  1. Hehe, co-op'd the thread to a PF:K comparison to POE2. Well, just a caveat I really like POE2 so I am definitely biased. Hmm, combat is better in POE2 - more versatile and smooth which gives you a lot more options plus in general you can really tell (speaking of PoTD) that Obsidian put a lot of thought into crafting encounters and enemies - good to have a comparison I think we were all getting spoiled; POE2 graphics and UI much better, include in this options for playing (ie - respec'ing characters, etc); I haven't gotten far enough in PF:K to compare the two stories yet but my guess is that PF:K is a little more involved and expansive; PF:K has more options for character creation and leveling up which is always fun; So resting in PF:K vs resting in POE2 - not sure what I prefer - I really don't get much from resting in PF:K as it reminds me of a mini-game so I if I would compare it to the ship in POE2 - the ship is better - though that being said POE2 does not have the Kingdom function so not sure what to compare that too -I guess you can compare it to your ship though I am not sure - but both comparisons except for sleep vs sleep might be apples to oranges; in general I think the scripted interaction and character dialogue in POE2 is better; as for gameplay mechanics like weight load, exhaustion and timer on quests - PF:K did a really good job and I don't mind managing them so I think I would give one up for PF:K here; I enjoy the crafting and weapon enchanting in POE2; I must say quests in PF:K are going to have a hard time knocking out some of the quests in POE2 - like Fort Deadlight / Poko Kaharo / Vallian family feud quest - those were pretty genius but will see haven't gotten far enough in PF:K yet. Both games are great and having a lot of fun with both. Once I finish both would be fun to revisit this topic. Not sure what else to compare???
  2. I agree level 10 at Poko Kaharo was tough too, doable but in no way what it used to be ... can't wait to see what they did with the ending.
  3. What's wrong with CA other than it being the best place ever ... ; )
  4. It's going alright ... ended up respec'ing for high accuracy which worked in the beginning, but regretting I didn't min/max my character right now, ugh!! - just saved the outpost on "Hard." Did a little more research on the prestige classes so went with a one handed fighter and planning for an Eldritch Knight ... anyone playing on "Unfair"?
  5. yeah, 100 upboats for some sort of non-eothas-style rest spam limit. Rymrgand is kind of also a rest spam limit since good food decays so quickly, but both Eothas and Rymrgand effectively also function as anti-exploration mechanisms, which I don't like. After playing with god challenges more, I'm not a big fan of Abydon. It starts becoming extremely tedious mid-late game. Not so much the economy of having to be really sparing with exceptional and better weapons, but because combat gets to the point where you're doing enough damage or receiving enough damage that it seems like you need to repair after each encounter. I have a Abydon+Skaen run, and honestly I'm having a real hard time getting motivated to play it (I will probably just rush through the critical path) because the Abydon aspect is getting to be a real tedium. Yeah I noticed this about Abydon's even during the tough fights in the first section of the game, I would burn through weapons in one encounter so an adjustment sounds good ... wonder if it is tied to PEN in anyway, not sure how you could figure that out though as it seems complicated.
  6. Just started the game ... it's pretty fun story is pretty great, quick questions though ... what difficulty are people playing on ... I mean just starting up with not a lot of thought into character creation, picked fighter with high AC basically, tried it on Hard, but at some point wasn't able to hit the assassins anymore without buffs. The flipside is I went one level down and I was wiping the floor with people. I am guessing I need Hard, and redo my character to make him a high THACO character (is that term even used anymore lol) but would love some feedback on what difficulty people are using
  7. Hmm, but it is nice for people who like to build AI scripts to have an advantage in this, I mean either way someone gets left out ...
  8. Just opened P:K as I await for a hotfix for Dual Wielding, I am not running a 2080i nor do I have dual graphics cards linked, but I have a moderately high-end card and haven't had many issues especially lately. Wondering which cards are having the problem, I run an EVGA, maybe it is a brand thing? Off-topic the new i9 processors look amazing, combine that with a USB 3.1 motherboard, and ... ugh I want to build a new computer!!!!
  9. All this is good, every patch I am liking the game even more! Can't wait to get into the later part of the game, and will definitely attempt the challenges, especially the food decay one Now about my dual wielding character ...
