  1. Wait, this actually happened? xD Can someone link me? That didn't have anything to do with Deadfire, that was a general example that's happened before within the industry (as in other games, unrelated to Deadfire/Obsidian.)
  2. It will be the System Shock we never wanted...
  3. So you don't have a good reason to assume these DLCs were cut content? Would you agree or disagree that different aspects of game development finish at different stages in the development cycle, freeing up some of the development team before the game is released? When did I say they were? I said there's NO way to prove if they are or aren't. There's no reason (right now) for anyone to assume the dlc's are comprised of cut content or not. In other words, both sides of the argument are faulty at best. I really dislike this widespread narrative that every single piece of extra content that comes out for any game nowadays is "cut content". At best, it's just harmless internet blather. At worst, it's taking a giant dump on the creative efforts of great many people just because someone in charge had, maybe, perhaps, the gall to draft and/or plan some concepts in advance. That's not cut content, that's just good development practice. I can't recall who, but one of the posters in this thread (I think, I have a terrible memory, and these outraged topic titles tend to blur in my mind) correctly pointed out that developing video games is a process that involves multiple tempos. Writers typically conclude their work earlier than some other members of the development team. It's really not a stretch to imagine that they may be directed to brainstorming DLC ideas while the main product is still in the oven. EDIT: I mean, how is, say, Carrie Patel going to contribute to fixing bugs? What is she supposed to be doing in that time? Streaming her playthroughts of Arcanu--no, wait, that's Chris Avellone. Exactly. We don't really know what variables are going on within the company, what it changing. It's uncommon for developers to gain or lose people in the middle of a project or while in development (usually they wait) but it does happen and when it does, fresh minds bring about new ideas. Other variables consists of focus, but I'm not going to say that one applies here because Deadfire's development process hasn't been focused or is constantly shifting focus in certain aspects. On the other hand, I think it's strange for any community to deny that story dlc is cut-content, specifically when a dev says in an interview "We wanted to put this in the base game but didn't have a chance or ran out of time. So we wanted to refine it" That's a nice way of saying it was cut-content. We'll just have to wait to see exactly what Obsidian says about the dlc specifics in order to form a wholesome conclusion.
  4. Is there a good reason to imagine these DLCs were cut content? If so, what is it? If not, why suggest it? I don't know, I'm not on the Obsidian development team so I cannot really say if there is or not (as I imagine is the case is for every other member as well), perhaps it would be best for someome to ask Obsidian employees on the next Q&A stream. There is always the pretty weak outlook of "It wasn't cut content, it was content they wish they could have put in but didn't have the time to do so, so they made it into dlc later" that we see on forums usually try to justify cut-content with. That in itself proves the community is not so easy at accepting these things. Thing is that cut content is often looked at as a negative thing but there are so many reasons why cut content can be a positive thing too. It really depends on the situation, the game and the writing.
  5. Hey! They added full VO which nobody here saw coming, maybe they'll add eye-tracking too
  6. Yeah, I have no problem with a game having "meaningless" dlc like outfits, weapons, etc. Many of the community do not realize that meaningless doesn't necessarily mean they can't be good. In fact, if a story is long enough, I'd much rather have purely aesthetic dlc options/packages than more story dlc. I'm one of those people As for the argument of "purposely left out" content to be sold at a later date, there's no really way to prove or disprove that theory since we are behind closed doors.
  7. I think I've said this before on another thread but I usually play games (the ones that allow you to create characters) as a female character, though I'm male in real life. I'm pretty masculine and never wanted to be a female but I think it's fun to get to be a female character in a video game, I try to make them nice to look at, no use in having a male character that I don't think is cool looking or a female character that I don't think is attractive... That all probably sounds shallow but it isn't, it's really up to the devs to hive us the tools to create what we want or deem as acceptable. I am pretty picky about what characters I really like in games and in a way, it kknda speaks to how picky I am about who or what kind of people I'm drawn to in real life. Who fo we portray ourselves as? We are playing in an imaginary world so might as well play to our strengths in that regard. When is skimpy too skimpy? There's kinda a point where it becomes ridiculous, I've seen streamers having their characters run around the whole game in underwear, didn't find that funny or attractive in any way. I suppose there is a balance and a good skimpy/sexy. Self control is hard for some. I don't think I've ever played a game where I didn't try to create my character cool looking or attractive. Being stuck to a character throughout the whole game is kinda like a marriage, you don't want to settle for something you're not 100% happy with. So there's no shame in working an hour on an attractive face for a character alone and even more time on the body. It is rewarding to have a character who looks good in all armors and clothing too lol It tskes work but it's worth it! To give you an idea on what isn't too skinpy for me: 2b from Nier Automata, Bayonetta, Fury from Darksiders 3. Ivy from Soul Calibur is kinda pushing the limit for me personally. I mean, I wouldn't create a character and dress them like her lol
  8. I agree. Would love to see an Arcanum 2 rather than Tyranny 2 or PoE3. We are at a great time to recover lost Crpg franchises so... they should take advantage of that fact.
