  1. Not 100% sure, but I don't think you get that option if you enter the area from Old Town. I think it only triggers from Delver's Row. So going that route will prevent you from being able to talk to her.
  2. In POE1 knockdown lasted far longer though. I rarely use it now as it is very circumstatial and there are better options. "Cheap" is meaningless when you can stun someone instead and basically take them out of the fight completely. Also, knocked down enemies cannot be flanked by normal means thus some of the things relying on flanked will not work.
  3. This is exactly the way it happened to me the first time I played. It'll prevent you from using the pirates to feed the Roparu so you'll have to use the Dawnstars or the Queen to complete that quest. It will not stop you from being able to complete Dereo's questline. You will lose rep with the pirates for every pirate you kill however. When you take the elevator to Delver's Row, if you don't have clearance from Dereo then the guards in Delver's row may aggro. Killing them is of no consequence. I've done it this way myself. Everyone else in Delver's Row will not aggro.
  4. Funny. I started using a propperly built single class Cipher Ascendant and it's so strong it's kind of rediculous. I'm halfway through the game and this character dealt over 100K damage wit a 180 burst. I haven't fought any dragons yet, but that will be very very sad and over very very quickly. Fights that were really hard before are now incredibly easy.
  5. This stuff is all random drops. So far I've been to all locations above and no sapphires. Is there any place where I can find 100% full proof Sapphire? The wiki states shrine of nemnok, but nothings there either.
  6. So this has bugged me for a while and I didn't know why until I finaly realized the voice actor was putting the wrong emphasys on words and delivered his lines completely wrong. This is about the short cutscene that plays in Dunnage in the The King's Coffin between the two pirates regarding the pulling of teeth. Now the pirate Llendreth kills another pirate after arguing about pulling teeth right after death or waiting a while and then pulling them. The line in question is: "What do you know - It really does make no difference." The line is delivered as if Llendreth is proving his point after killing the other pirate, but he is in fact simply confirming that the other pirate is right. This means the line should have delivered as if he was surprised and then confirming it by stating it doesn't make any difference after all. Can't believe the director also didn't pick this up.
  7. I played IWD, so I do know it. The story is fairly simple though and I wouldn't compare it to BG2 or 1 in terms of interaction. It's about 80 monster fights and dungeoning and 20% story. Baldurs Gate is more focussed on adventuring and exploring things in the world. It's true the main story is spread thin in BG1, but there's so much more going on that allows the world to come alive. The story in IWD only really develops in the starting town. Everything outside is just killing monsters as much as possible. IWD 2 was even more of a dungeon crawler. The lack of party members also weighs on the game's identity. It's basically you and some made up adventurers with no identity.
  8. A "piano" literally got its name because it had greater dynamic range than other keyed instruments. Early versions were called "Fortepiano"-- "Forte" meaning "loud" and "piano" meaning "soft." Consider this then. Maybe this thing he's pounding on is a fortepiano. Just roll with it. Also, he's drunk and an idiot. Where have we witnessed him playing the piano on any acceptable level? It's not like these pirates would know the difference.
  9. Wasn't Icewind Dale just a dungeon crawler without much of a story? If that's going to stay the same I'd say it's a waste of Obsidians time. Wasn't a blockbuster either. Didn't even sell half as many copies as Baldur's Gate which was released much earlier.
  10. I think it's pretty immersive. Have you ever seen a drunken fool play a piano with a whole tavern full of rowdy pirates egging him on?
  11. did they take away real time on this game or is this actually about something else They didn't. I threw an "if" in there.
  12. I "complain" because a single class starts the game at a disadvantage and has to play catchup. Also has 20% less hp, so there's that.
  13. Yes I know all that. I'm talking about the start of the game. Say I start the game as a seer with ghost heart. I basically am 3 times as useful as a single class cipher for a good 4 levels. At level 1 I get a summon that's basically an extra party member, I get an ability from Ranger AND I get one from Cipher. I also get 2 passives. Single class Cipher starts with only 1 ability and 1 passive. Man sometimes I wish they incorporated the D&D style multiclass system that has you choose a class at level up and not just merge two classes as 1.
  14. You make that sound as if it nullifies the slower start. They get their power levels sooner, not more often. I'm still short 1 ability as opposed to multi class. Makes playing single class cipher real lame at the start of the game.
  15. So it's been a while since I picked single class and I don't rightly remember if this was always the case, but it seems kind of odd that a single class starts with 1 ability and multiclass gets to pick 2 (one from each class). Shouldn't single class start with 2 abilities as well??
  16. I dunno, I play this game because it isn't turn based. If I wanted a game with turn based mode I'd play Shadowrun or Divinity Original Sin. It's not about Turn Based not being good or not working for a game like Pillars. It's about Pillars turning into another game and giving up it's own identity. For me one of the main reasons to play the game would be gone. If it is optional and you can make it work, sure go ahead. Making Pillars 3 fully turn based would probably push back some if not a lot of the fanbase. It would push me away, because there's games where turn based just is so much better. There would be no reason for me to play Pillars anymore.