  10. Okay! I am not an expert on the game mechanics, but here I go: So I am having a hard time finding info but I am running into this experience where my Dual Wielding character keeps attacking over and over again with the same weapon. See screenshot below - 6x and more with a dagger: I am using two weapons of the same speed. See attached screenshot of the weapons I am wielding. So sometimes it is stuck on one and sometimes the other. I thought maybe it was choosing the best weapon to attack with, but if you look at the dagger attacks, well no pen so that theory is out. I don't think this is normal. So as far as I can tell it starts to happen right after Pelligina activates "Shared Flames" - I am tired or would do more testing. I would also note that the animation for "Shared Flames" continues even after it expires for my character. NEXT- So I ran some tests on my "Shadowing Beyond" skill as I notice I tend to miss with this skill a bunch - which is a bummer because I am trying to get the backstab damage - so I started looking at accuracy and I noticed that my character when invisible isn't getting the Accuracy perception bonus from Disciplined Strike. Is this normal too? Sorry just don't know the finer details. Link to a saved game, screenshots available, any help in this is greatly appreciated https://drive.google.com/open?id=1f4eIuNEyoieGbtKTsV3cjIYV2oA-5oFO EDIT - so ignore the strike through comment about Shared flame - I tested, though the animation stays in effect even after shared flame expires. I actually have no idea what causes the dual wield issue. I am providing a save game right before a battle and the one above is right after https://drive.google.com/open?id=1a7Ldyf1Ip1v9YUgwlG7_nrc7TLCPcq3y PS - I also tried severing the binding with the soulbound dagger, and trying other weapons, still same thing. Also, Serefan is dual wielding the Thundercrack Pistol and an exceptional pistol and he fires twice in a row but the combat log indicates both shots get the Crackling Shot bonus not sure if this is normal, so I put a blunderbuss in the other hand opposite the Thunder Pistol, and he fired twice with the Thundercrack pistol ... so I am thinking it has to be a bug with dual wielding?? PSS - you should make the Skuldr's poison a lot stronger, it would make the underground city crazy fun ... sorry off topic ...
  11. Hey! Not sure there are bugs so I am posting them as questions. In 3.1 - I noticed while in combat: 1 - My dual weilding characters seems to attack with the same weapons multiple times in a row, I think I counted 3 times once - I am using two weapons that should be the same speed, so not sure why this was happening, any ideas? 2 - When using the Druid spell - "Taste of the Hunt" - even though I was missing my target I was still getting the healing benefits, can't remember if it was happening before, but I assume if you miss you shouldn't get the healing. 3 - I managed to get one of the Spirit/Spectre enemies in the Undercity of Neketaka to get stuck with Persistant Distraction - I am not sure the exact steps, but I was using Shadowing Beyond, went invisible, but the Spirit enemy used that ability where they teleport/take you to another part of the level - away from your companions - it still grabbed me even though I was invisible since it already targeted me, but when we landed it couldn't find me because I was invisible - lucky me, but then it had Persistant Distraction stuck on it - I wonder if it just grabbed me would it have had it stuck?? 4 - Oh, I think the poison attack the Skuldr use should be a lot stronger, it would take the Undercity too another level of difficulty!!! I am game hehehe!!! I think that was about it will update if I keep experiencing this stuff. Aaron
  12. Any idea if they have addressed changing some of the mechanics with in the Kingdom Management? Purchased the game and hope they get it all ironed out
  13. I would suggest PoTD with upscale: I don't think it is just Obsidian but all games lately I have played are pretty easy on the lower difficulties - including the DOS games, BG games etc...
  14. I don't know life is too short to go around assuming things about large swaths of people ... and about why Developers make the choices they do, but honest if you aren't getting what you want from games then step back, I went years without playing RPGs, and then when I find one that I like it gets me back into it and eventually I take a break again. I mean there is a lot going on outside of this and there are a lot of amazing people (probably more amazing people than the other). I mean I get your point with the internet but its funny I really can't complain about being able to look something up really quick, and hint books were pretty easy to get, they often put inserts into the game boxes promoting them and you could order them and get them pretty quick. My point was only that the idea of walkthroughs started pretty soon after the first RPGs, I can't say when but they definitely had them back in 1988, so blaming the internet is like blaming a cell phone ... As for me, it honest just depends on my mood whether I look up walkthroughs/hints or not, I tend to mostly solve them on my own because it is satisfying - but again I think the misconception about Deadfire being simplistic is because it took a step away from the normal RPG tropes of gameplay, and is doing something different with the way you approach. For good or bad it is still hella fun. Plus character building and combat is super above par ...
