  1. I am pretty sure I finished the game and the stocks went up ... Sorry couldn't help myself. I just got to some later levels and once again the game put a big smile on my face, Drowned Barrows and the Painted Masks, both pretty great!
  2. I agree about Abydon's - it could be really fun but weapons break too fast.
  3. Bull. Have you met Jubilost? :D Please, if this guy was in Deadfire, Eder would at least have some competition. I do like Pathfinder a lot!! Harim is my favorite so far, plus his quest was pretty cool ... but Serafan did refer her his fluffy blue balls in one conversation ... anyway I am curious where Pathfinder leads its got a lot of cool things in it. We should revive the posts on their forum and get them to allow for taking 10 and taking 20 - am so sick of reloading on a 1 roll to open a chest with minor difficulty where I should be able to take 10 or take 20 ....
  4. When it comes to narrative of side-quests, sure, maybe it does. But the reactivity is a whole different world. Strategically using weather effects with your spells, and objects located on the battlefield, is something Deadfire will never have. In Deadfire every fight is chug pots, eat food, buff up, tank & spank. Also killing enemies by throwing a chest at them is hilarious. Don't get me wrong I liked DOS2 and DOS1 they are good games and fun, but again am more for combat in POE - DOS2 is a little too easy in my book to get an overwhelming advantage ... The other thing is the money cheat that I discovered on my own lol not reading forums, I thought I was so smart until I noticed I started steam rolling all the encounters (edit: will note I play on the hardest difficulty) because my gear was always the best ... in terms of throwing a barrel totally and there are a hundred other cools things about it too I mean I am an Ultima fan so the fact that you can pick up a spoon is cool. But as for the poison clouds, water/electricity stuff - I am not so sold on it, I always preferred turning someone into a chicken, cutting their hamstring so they bleed when they walk, and then catching the chicken on fire so it runs around ... fastest way to kill someone I found ... I would recommend DOS2 for sure I liked it but something about POE games and its combat/characters allows me to play them over and over again where I am not sure I could do that with the DOS games.
  5. This all looks super positive and exciting ... can't wait for the final DLC!!!
  6. But Jaethal is evil and moves about as fast as a tractor ... Tristan looks like a line backer ... Harim is probably my favorite ... I am sick of Valerie's shield ... The gnomes look like a mix between a Kender and a Hobbit ... I don't know partly just joshing - I like Pathfinder, but lets be honest the character writing isn't even half as colorful as POE1 or 2. @xzar_Monty - I considered sacrificing Xoti with Marux Amanth, which is always an option. And nothing beats watching Pallegina storm off because she can't take a joke I am still a little upset you get railroaded on quests since you can't attack NPCs. I mean numerous times I have wanted to wipeout a village once I made peace with them. EDIT: Would say that it is a great start for Owlcat, and I think in the future they can expand on what they created and it is only going to get better and better!!
  7. I like being a pirate darn it! If they do POE3 they should do something as cool!!!
  8. I would pick Pillars over DOS2, just because the narrative in DOS2 is such a mess - for example the end is almost as bad as the end of BG2 - the whole epic story boils downward rather than upward. Probably fun for multiple players but as a single player game POE2 all the way. Plus I would argue the quests in POE2 are well told and very entertaining. There is some fun stuff in DOS2, like the teleporting barrel, but the Deadfire has as much if not more detail.
  9. Don't forget the "Wino Wayfarer" ... his flames of Devotion give everyone a -1 Dexterity bonus
  10. I am praying it wasn't the ICP reference that got the Dev Team to divulge its secrets ... Edit: I am thinking flesh eating barbarian blood mage right now could possibly be a member of ICP.
  11. Is it safe to say that Witcher is the modern version of King's Quest and Pillars is the modern day version of Ultima? I mean I think the adventure RPG has always been more popular so it is no wonder games like Witcher do so well. I think it has little to do with it being a better game, and more to do with the genre being more popular and it being a shinning example on how to pull it off right - so trying to compare the two is like trying to argue why beer is better than wine. Anyway let's vote for POE2!!! Is the voting still happening??
  12. I'm a rest hoarder ... I never rest ... wait are we talking about a video game or real life?
  13. Only 3 weeks to finish my first playthrough - and then to start a new chapter with a new character ... hehe EDIT: I bet they up the spell number for priests in the challenge, but not for wizards bwahahaha!
  14. Quote Yeah, once again, heard this sham again too with Star Wars. I sure hope for LucasFilm their "new fans" was worth ****ting all over us that shelled out 2 billion just for the name. And now they're gone. Whoops. Also how's that BioWare crowd nowadays? Gotta love the universal knowledge BioWare will be executed after Anthem yet somehow BW itself is not seeing it... or is in heavy denial. Probably the latter. ---------------------- I don't get the Star Wars reference. I mean I actually saw the first Star Wars in theaters, and a studio like LucaFilm gave stewardship to Disney, I mean George Lucas is 74 - dude I am pretty sure can't run the studio anymore ... plus I liked the prequels, everyone hated on it but man it will go down in history as one of the first feature films to spearhead the use of digital cameras: https://www.redsharknews.com/technology/item/2990-how-george-lucas-pioneered-the-use-of-digital-video-in-feature-films-with-the-sony-hdw-f900 I mean the dude basically made the success of Avatar possible. I am not sure if you are talking about the games or the movies though ... not to hip to the gaming industry ... but pretty sure George Lucas didn't just sell out for the paycheck. I am just waiting for Netflix to buy Paramount Studios ... times change for sure.
