This build is created around Serafens Handcannon, to use it to its full potential and wreak havoc on crowds of enemies. The build is very fun and also very effective. I'll post a couple of videos down below. Played on Solo Potd Upscaled - All, Patch 1.1 Classes, Assassin/Nalpazca: - Assassin is chosen because of its highly accurate opening shot wich is crucial to inflict afflictions on enemies right from the start, Rogues afflictions are perfect for this build. - Monk is chosen because i wanted that +10Int for bigger radius and longer affliction durations. Nalpazca was chosen because Whiteleaf will be our only convenient way of healing. Backround And Race: - Any race is fine really, I picked Pale Elf because i like Pale Elfs =) - Old Vailia for +1 Int and Hunter for an Alchemy point. Attributes: Mig: 12 Con: 8 Dex: 18 Per: 18 Int: 19 (18+1 Old Vailia) Res: 3 Speed, Accuracy, Radius and Duration are very important. Your Will defence in combat will be through the roof with whiteleaf running and Int nearly capped. For other saves fall back on potions if u need it. Abilities: I am not going to tell u exactly what to pick at every level. Instead i will list the most important ones and why i think they are important. - Swift Strikes - Lightning Strikes: More speed and a small lash is great and before we get Stunning Surge we wont have anything else to spend Mortification points on. - Crippling Strike, so we can upgrade it to Arterial Strike ASAP, Arterial Strike is amazing with this build, example will be shown in a video further down. - Escape: While not overly used, it will help u get into a good position and give u a great defense boost while u perfom whatever action u teleported there to perfom. - Dirty Fighting: Critical hits, extremely important once u get Stunning Surge. - One Handed Style: Same reason as Dirty Fighting, u never want to miss and u want to crit as much as possible. - The Long Stride and Fast Runner are picked because Stride is very important. - Blinding Strike - Confounding Blind: Lower the enemies deflection and Acc in AoE? Glorious! - Stunning blows - Stunning Surge: This is where the fun starts, Stunlock enemies in AoE and get all ur Mortification points spent back, each Crit in the AoE will give u 2 points back! - Deep Pockets: Because consumables are king! - Thunderous Blows: This lasts for around 25sec(ish) for us in combat, gives us both might and pen wich is great, this is also important to protect urself from nasty might afflictions such as Stuns. - Duality of Mortal Presence - Mind: This stance is the reason why i picked monk in the first place really, +10 Int in combat is straight up amazing! - Corroded Strike is a very lethal DoT, it increases in dmg the longer it stays on target, and with ur Int it will stay a while! The 3 guile cost doesnt feel so expensive anymore when u can inflict a grp of enemies with it at once. Use it on a pack of stunlocked enemies if u have the extra guile. That will have to do with the abilities, i think i havent missed anything super important but in any case, feel free to mix and match but i highly recomend the abilities above. VIDEOS: Here is a Video showing off Arterial Strike when i was lvl 11: And here is a Video showing off Stunning Surge against Beina Bounty on lvl 13: I've had a bug where the sound from an "Implosion Grenade" have been following me around from time to time, thats the super annoying sound ur hearing in that video. I'll Throw this one in here just as a treat, i present to u, the ultimate cheese: Skills: - Pump ur Alch as high as u can and get a minimum of 5 Arcana for Moonwell scrolls. High Alch gives u great potions and increases the effectiveness of drugs a lot. -I recomend u keep resting to a minimum and use powerful food and a Luminous Adra Potion along with Dunnage female hooker for +1 skills and (very important) immunity to engagement vs lesser enemies. If you do not enjoy this kind of min/maxing i recomend u get the Brigandine Armour from Beinas Bounty and enchant it with "Immunity to disengagement attacks". You do NOT want to get locked into engagements with this guy! Gear: - Serafens Handmortar (Obviously), go to Fort Deadlight and kill Serafen and loot his Mortar if you are soloing. - Peter, the cat. Increases AoE dmg and AoE radius, perfect for us. Can be found on second floor in Oathbinder's Sanctum. - Most of the time i used Aloths armour for more radius and a Ring of Overseeing for more radius again. The gains are quite small so feel free to use something else if u wish. - Helmet: Pick one =) - Necklace: i used a +1 Int neck mostly, but go ahead and pick a neck item that suits u =) - Belt: "The Amazing and truly incredible instant potion belt". This can be bought at the Beraths blessing merchant on Port Maje or from a merchant in northen Sacred Stairs (i really hope my memory isnt failing me now). This one gives u +2 Alch and a random potion each encounter. - Gloves: Apothecary's Gloves, these can be bought from the alchemy shop in Perikis Overwartch. Keep Burglars gloves in ur inventory when u need a mechanic boost. - Boots: Boots of Speed, because Stride is king for rounding up enemies and for kiting/positioning. - Cloak: Pick one =) I used Beraths blessings for Attributes, Skills, special merchant and for money on this guy. Its not a "must" tho, just very convenient.

