RANDOM VIDEO GAME NEWS - VISUAL NOVELS ALLOWED
SonicMage117 replied to Blarghagh's topic in Computer and Console
It's an overexaggeration that people (journalists and YouTubers) are blowing out of proportion. The Sony CEO who stated that also stated today that a PS5 won't even show up til 2020 or later so PS4 isn't close to ending. I think thi was a talk of hardware design rather than specific life cycle in general. -

One thing? Your position is that the only thing the game does right is graphics? I said "one thing" not to be confused with "only one thing" The statement was to be taken as a broad/loose general observation and not literal or provocation. -

The game does one thing right... You can just sit and look pretty, the game is a delight for sore eyes Unfortunately, beauty is only screen-deep. -

I think you're talking about stuff like Wal-Mart, Gamestop and Amazon pre-orders. The big places who even occasionally list games that don't exist - of course Amazon list that it doesn't even know when Spiderman PS4 and Detroit are coming out so it doesn't take pre-orders for them lol But I'm talking about the actual developer website featuring pre-order vendors with confirmed pre-order bonuses and tv/youtube ads. We'll see though, I may be wrong, maybe it's a year round hype. My sneaking suspicion is that the game is near it's polishing stages, it will have a game play demo, be playable on the show floor and reveal a release date for November-ish. It just doesn't make sense for them to put money into this heavy marketing if they didn't already know the date was soon and sometime this year. At this point, I wouldn't be surprised if they did something at E3 like "Rage 2 will be available tomorrow". -

So... I noticed that everyone's saying Rage 2 will be released in Q2-Q4 of 2019 but that doesn't make sense. Not only is pre-order for the game up on the official site and official box art confirmed but pre-order bonuses have been confirmed and I already saw video ads on youtube for it. My guess is a few months and we'll have Rage 2! I still can't get over how cool it looks :D -
Good point to why this (resting) is the poorest of all systems in the old IE games. Which is why games aren't really doing this tedious system anymore. It's a design flaw that was somehow uplifted by the community into something it really wasn't - for nostalgic reasons. Ever since, the rest of us (even people like myself who realized this was a flaw when the games first released in the 90's) still must suffer for it. Like I said, fortunately this system is dying in rpg's and crpg's alike. Thank God. Modern rpg's don't go for this crap and that's just one more thing that keeps IE inspired games from growing more than niche, ancient and outdated mechanics will keep the game from evolving while the rest of the world gets better. It's not immersive but older players will argue that too because that cultic mind of "That's how we grew up with it so that's how it should be and that makes it more immersive". Crap. Let's make this system extinct and make future Pillars Of Eternity games better!!! There are systems more refined, sad that Obsidian is cheapening the experience, shame on you Obsidian!!! If you couldn't tell, I've always hated resting systems. p.s The "authentic D&D/IE experience" excuse is rendered irrelevant when you realize how many other systems are modernized or uninspired. That is all.
-
Tradition, if not anything else. I wish we could get rid of resting in Crpg's as a whole and when I say that I know people will probably think "Well we're glad you're not developers" Fear not though, these old systems will become extinct sooner or later. Ancient systems such as these really have no use anymore.

I do agree with the thing said about sales being successully different to the company than it is in a fan's eyes. That's why it's hard for me to believe that Deadfire was a success or will be in the long run. Like I said, too many rpg's and other games coming out, big titles, E3 is around the corner - perhaps Obsidian knew this and that's why they chose May for release. All companies have the sam mindset because all companies are a business, nothing to do if a project is funded by the community vs a publisher. That doesn't matter. Do you actually think or believe that the game has a chance at doing well during or after E3? You guys may say that the audience is much niche compared to D:OS and by that logic, you will be saying "No." Whether you want to or not. Not only that but non-rpg fans will pass Deadfire even with the pirate ship pic as a marketing tool. Think on those veggie chips for a few seconds... or better yet, you tell me why it will sell when it has no reason to after E3. What? When the dlc releases? Yes I'm mad, and even more worried for Obsidian's success with this as if you couldn't already tell. Meh.. *kicks dirt like an adult trucker or factory/construction worker* As far as a variable difference of comparison, D:OS1 and 2 will always do well in future sales. Thus sales longevity isn't a problem. For Pillars, it's a bit different, without adding the factor that the game is pretty much guaranteed to fail (but they are still doing it anyway), we can speculate but can we penerate? That's where I draw the line for such unreasonable things. I don't think the excitement of the dlc will pick up sales in the future. As someone else said, most people wo wanted Deadfire most likely picked it up already. The current sales matter not, it's the future sales that are the bigger picture here. Tsk tsk... maximum risk, didn't mean to pop anyone's zit or seem so negative with it.

