I don't think tailing missions are fun in any game lol I'm not sure why devs keep injecting them into open world games. A simple cut-scene would suffice but... filler. It's a shame that they didn't work on the driving physics. At least Watch Dogs 2 and Just Cause 3 improved upon its predecessors.

It's also on Steam for the same price >:-F -
Very true. The development process is often regarded by the developers as "long" but rarely is it ever regarded to as "hard"... Unless, that is if the developers faced aot of problems (people didagreeing, people coming in and going out, people who are having medical issues, technical issues). None of these things are normal while working on a project - though I can see how some people here may see it as normal, I mean, if a person only follows games where development have only ever been a bad experience for developers, then that's all they will think. Game development in the industry is usually said to be fun. Quality games are only out of love, passion and happiness. Being content with a project is key. Being uncertain and losing vision can break the product and company. Development hell isn't normal, it's sad to hear though. You completely misunderstood my meaning Okay. If you don't mind me asking, what did you mean? The point of my wall of text (or as other members might call "babbling") was that Obsidian bit off more than what they could chew. This isn't how things normally go down, even in the development of games we are not let into and we are seeing the struggle in the balancing nw and how they are going about fixing it. This was just a price of the game being too ambitious?

We shall see what the reviewers and critics make of it. Their opinions are probably more important than backers and fan boys (like myself) since their opinions are not so tainted and reasoning is more sound - for they have no attachments to Obsidian or the game itself. So far, seems like more and more backers are becoming upset about things, just as you but we won't knw how widely these systems are accepted til the game has been officially been released.

@Mannock Exactly right. It's safe to say that the Obsidian community will always be divided, that isn't to say that one side is any more discredited than the other. In most cases, the less popular is treated as so but oh well, this is one of the lesser trafficked forums among gaming communities so if one is looking to have their vouce heard to the public, it's not exactly the best place. Correct, it's silly for any side to believe that their side is correct, especially when it's the same 5 or 6 people arguing on every thread on any given subject. There's never a "victory", it's usually a mess of a thread going on for pages and ultimately winding up in petty insults and blind fire when one of the sides runs out of ideas. If a group of passionate people feel like they have to gang up to defend their point against one of two people, it doesn't mean that they are the majority (since this part of the forum doesn't have many active members anyway)... Despration calls for act. But then it's just down to everyone's "experience" and how they "feel" and whatnot. And thereby it's just down to subjective interpretations which will be all over the place since there are as many opinions as there are players. Some will say rogue is the best and some will say rogue is the worst. A discussion of balance becomes meaningless if there is no common ground to agree upon.As always, the rpg crowd is hardest to please. Everyone's experience is different, nobody will agree 100% because ultimately they have their own idea of what "balance" should be. And these threads is a great example of that. There are so many threads right now about how screwed up the balancing is, then there is the opposing force who are doing everything they can to justify it. Realistically, if there are that many complaining about, Obsidian will see this as something turning out wrong. The devs are going to read the thread by the OP themselves, but smart enough to stay away from reading the comments to avoid the atrocious comment wars.

Shadow Of War ditches micro-transactions... smh. -
True. It really ruined some things, now Obsidian is scattered so close at launch. For me, it's kinda painful to see, as a backer. I'm praying for a miracle that all will turn out well but given Obsidian's past hiccups upon release, this just might be their messiest one yet (sadly). I just wanted the best for the game and for Obsidian make it the best that it can be. When I backed the game, I saw a focused vision, a steady goal and a sure plan to get ther. Josh and the team seemd so confident, but I never imagined the road to be so... rocky? Perhaps this is the common shortcomings of developing such games of magnitude in the industry, I don't know but launch date strikes the match a little closer and closer every day. While we twiddle our thumbs and wait for a what could be rushed product... or maybe it will actually be okay. Things that make you go... "Hmmmm"
-
True both are at risk right now, especially when comparing to the first game. If we're being real, this wasn't expected by the player-base/backers but should have been. In any game, the more ambitious it is, the more trouble there is bound to be (this isn't an excuse). I'm really hoping everything doesn't go south quickly after launch.... Everyone has been disagreeing on how the game should be balanced so I really hope that Obsidian plays it smart and instead of listening to the fans, just go with their heart and make the game a better game. That is the only thing that needs to happen here.

Yeah, I would have really enjoyed Just Cause 3 had it not been for the super poor support, optimization issues and wonky physics that kill you for... jumping at random times. There was just alot of strange issues. At one point, it just wouldn't start up on either of my 2 pc's. It was a mess at launch and as they patched it, it's only gotten worse. I'm the type of guy that likes open world games, I admit I have a few open world games I think open world and linear games both offer their own strengths and weaknesses. Essentially, there's the common misconception of "Linear is always better because it's more planned/put together" which isn't true. There are open world games just as focused as the more focused linear games out there. We have many examples of this. I'm suddenly in the mood to play Saints Row 2 now lol -

I wouldn't say Far Cry 2 is amazing by any means or all that better than the other Far Cry games... just more different. The first game is still better in some ways. Each Far Cry has it's equal share of problems but the most thought out game is definitely the first game (the only one non-Ubisoft). It just offers a more wholesome feeling than the others. I really wish that CryTek never stopped developing the games just to see how different the games would be today. Same goes for the Just Cause series and the new Tomb tRaider games. Staying in the safe zone is the developers comfort space for success. The last mind-blowing fps I can remember playing, in all honesty, is Halo on the OG Xbox. Half Life, Far Cry, Metro and other games didn't have any huge affect on how I looked at games or played them but the first Halo did. That being said, I didn't care to play the other Halo games and it's very rare for an fps to impact me. As far as sandbox games, there's only one sandbox game that I feel does "sandbox" right and it's not even open world. It's a prison simulation game called The Escapists 2 where you have more freedom than any rpg or open world gives (oddly) so that's my reasoning for placing it above those other types of sandbox games. -

It's basically the Kingdom Come Deliverance of FPS lol Dares to be different. -
You're absolutely correct... And they're bringing Might back so guaranteed that the balance will be even more screwed up. If I had to guess, the first few months after launch will be treated as playtesting for balance, I think we all realize it (would be crazy if members here said otherwise). I expect Deadfire to have many many patches, gigabytes worth. And some people will be angry that Obsidian will keep changing these things.
-
True, the balance of Deadfire pertaining to classes has been off for some time which is why there are so many threads with members recognizing the balancing issues across any nature in the game. Hopefully they resolve the matter soon but I agree that there will be major balancing changes after launch. It may even be big enough changes to qualify se for labeling it as Early-Access-like. This is what happens when so many changes are introduced in such a short time. A bit more than they could chew off. Hoping for the best though.
