What i dont get is the idea that If money wasn’t spent on full VO, another feature would complete itself. I would certainly prefer more fleshed out sidekicks or even one full companion instead of full VO. I would even prefer a more nuanced ship2ship combat, or more subclasses, better resolution to the resolve problem. But money won’t solve all those things. If writers couldn’t fit figuring out what interactions would various companions and sidekick have into their schedule throwing money at them wouldn’t make this time appear. Same with design. Hiring extra workforce might not work out, as i doubt anyone would like to see an outsider write a banter to existing companions, or slap/modify existing systems. Being upset that sidekicks don’t have banter because devs specifically didn’t say they won’t is absurd. You really can’t hold people responsible for not disproving idea someone made in their own mind. Sure, it wasn’t clear how much content sidekicks will have but I imagine at that time even Obsidian didn’t exactly know - they knew what role they were to fil. Keep in mind that as Josh said, companions are one of the last things to be written in the game, my guess is that sidekicks got as much content as they could fit in. It’s no surprising that quest writing and companion writing took priority.

I am not particularly attached to IP itself (steampunk was cool, and all chamber quartet OST was good) but I would oppose a more systemic RPG in a vein of fallout or Arcanum. Divinity1 filled this gap to some extend. We will see what the secret project will be - it might scratch the itch is some way or form.

I suppose it depends on what you consider bad. I found ME3 to be pretty bad. Sure, I can point to many worse games, but ME3 came after two excellent instalments. It’s not that it is simply worse than what came before, but it has good elements only because it is using stuff, which worked before. It felt like a rushed sequel, with more bugs, worse design, worse writing, flat characters, weird inconsistency in tone. A forgettable title overall, but it also happens to act as a finale to a series I enjoyed a whole lot, which makes me dislike its existence. One can ignore a poor standalone episode but a mistep in a direct sequel messes things up in general. I have replayed ME1 not so long ago, and I got annoyed knowing how poorly conflicts and characters will get eventually resolved. Andromeda seemed like a dangerous idea that could suck me back in into ME. Luckily, from what I hear it wasted an opportunity to make ME cool again, and just retreads old paths with a mediocare result.

From what I understand is that if you leave game dormant and release big expansion for it, it is fairly unlikely that a huge chunk of players will return to it. Nowadays companions who go for big expansions still lead with bunch of smaller ones - Witcher3 release bunch of tiny, free DLC, Civilization releases Civs, XCOM released couple DLC before WotC. At least, that’s how I heard it explained multiple times.

There is no "real" reason for them to not be present tho, except for gameplay purposes/see above.I am trying to wrap my head around this statement. 1) It is a game. 2) game is revolving around gameplay. 3) gameplay is tuned to be played with a party of 5 - combat, relationships, scripted interactions. 4) there is no reason not to have everyone in your party. I feel like I am missing couple important bulletpoints between 3) and 4).

Details about sidekicks are disappointing yet expected. They deliver exactly on what they promised - keeping against them that sidekicks wont include something they never said they will, is IMO not reasonable. Comparing them to Minsc is misleading, though - it seems that they will be closer to Mazzy. As far as complaints regarding Obs investing money in VO instead of better fleshed out sidekicks - voice actors won’t write the lines. Extra money won’t expand what writers can do. Hiring extra ones might do a trick, but for some reasons they decided against it. With smaller expansion size it seems unlikely that sidekicks will get some extra love after release. I am afraid, those four chaps will spend most of the adventure on my boat.

There isn’t really much difference as DLCs are expansions and expansions are downloadable. Some people use those terms to describe different types of content. “expansions” often describe a bigger chunk of content, which significantly modifies base game or adds new campaign - Starcraft: Broodwar, Throne of Bhaal, XCOM2 War of the Chosen, Civ expansions. Types of content which made sense being sold when internet and downloading wasn’t a thing - it wouldn’t be a worthwhile effort to release a disc with a single Civ for civilization2. DLC often refers to a more modern type of expansion which became popular with internet - smaller, multiple chunks of content. While White March were two seperate DLCs forming an expansion, those three ones seem to fit better into a DLC area. EDIT. A good example of DLC vs expansion is XCOM2, which has both: 4 pieces of DLC: resistance warrior pack, anarchy’s children, alien hunters and shen’s last gift. And one expansion: War of the Chosen.

Fig crowdfunding > “Why can’t we preorder season pass! We all know you will do expansions, so let us buy something worthwhile!” > Early Bird DLC Addon Deadfire Preorder > “What are the DLC exactly! You ask us to pay for it, yet give no information!” DLC info released > “How dare you revealing the DLC! You are greedy! You cut content from the main game! Damn you!”

Portraits II

I would be most excited for a $40 expansion in a year or so after release, but I will take what I can get. Shame that WM didn’t work out, as it was an excellent addition.

An interesting world to explore, with interesting characters to meet. Ability to somewhat define my character and see the world react to it or be designed in such a way that I can project my intentions on an unchangable scenario. Engaging quest design - be it how it takes into account character, gives interesting choices along the way or just tells the story in engaging way. That’s pretty much it. Finer details like range of customisation and individual mechanics or perspectives are up for discussion. I like them all from Fallouts to Mass Effects and Witcher’s.

Exciting! All of them look good to me. As all of them seem like seperate adventures they might fit the game better (if they are accessible during the main campaign). I was worried that with 3DLC coming one or two of them might be lame (aka. Tyranny portrait pack) but I am glad to see that all of them will scratch some itch I have.

Are you addicted to video games? (Kinda personal IK)
Wormerine replied to Tanjaxxx's topic in Computer and Console
Well, no. To be an addict, means not being able to stop - suffer withdraw symptoms and such. I don’t need my daily/weekly gaming fix. I can not gaming for long periods of time if there is nothing that interests me or have other things to do. On average I feel I tend to game too much. Time when my computer was dead was one of the most productive and creative I ever had. When game that I really really like come out I can disappear into it pretty hard, but it’s the same with a movie, tv show, book or a bar of Belgian chocolate. It’s more like binging on a video games rather than being addicted. It all depends how games are designed. Many games I like the most tend to “taste” best in small chunks when I am fully focused. While I can binge PoE1 now, I played it in small chunks for the first time stopping whenever I felt I don’t pay enough attention. I expect to be the same with Deadfire. -
Interesting. I don't remember there being an announcement that they were gold certified. The exact moment:https://www.twitch.tv/videos/252031193?t=06h06m42s Time: 06:57:30 I think he is half joking. Just after it he talks about how audio team is balancing the audio and having ton of work before release. I would imagine that other polishing work is happening as well. From what josh said game has been “completed” for a while and now is in state of cleaning up.

VTM: Bloodlines is one of those games I am constantly returning to, but because I am told it’s really good and I just can’t see it. Maybe it’s a setting which puts me off so much (not a fan of cheesy vampires). I found quests and characters forgettable, and systems unengaging. I started couple playthoughs and I don’t have any specific memories beside crappy combat, one clever character and sucking blood from random people. Oh, and horrible horrible club music.
