  1. I think that's a good idea but one difficulty is that in games with hyper-climaxes like the level 20 Revan defetaing Malak to become the supreme Sith Lord, what motivation could there be left to go back to a planet and talk to people? And being based on somewhat epic storylines, SW games seem to need to have those hyper-climaxes.
  2. That will allow you to have 4 drives When dvd-r standards become settled and dvd-writers' prices drop, the CDs-era will come to an end. I have to keep making backups of loads of cds because I don't want to carry the originals around; it's a big frustration to have to write 700mbs at a time whereas you could take the files or the cd-images and stuff many inside a single dvd -besides the amount I pay for the CD-Rs could actually buy me a DVD-writer. So the moment dvd-writers are available at around $30 I'll jump at it.
  3. There used to be a huge thread on this same subject; just check the past pages. Back then on the poll the majority of the members voted for DVD. I'm in favor of both CD and DVD releases; not too long ago, companies not only had to release the same game in various media such as 5.25 or 3.5 floppies, 'cartridges', later CDs -but also in several hugely different platforms: on the Amiga, the PC, C-64, Atari, several early consoles etc. A Both CD-DVD release will 1)encourage some users to buy DVD drives, making them gradually more widespread, 2)Justify (!) the DVD drives of those who already have one 3)Won't place CD-only users under any difficulty if they don't want to buy a new drive just for one game. It seems it won't be before games will start taking 35 CDs that users and companiers will consider 'converting to' DVD.
  4. Besides the idea of the Christ is so deeply engraved in western culture and art that one may find himself making allusions to Jesus without even being aware of it; anything which barely touches upon the themes "the chosen one", "self sacrifice" or in a roundabout way "redemption" will eventually end up drawing a lot from Jesus.
  5. I think SW is an arbitrary brew of references which often gets over-interpreted. Lucas's only concern is to ensure the flow of his light-epic-entertainment; none of his references or allusions are meant to have any 'depth' or anything. I repeat that SW is 'looking' at cool space apparel against a simple -I would say banal- theme, and to get *pure entertainment* -and that's it. If you look at his sketches: The lightsaber was at first he weapon of the imperial stormtroopers -then he thought sword fighting harkens to an age of 'nobility' and decided to assign that only to the Jedi. Add on top of that the other allusions: The robes look Japanese; Yoda is certainly the parody of a taoist monk. It reminds us of the Samurai. Perhaps Lucas reads on the Samurai so he added another detail or two, 'inspired' by that -fine. What we have is the already obvious similarity. On to watching the sword duel -now that Lucas has better fight scene coreographers, he can borrow more from eastern sword styles; not due to any deeper affinity with samurai values, but because those are the ones that look coolest. 'The Force' appears to derive superficially from Taosim -but we need not look for any mythical references to 'understand' the light-dark schism -it's only a banal theme. If you look at the ep.III behind the scene videos, the character designing stage goes like this: Long before he has finalized a first draft of the script, he tells the art department "Design for me the most fearsome guy in the galaxy". The folks work day and night, make their drawings and post them on a board waiting for GL to show up at the deadline date. He comes with a stamp in hand; and stamps 'approved' on the designs that he likes. Eventually he comes to like one design better than the others and invents a back-story to it: He likes the fact that the design for Grievous has 'animal eyes on a robot' and decides that it's an alien cyborg. Then he goes on to elaborate slightly on that idea, and once he knows how the fights will take place, the desired effect is rapidly produced. ---Only later do fans begin to wonder what this choice of an 'alien cyborg' means and since they are able to associate everything within this so-called 'universe', they can rapidly make up very systematical accounts of what that "meaning" could be, coherently within the 'universe'. That is it's only the fans' craving for coherence that things get attributed on Lucas's arbitrary signs. So what I'm saying is that SW isn't science-fiction; let's just enjoy ourselves with things like the buzz of lightsabers, Yoda's funny language, etc.
  6. Philosophy student, Undergrad. (sounds like an address from Russia)
  7. Of course the reasons for the LS-Male choice are obvious as many have pointed out. But: What I find intriguing about a 'single K1 outcome' is whether the consequences of all other K1 endings boil themselves down to the LS-Male ending by default, and maybe very hastily, in the K2 designer's vision of the inter-episode events and/or the events at the beginning of K2.....
  8. I wonder: Why not Random?
  9. No....there is another... a member named Dark Wanderer, he was. Visits he no longer, the forums.
  10. I believe it was confirmed (in a preview maybe?) earlier that the very first question about Revan that the player faces concerns whether R. was female or male -these new questions that have been revelaed obviously follow that.
  11. the first in-game shots of Nihilis...They'll have to make him as imposing as he looks on the concept art otherwise it will be a guy under black sheets with a little plastic mask on.
  12. If Adria Teksuni were here this topic would have been closed a week ago
  13. Not really -There was a case of twice-baked ignorance on the previous pages; someone trying to justify his ignorance of the Dutch by saying something along the lines of "do something special and we'll have heard about you". Several centuries of 'special things' weren't enough, it seems.
  14. Yes I find it utterly unbearable in Turkish too; just to save a couple of vowels they rape the language. When I enter a message on the mobile phone, if only to state my position against this, I write long sentences, fully punctuated.
  15. What I'm saying is that mastering a second language in a writing-oriented manner makes it more difficult to attain similar fluency in speech. I know people whose English "you wouldn't be able to tell", in writing, from the highest literary styles mastered by the best educated 'natives' --but, surprise surprise: When it comes to rapid thinking-speech, then all of a sudden you see a decrease in vocabulary, resorting to simpler sentence forms, etc. If your understanding of having a concern to develop an advanced command of grammar is that it is an excuse to not knowing enough slang, then you're probably talking in terms of daily 'practical' language; and about that, yes, you're right, practice does allow fluency.
  16. Not everyone on these boards is the same age; I believe one could expect a 25 year old non-native English speaker with considerable writing-reading experience behind him to have a better command of the language, compared to a 13 year old native speaker. In any case, one area where the non-native will hardly match the native speaker is that of spoken language which is always more difficult to thoroughly master as a second language. I for one would have had much less to say if these forums were 'spoken' as opposed to just written.
  17. I thought Kotor 2 was highly anticipated in Turkey; I seem to be the only one around here.
  18. I used: "Gerzek Hamdi" which means, "Hamdi the Retarded" in Turkish. In other words by choosing a silly name, I was punishing myself for spending hours on a game while heaps of work awaited.... This time I'll choose an even sillier one.
  19. I suppose, next you'll show us his dental x-ray
  20. Earlier I had proposed the following parallelism for the final fight: Qui-Gon: Atris Obi-Wan: The Player D. Maul: MSG
  21. he does look sort of evil....I could be mis-remembering
  22. This is a good guy; the chancellor of a republic planet I believe. A friend showed me some documentary stuff from the making of the movie and there was a small part on the design of the guys' costume -If I'm remembering correctly, that's where I heard that he was a pro-republic politician
  23. err.. no one's going to open that file if you insist on the 763k bmp
  24. funny how he 'swings' the saber like a baseball bat we'll hear a lot of sinister laughter coming out of that ugly mouth; that's for sure
