The Most Lousy Jedi Ever
Sabahattin Dere replied to Sabahattin Dere's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
Because perhaps the one who put up the list hasn't yet played TSL; and all this therefore qualifies as spoilers? -

er....this is starting to (!) sound like spoilers, perhaps??? -
The Shabbiest Sith
Sabahattin Dere replied to Sabahattin Dere's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
what was also off-putting was that those Jedi never even descended into the planet to confront him, they hovered above the planet in their cosy spaceships, did some 'meditation' --but Exar had already eloped. It did take so many Jedi to make him surrender but that was not to equal his power; he was *overwhelmed*, not equalled by those many Jedi. -
The Most Lousy Jedi Ever

Another easter egg sort of thing is I think the cash register 'clinggg' sound that you hear as Mace Windu beats those evil droids..... -

No it would be: Sku'bi Dhu -

If I had played TSL I'd have more to say

forthcoming list: The shabbiest Sith

The point is still that people 'convert' or 'transform' into dark side beings; whole planets may be imbued with 'evil energy' and so on. That's even sillier than Lucas's moral tale. before you start bashing the anti-SW blasphemer let me repeat that I do enjoy all this stuff and think it's a good diversion. When TSL comes out I'll dedicate dozens of hours into it, and already have spent much more than that, into films and comics. **What I'm trying to stress is that seriously brooding on SW -including questions as to continuity and the integrity of a universe, etc.- are pointless.**

Nothing in Star Wars in meant to be coherent or even make sense so it's a mistake to treat it as a consistent 'universe' in the first place. In games you have the ultimate badass warriors because that's what gamers want to play with. Let alone discrepancies between games and movies, within the 'gaming' genre itself there are inconsistencies thanks to the screwed up levels system. In comics you have the most banal displays of power because it seems that's what fans like and it's all possible to illustrate on paper so -why not? One deeply banal aspect both of games and comics is that being 'good' or 'evil' is no longer a matter of deliberate action and choice (not even in the childish understanding of Lucas) but depends on freely swaying 'dark energies', 'light energies' and so on. How did Exar Kun corrupt his Jedi companions? Ultimately by some holocron energy right? Making evil zombies using crystals is an imbecile notion. Vader's 'fall' is a much better written story compared to the crap that happens to Kun and Qel Droma. ....poisoned into the dark side?????.....the parody of the parody of a parody In the OT films you had far too many limitations as to effects, fights, etc. so that's why they turned out the way they did. Back then they had tremendous difficulty even to get Yoda feel a little more than a muppet: Today fans devote endless hours debating whether yoda is 'above lightsabers' because in the prequels, unlike the OT, BLA BLA BLA..... It's all fluffy fantasy; and the greatest Sith Lord of all times is Lucas himself at the head of his 'empire of dreams'. Many people need such fluffy fantasy to relax a little and detract from daily worries but.....perhaps the key word is moderation: 1) This is not science fiction 2) It's not literature 3) It's not really 'myth' either 4) It's not meant to have *any* depth in *any* of its aspects. .....There's no SW universe, there is SW MERCHANDISE......

I Can't Wait For...
Sabahattin Dere replied to Bastilla_Skywalker's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
to me it will be a cathartic experience, just as Kotor was. I'll entirely sever my ties with this world and spend a couple of days literally living another life in another galaxy. so what I'm looking forward to is....flowing robes, eh... -
The List of Continuity Mistakes
Sabahattin Dere replied to Darth Nuke's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
great thread but can you open it under another forum? I'll drop by to see the complete list once I -ahem- get to play the game. -
New Knights VS the Old knights 2
Sabahattin Dere replied to LordNihilis's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
the exact point that I made about Luke becoming the new apprentice because Vader was not sufficient is part of Lucas's own dvd-commentary. You're right about the first point, it's wrong to call it an 'inconsistency'. ...but judging by Alec Guiness's sword skills it must have been more than the vigor of young age that he lost in the meantime :D -
New Knights VS the Old knights 2
Sabahattin Dere replied to LordNihilis's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I'm convinced that it was truly Supershadow who invented the concept, and not Lucas. Or maybe Supershadow is the alter-ego of Lucas. anyhow; nothing in Star Wars in meant to be coherent or even make sense so it's a mistake to treat it as a consistent 'universe' in the first place. In SW-computer games you have the ultimate badass warriors because that's what gamers want to play with; in comics you have the most banal displays of power because that's what fans like and it's all possible to draw; in the OT films you had far too many limitations as to effects, fights, etc. so that's why they turned out the way they did. New Knights VS the Old knights 2
Sabahattin Dere replied to LordNihilis's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
yes that's the assumption that absolves Lucas from some inconsistencies: Q: Why is the ep.IV Vader-Ben duel so lame in comparison to the later bombastic lightsaber sequences? A: Oh, Obi Wan was an old man and Vader was...half machine, so.... Q: Why does Palpatine want Luke as a new apprentice? A: Vader was a disappointment in that being half machine ne never realized his full potential, so..... Probably it was due to a decrease in his midichlorian count that he became so weak. " " -
the JOURNEY or the ENDING
Sabahattin Dere replied to bodrock's topic in Star Wars: General Discussion
I guess this obsession with the ending dates back from the days of Commodore 64 where in an entire game the only decent full screen graphic art you ever got to see was the final screen or sequence. You literally beat the entire game just to see that. Or maybe this doesn't make sense. Anyway. -
How do you make Jedis?

Thanks to all the reviewers that give hope to those waiting until Feb.!

You have a point here; but SW's hyperspace ships leak gas, need to be punched in the panel to get to work, no one ever needs a life support system in alien environments and moves around as if it's their home planet, no single amount of thought goes into how a lightsaber 'works' at all -all we know is that there is a crystal, well, of course there is one..... Some of the EU could be considered sci-fi in so far as it makes an effort to understand how the technology works, or seriously makes 'thought-experiments' in galactic politics, alien biology, etc. --the films are no way near that; every futuristic bit is a cool gimmick for Lucas and that's it. When the EU wants to build on that, it's another story. BUT still at the core of it, it's all *fantasy*, I believe. One example that I can think of is that in the films, hyperspace travel is only a cool visual effect -in the TotJ comics we see some effort to explain what interstellar exploration could entail, how the pioneers would have established routes through uncharted space, how a political system can be built on that, etc. --that does come near sci-fi; but Han Solo's ship doesn't.
