?story=15834
  19. It's alot scarier when you realise that it's probably got a much longer history. Arguing with Volo is like arguing with Grommy, flaming pointless, unproductive, and an absolute waste of energy. heh i am happy i did not end up on that list \o/ atm i am only awaiting the comming of Final Fantasy XIII and XIV, Gran Turismo 5 and Alpha Protocol (and maybe F: New Vegas - still thinking if i shall buy F3 or not, if i dont end up buying F3 i might miss F:NV aswell ) Unfortunately there is nothing more which i found enough interesting to care about, and that makes me sad EDIT: i did forgot about AvP3 and maybe Doom 4... so it is not as tragic as i thought, but it still could be much better... PS: and yes, you are right about MW2, but don't tell anyone that i agree with you, it might seriously damage our image