  9. You won't be able to get that Divinity Original Sin 2 necrophi feel, sadly. It would probably be more watered down Diablo-like Necrophi powers.
  10. Ahhh, it doesn't say when members join on my phone, only how many posts of late. Perhaps, they will enjoy the welcoming anyway
  11. Hoping for Necro-Armor looking sets Divinity II Draco Econis had some of my favorite designs. I love those cool wacky armors that just look cool. Kings of Amulet was another one that had some awesome armors. Of course Todd McFarlane was involved. Pillars 1 was lacking but who knows, we may see more f this in Deadfire. Alot of people think "What looks cool can't necessarily be done because it's not practical or realistic" actually, cool armor is practical and realistic but because it's rare, some see it as not. Sadly, it gets set aside because of that myth. I'd like to see more!
  12. Yes, it's not the CoD forum where the members are worried more about gameplay and obsessing reaching higher stats and leveling up instead of graphics and glam. But I too, want more lore of religion as that's pretty much one of the most important things in the Pillars world to begin with and will play an even bigger role in Deadfire I'm sure (since that what the beginning is based of anyway). Forgot to add that I'm also looking forward to the map, exploring it and what have you.
  13. If this video is any indication... Then ummmm... NO. But maybe Obsidian will see this and add it in just for you There's always hope! Btw, WELCOME to the forums
  14. One of my favorite things about the Pillars series is that it has much emphasis on religion but I'd love to see this idea as well.
  15. I'm looking forward to: -Sailing the open sea (bummer, there's only one) -Penetrating purewood vessels -New Stealth Mechanics -Bar hopping -Multiclassing -My pet!!! What I want: -More elves, less dwarves -Expanded ship and crew functions/mechanics -More emphasis and lore on religion What I don't want: -Emphasis on blunderbusses, need more bows and crossbi -Beards, cuz if you can't have a pretty beard (as in nicely rendered) then why have a beard at all? -Poor console sales like the first game I think that covers it hehe
  16. Same exact thoughts here, it's like we are the same person!!!! Melee weapons are my go to and magic items just up the fun :D
  17. Agreed. 2D sprites really do look great. Same with pixel art, I find that Hi-Res peixel art and hand-drawn arts are my favorite graphics. Hi-Res sprites from games in recent years are beautiful as well (mainly found in fighting games)
  18. I try not to think that members here represent the Pillars fan-base as a whole because it's mainly the same 30 members or so who comment in each section of the forum. While one can argue "If they're a real fan, they'd be here" but that's never been the case in reality, most fans will never get on this forum (even to look) and most backers - even the most elite, will never get on here either. I'm just stating the logic reasoning here... What is my point? Hopefully nobody gets offended bit in other words, I, myself cannot say I represent a larger base and I also cannot take anyone here seriously who says "Crpg fanbase favors more text and/or partial voice overs" Okay well, it's as I already explained, there are many many more Crpg players (new generation of fans) today than there ever were in the 90's/00's. So that obviously tips the scale to full VO favor for the fanbase of full VO. All that aside, the reason I prefer full VO in any case is because these old eyes have seen many things and could rest a bit. Thus, such things as voice acting can be pleasant, even if mediocre at best, we'll all settle for that and embrace it. Besides, this is Obsidian, so..... We'll see if the game's better than the first when it comes out and how many will even mention the VO in their reviews and how it changes the game
  19. I find myself thinking about characters and their stories when I'm away from the pc or games I play... but addiction comes in many shapes and forms. Your bodies require stimulus from games you play in order to finction in certain ways (chemical degeneration and rehabilitation). This is what makes gaming one of the boggest addictions that the world struggles with, up there with hardcore drugs.
  20. Hello! Welcome to the forums I don't think we shall be able to preload unfortunately, at least I haven't heard anything yet.
  21. If I had to call out any one individual game to have the worst VO (or voice acting) in history I'd say Outcast is the one...
  22. Exactly but I was only comparing Elder Scrolls games to each other, as their high points and low points as individuals When I say Capcom bad VO I mean.. When I say Bioware... I agree for Witcher 3 being the standard for the action rpg genre but as far as the industry as a whole, that may be debatable.