Yakuza will be at E3.... -
I believe both DOS and DOS2 are turn based, right? That would make them much easier to play on a console. Larian actually ended up doing more work on the console version of D:OS1. They revamped the U.I, added textures, remapped everything to controller and added full voice acting. This version only came later to pc known as the "Enhanced Edition" those who already had the original got the enhanced edition free, though they call the original the "Classic Edition". I don't believe they sell it any longer though (perhaps they do).

Steamspy is still the most accurate way to tell things at the moment, I mean, it's different now but still alot more accurate than listening to someone on a forum say "Well we don't really know what the sales are so no." Vs someone saying "We have at least some information on where abouts." Some info is better than none, we're are looking at it as false or inaccurate when it's now partial information. Let's stay in a season of reason. Being a top seller this month on Steam, GoG or anywhere els is not a victory or an accomplishment. Look at what's slightly behind and in front if it. Do you see it now? Do you? Now go fetch me a 7up, I'm feeling kinda down. Deep down, I think most of us knew it would go this way - Even with th pirate ship looking cover being used as a marketing tool. Even more interesting though, Divinity: Original Sin 1 was a HUGE seller on consoles. While PoE1 is one of te worst selling console games of this generation. How are we to excuse that? It's not like one catered to console games more than the other or like one had better marketing than the other. In fact, PoE1 had slightly better marketing on console....So...Something to think about..If you like to think, that is. And that concludes the thread. For I, SonicMage have spoken and my words are not a joke but to be heeded with majestic purpose! If not, then you shall feel the wrath of my magic missile ;)

Abraham Lincoln: Zombie Hunter, one of the better titles this year eh.
-
Originally I thought Dradfire would have a harder time because there were big titles coming out in May but those titles got pushed back so there wasn't much competition to begin with (I'm not tlaking about Crpg's but just big games in general). So seeing how less of competition that Deadfire had compared to D:OS1 and 2, the variables are quite different. I think that's what separates that success and trophy factor. Since this year has some huge games coming out (from June to November), I'm curious to see if the longevity of full price sales will hold a candlestick to D:OS1 or 2 sales. We shall see, do you agree? Yes, yes, I know you all do

Steamspy is unreliable ever since it cannot scrape steam accounts. Why and how exactly would that make Steamspy inaccurate or unreliable? If anything, that would make it more accurate and reliable... If you're talking about it mistaking family sharers and leech/idling accounts as actual owners, it doesn't. Otherwise I'd like to see appropriative proof of this "Steampy being inaccurate or unreliable". Anyhoot, I imagine the sales have drastically slowed by now compared to launch. We are nearing the end of the month and unlike D:OS2 which is still selling well and being talked about, I think people will forget about Deadfire (sadly). Plus we got alot of big tittles popping out in June.

*Sigh....* You missed the point of my post, it was to prevent people from trying to excuse or justify the game's poor ship mechanics with the fact that they were also intended as a mobile stronghold. My comment wasn't calling out anyone specific? It's something called reading between the lines. I see, so anyone who disagrees with your point obviously has no idea what they're talking about and needs to pay attention to the game more.... because even when pointing out things with reasonable logic, they're still wrong if their outlook doesn't lineup with your opinion. Smh. I'm not sure what makes you assume I'm a beginner in D&D/IE style games or what old games have to do with these new ship systems and mechanics have to do with the origins of other mechanics and systems that aren't well connected enough. Not sure if you realized it but I actually backed the game and have alot of experience in not on the first PoE1 game but classic IE games such as Icewind Dale, Baldurs Gate, etc. I would be willing to bet my life that I know more than you on the subject but fail to see how that off-topic remark is irrelevant to this conversation anyway. Lastly, no, I disagree, people aren't "whining" or "complaining" here, just giving critical feedback that I know Obsidian already realises themselves. It's not because they aren't good at the game or don't underatand how it works, not sure where that mentality comes from, the game isn't complex - especially the stripped down ship mechanics. You obviously haven't read the comments too carefully, the game's difficulty has nothing to do with it, it's the lack of mechanics and polish. Just because you can settle with something done passibly or poorly, doesn't mean those who have something meaningful to say on the subject are somehow lesser than you. In fact, those who speak out and are honest about the game's shortcomings are the ones who truly care about the game and want ot to be the best game possible. Just saying.

Ermm... Hmmmm....... Pascal's Village........ You see, It's not Everquest I spoke of, but the Electronic Entertainment Expo, which is an event held every year which announces and shows off new games. It's like the Superbowl for gaming.