  17. So I don't know about you guys, but the aquisition of Obsidian by Microsoft has me a little worried. I know Obsidian had to do a lot with Kickstarter to actually create some of the games here so perhaps the sale was from financial need, but being part of a large company ultimately can move these subsidiaries into something that will break them down. EA for instance has done the same to other companies before. Now I don't want to say anything bad about Microsoft, especially because the company I work for is also a subsidiary of Microsoft (so does that mean I'm now somehow collegues with Obsidian? ) I really like the company I work for, but being part of something larger that can influence your course for good or bad can have major impact. What are your thoughts?
  18. Wall of hitpoints? They learned from the best (50.0000.0000 HP): Edit: this is probably the fastest you can clear this. I remember my wife took 4 hours or so killing it.
  19. Strange, I've never seen that.
  20. It's an issue if you really want to play with full fledged party members and not just a bunch of people that are just there. I get the feeling that Obsidian simply hates priests. In the first game we have Durance who is such a dumb and annoying character that I just kill him every time I enter the area where you can pick him up. Xoti is no exception. She's also an idiot and possibly even more annoying because not only is she incredibly stupid, she has the most obnoxious accent and is fanatically religious. There is no way to like this character if you are of average intelligence or higher. And in beast of Winter we get a guy who spearheads a bunch of lunatics and looks like he died 5 times. I'm serious it's on purpose. They're all a bunch of deranged idiots. well i think you're making an err in judgement that you think you have to like characters as people for them to be interesting. durance is incredibly important to the plot of that game so good job on killing him its crazy how much people hate southern accents lol are you a yank or euro Hey now, I don't hate southern accents. I hate her rendition of it. And I think it doesn't match the game at all. Truth be told, a southern accent in (pop) culture is loosely tied to being stupid. I didn't create that bias. It's the same with eastern accent in my country. You know the people that don't speak the language like the larger part ofthe west speaks. They are mostly small villages with more farmers. They are also tied to being stupid, even though that is obviously not the case. What is the case is that the views of these people are far more limited than the people in the big city areas. So stupid may not be the best choice in words, but you know what i'm trying to say. That, and I must say that the southern US accent is very very ugly. Sounds really bad to me. I don't hate it, but I don't like it. And I remember meeting someone who lived in Texas for 2 years. He told me it was the worst 10 years of his life. Because of how narrowminded people were and how, if you didn't "belong" or were from another area how much aggression and ignorance people showed you. So it's not just the accent, but the people in the southern part also have a different way of looking at the world. They also mostly vote for Trump, so I can finish my case there. And Durance is not important to the plot at all. None of your party members are. They add minor fluff to the game. I've put about 600 hours into the game and finished each and every quest and played with all party members. If I had to give credits to a single party member it would be Grieving Mother. The fact that Durance's backstory is actually very interesting doesn't make it more important. He is simply far to dumb and annoying to enjoy that part.

  22. I don't understand how she has 14 intelligence. 6 would fit her better from an RP perspective.
  23. Wait are we doing a "how RPGs are actually incredibly stupid and unrealistic" thread? You could start by saying you can just enter a persons home and take their stuff without anyone realising it was you. Ever. Even if you talk to them beforehand. In fact they will probably give you random advice on one or more quests to boot. Or any other game that has guns where people survive multiple headshots no problem. Because: hitpoints. Man you could write a list about everything that's wrong with RPGs that is longer than the ingame dialogue and still not be done.
  24. Looks like a low damage party. I would turn your main into something that can either focus enemies down quickly with very high damage abilities or that can handle AoE. You could also add a Druid or Cipher to the party (or both) to have a bit more CC and DoTs going on. Higher level abilities have incredible damage. A good disintegrate on an otherwise impossible to hit/damage enemy can take it down in a few ticks. Druids and Cipher both have the ability to deal good single target or AoE raw damage. Veteran is a good difficulty level, but with all games that are built around stats it will make some fights really hard and arduous and some fights a walk in the park. I'd suggest turning level scalling on, upwards and for all enemies. PotD will make you cry in certain fights, especially if your party is not optimized. Remember Ciphers don't ever run out of spells to cast. So in longer fights Ciphers are preferabele as casters over any other caster. I had a setup with 3 Ciphers going and those were pretty much able to deal with anything thrown at them. It wasn't easy, but at least I didn't run out of healing abilities halfway through the fight. So when looking at fights vs your party there's a few stats that matter. Deflection is important to take note off. For instance Bekarna's Observatory has a few enemies that boast somewhere between 90-120 Deflection depending on buffs on Veteran difficulty. A party with low accuracy will have a hard time hitting enemies, making fights really long. You will run out of things to aid your party with to overcome the enemy. Even at equal level to the enemy it will still be tough or maybe even impossible depending on your party. The other point is what others have discussed already. That is penetration and Damage Reduction stats. So with the above combined you may run into fights where you can hit the enemy 10% of the time and only deal 1-4 damage every time. Those fights are impossible unless you have some other way to deal with them. Looking at your party, it has no real effective way of dealing with certain enemies that simply have better stats than you. Having only 1 damage dealer may also make things very hard if that character is focussed down and killed, leaving you with a very tanky team that will just whittle down and slowly lose.