  15. Hey! Sending a crash report I had trying to enter the Gullet from Queens Berth, it was the exit near the Bardot manner. Only happened once. A few other issues I noticed: - I had a series of 3 scripted interactions in Neketaka happen one after the other in a row trying to get from Queens Berth to the Brass Citadel - which is not really a bug just strange They were in this order the preacher guy from Hosanago; some Principi selling a dog statue; and the fight where you kill the Skaldur and rescue the girl, and get the sword. - Kalakoth's Minor Blights, when I was using the spell it kept getting jammed on the ice and electricity blights, happened almost every time I cast it, haven't tested to see if it is with every character, it was with Maia when she was casting it. May test with a scroll and Serafan and will let you know. - I experienced a little bit of characters getting stuck in combat with certain abilities but more an annoyance and only happened when I was reloading a few times That's about it - mostly was playing Poko Kahora and some Neketaka, here is the crash report and a save game: https://drive.google.com/open?id=1J-ESgf_yatFKYGdMLn0JIRAguOq7jT3W Thanks!

  16. I think @xzar_monty is referring to a loss of agency that happened when RPGs switched from text-based interactions to multiple choice, and I feel you. Funny the comment about the internet hints and game walk-throughs - I mean they always existed, you just went to the bookstore and bought the hint book, or if you were really desperate you could write the developer lol I sent a letter to Origin once asking for the password to get into the Dungeon Deceit (it might have been a different dungeon actually but I think it was Deceit) and yes they wrote back I think if you like that type of gaming the first Divinty Original Sin has a lot of that but not so much the 2nd one - but personally these days I am not seeking them out in a game, they can be fun and rewarding but also annoying - I think gamers look online often because they are more interested in playing the other aspects of the game and not just because they can't solve the puzzle - I much more enjoy the character building, leveling up and outfitting my characters combined with a strong narrative, a cool world to explore and really good combat. I respect all the opinions about POE2 but I disagree about a lot of the narrative critiques. I find myself constantly entertained by the story and often pleasantly surprised by the great detail and breadth of character that they wrote into the plot - I don't mean character as in actors, but I mean the general character of the Deadfire, it has all the elements of a great story. I mean how can you hate pirates??? I am always for a good puzzle / riddle / multiple-choice-holddown-tab-zoom-in-on-every-wall-cast-every-spell-in-the-book on the altar until it glows style then pull the lever, whoops wrong one you died quest, but after playing the first Pillars that left them out and I really didn't miss them that much, so I am not missing them much in this game either. In terms of narrative, there is no way to argue that POE2 is a straightforward game from start to finish with little variety, choice or complicated decision making - or if you do I will disagree. Can Obsidian do better? I hope they can and they make a POE3 - I mean I am not against an even better narrative, an even better plot, and even better exploring, etc, maybe a puzzle or two but this game is good.
  17. In the bugs forum of course https://forums.obsidian.net/forum/130-pillars-of-eternity-ii-deadfire-technical-support-spoiler-warning/, you might want to share this thread too and mention what version you first experienced it and what version you are still experiencing it if you are running the beta. Also so I checked an old save and I did receive the Strand of Favor: Edit: Interesting though I just reloaded the area in 3.1 beta - and I didn't get he necklace but got an emerald instead, so maybe a fight is required now ...
  18. You all are awe Apologies - To clarify this has been reworded to reflect that this is reworked in the beta Good to hear and thank you!!!! and thank you!!!
  19. Is it trolling if that's how you honestly feel (so far at least)? Well havn't finished yet so can't really say for sure, I have read some critiques about the later game that I have yet to experience ...
  20. I think I did back at 1.1 or 1.2 ... can't remember can check a few old saves this weekend. AH
  21. POE2 is better than POE1(including expansions). Hehe ... Edit - sorry was trolling a little - haven't finished the entire game but so far I like it better
  22. I always thought the base game of POE was way better than both White March expansions - I was always slightly disappointed they introduced all the soulbound weapons and extra level abilities, not that it wasn't a great addition - but I really thought the base game was where ti was at in terms of story, gameplay and itemization. As for POE2 - I think the handholding is a misconception - sure it can give you the answer in seconds, but there is always another way and the fun isn't that you have to find the other way, but that if you spend time exploring and searching it becomes evident - they just added simplicity for those who just want to roll on through. I would trade puzzles for the type of in-depth quest narrative and decisions making that the franchise offers, I haven't played Beasts of Winter - but I will add that POE2 reminds me of the White March more than it reminds me of the base game ... in terms of the way the areas are structured and the more fantasy/god orientated characters / quests / magic weapons - its just that POE2 is better