  15. I would say though that if you are discussing in terms of balancing, having a feature like Empower where you can refresh abilities gives balancing an added edge, where you can make sure your encounters are a little more difficult, but at the same time make them more approachable for a variety of parties. Serious question is there a game you can think of where you aren't either save spamming or rest spamming? I am more a save spammer ...
  16. throne of bhaal shifts the focus back to the bhaalspawn etc. bg2 was a fun pulpy fantasy romp that traded in raw enthusiasm - and it had writers and designers good enough to convey such. peeps who have notion that it was a profound storytelling experience miss the mark tbh, and undersell the games primary strength - that its a joyful, creative, messy experience not a deep one. i honestly feel that bg2's gleeful kitchen-sink approach is the best argument anyone's ever made for the forgotten realms as a setting. PoE's vibe and goals are just way too different to be comparable. Well, sure but I grew up reading Dragon Lance / Forgotten Realm / every other kind of fantasy book I could get me hands on, and also playing D&D and a lot of computer RPGs, so I was confused on why it turned into a simple tale and ended with very little to do with the Time of Troubles. Ugh, Throne of Bhaal was too much an after thought plus I am in the Ultima camp in terms of favorite RPGs BG2 is great don't get me wrong just never understood why people go nuts over it - I had more fun playing the first Police Quest ; ) which is apples to oranges. Agreed POE is a totally different style of game. On another note - I think Berath's challenge is one of the best, especially if you don't like the wound system. And I must say if you haven't used an Empowered attack to win a fight well you are missing out, but that being said, I am not sure which I like better per rest abilities or per encounter - I like good combat and POE2 has that - POE also had it but is one better than the other? I will say I think POE2 is a little more difficult on PoTD than POE1 - for instance I just did a fight at level 12 where Aloth was on the ground with 3 wounds - at the end of the fight most of the party was knocked out - my Watcher was wearing the Heart Chime and it probably saved everyone ... no empowers left, Xoti had a spell left, I mean it was a perfect example of why I love POE and POE2 combat, it was epic and at one point I thought I would have to reload I guess my point is that even though they changed it, they did the changes really well. After playing Pathfinder myself I understand the why people like the classic DnD-style, it is fun too but in a different way that is also very similar if that makes sense... I think POE's crowd is more of the DnD crowd and less the RPG-adventure crowd so they maybe should have stuck closer to the DnD-style
  17. Eh, I am guessing a little bit of esoteric knowledge led to them going with an American South dialect: http://www.bbc.com/culture/story/20180207-how-americans-preserved-british-english
  18. Hmm... what if Aloth reawakened and what we see now is yet another personality? Which is another way of saying that restarting at level 1 isn't a problem. Most companions did that in PoE1. I mean in terms of the characters - Eder was playing mayor and gaining weight; Pallegina was drunk on a boat playing mercenary; and Aloth has been addicted to Svef for years (it happened when he went undercover) ... I mean I am wearing the Devil of Caroc as I play right now ... which makes me very happy, poor thing. --- I second playing Pathfinder sparingly because of bugs ... I'm waiting to see if they do anything to fix Kingdom management. I mean, P:K is such a classic DnD game its hard not to like it, I mean even combat feels a lot like old DnD games.
  19. Actually when you first sign up Kickstarter checks the payment method to see if it is valid, and if that changes in the course of the campaign, you have the option to fix your pledge. The couple Kickstarter that I was involved with the "funny" pledge thing happens, but it was rare in our case. Plus campaigns are short so it is unlikely that one payment method will go bad in the 30 to 60 days they run.
  20. JE Sawyer has mentioned this was a function of basically overreacting to player/critical feedback from PoE1, wherein the critical path seemed too long, and the final act especially too long. So they course-corrected by focusing more on faction and side quests, and making the final area extremely short. He's acknowledged that they probably went too far in this direction, given the response to Deadfire's critical path. I think as stated in a previous thread about the ease of solving quests, it is also a function of game mechanics allowing players to rip through quests very fast. I think if they slowed the story down with a little more complicated character progression, and some more quest specific mechanics it would have solved much of the narrative criticism. I am not a big fan of BG2, fun game but the narrative is pretty frustrating ... I mean the whole Time of Troubles tale of a god boils down to a slighted Elf?? It still upsets me POE2 is a better game in all respects (I know I am the minority). Edit: When I say quest specific mechanics I mean the need for the certain conditions to be met to solve quests - like a certain item, skill, etc. They left this very broad. And for character progression I just mean if they made leveling up your character a little more complicated in terms of unique choices.
  21. I must say was just reading an update, I don't think I am pronouncing one single name correctly ... very German of them to confuse my English with their spelling