As for focus gain I can only assume that it works in the AoE as I have never tested it on a cipher myself (I've just killed serafen and looted his weapon for myself) The handmortar does inflict rogue afflictions in AoE, it works gloriously. I'd go Assassin/Ascendant. If you play on PoTD the acc penalty of using the modal along with the blunders already -10 acc hurts too much to be worth that Xtra recovery speed. Besides, the handmortar already attacks in AoE. Scordios trophy is another great ranged weapon. One handed style with that weapon with the pistol modal on is beastly. Enchant it to stack recovery speed with each hit and enjoy ur super rapid revolver :D. It also has better critical dmg then other guns and with dirty tricks and one handed style u have quite high crit rate even with pistol modal turned on.

And the good thing about my builds are they involve 0 cheesing or abuse of game mechanics whatsoever. I like to have straight up slugging fights with no stealth cheese, no choke point cheese, no op arcana scrolls, no op alchemy potions. Just a clean build + the right equipments. How do you beat the double Boars, the tigers + Drake fight, and the hordes of skeleton archer/mage in the beginning of the game? I just don't see how one character, regardless of build, with starting equipment and missing item slots tanks four higher level creatures with no strategic use of fight mechanics on PotDBy abusing this games silly AI. I cleared them with a lvl 4 ghostheart/Ascendant by using a barrel next to the stairs as a chokepoint where I summoned my bear. Then I focused on charming their heavy hitters while shooting at the wurms. Drake and one wurm was pulled separately by using sparkcrackers from the south edge near the gunpowder barrel, one shot with the Arqeubus on the barrel hurt them badly and they came at me up the stairs. But yeah, without any kind of cheesy tactic I very much doubt that it's even possible. Dorf, please read up before you comment because otherwise there is no point answering your question again when someone has already answered it before. Check Dunehunter's reply on here.I didn't even ask a question I simply stated how I did it lol. Besides I already answered dunehunters and your comment, but u ignored that. You can't come back and clear that fight later because all the mobs are gone when u come back out from sublevel arena. No, as in do all the quests in Maje first before you do it. You need to gain those levels. Yes and this puts you on lvl 4. If you share a video of a lvl 4 character on upscaled POTD soloing that fight without using ur definition of OP cheese wich would be Arcana, Alchemy and Chokepoints I will be very impressed. Until then I will call BS.

Why so? What does Int accomplish for the martial MC? Durations of self-buffs? By the time you get it you have enough resources to just renew them. Durations and radius and will defense. That's 3 boosts for one point spent. Sure if your a martial class that do not use any type of AoE (Rod, handmortar, Grenades, scrolls etc etc) u don't need the radius part. If you have so much extra resources so u can keep spamming afflictions and buffing urself without ever running out and u dont care about the loss of dps while reapplying everything then yeah you don't care for duration. But what if u have just finished buffing and someone tosses arcane damp on u because u dont care about will defense, that would be pretty annoying . Most builds I make have high Int and make use of it. Funny example is high Int + high Alch + barring deaths door potion = immortal for 40ish seconds.

Llengrath and mirror don't stack with each other I think but did they ever? I've played Wael/Napalsca but it was before the patch. Needless to say it was very strong ranged with all those lashes. 30%+50%+50% lashes in Rod aoe I don't know how much it would be now after patch I haven't played priest nor monk since. But the boosted deflection from veil and mirror is always nice. I'm not a fan of priests myself especially in this game where we have inspirations. A lifegiver/napalsca would be my choice.

Yeah Alchemy+poison is the strongest Singletart DoT in the game. With 20+ Alchemy it probably kills any target you apply it too. The poison "buff" stays on u for the duration of the poison but u can only apply it once per consumed poison. I tried using this with Serafens handmortar but it didn't work My personal favorite DoT I'm this game is Arterial Strike when it is used with Handmortar on someone with very high Int and +AoE radius boosts. It's just so brutal to inflict this on 3-5 mobs at once and then let them melt as they walk toward u. This do require them to move however wich I assume is less effective if u are playing a party with tank. But it's just so satisfying :D Grenades have great Dots. Rogues withering strike upgrade have a great DoT wich can be made into an AoE with handmortar. Wounding shot is kinda underwhelming but when used with mortar it's good. Deep Wounds on top of all this ofc. This probably work with Rod modal as well but Rods are not as stylish as a handmortar :D

Just loaded a save and bought the Voyager with various upgrades to try and use the rear cannon cleverly with speed and long range cannon at my advantage. It doesnt work because the enemy will flee if u are at a distance of 500m+. If u are in range of 250m cannons the enemy will ram u. So u have a very tiny distance to play around with if u are actually interested in ship vs ship combat. I sincerely hope Obsidian improves upon this because this is downright bad right now. It feels like Musket warfare where u simply stand around and exchange shots lol.
-
Yes but to play the ship vs ship combat I meant specifically u are to avoid boarding. Because if u only intend to board the ship, the combat minigame is irrelevant and so is basically all upgrades The other thread called "The Ship Combat Thread" is a rant thread, it was opened as a rant thread and it doesnt even stick to ship combat ranting.

Hello everyone. I open this thread so that we can discuss ships and ship combat. Tactics/ships/Upgrades etc etc. Do you have any advice to share or do you have any questions? I have tried playing around with ship combat for a bit and I have to say that it has been quite frustrating. I don't know if the fact that I play on POTD have any effect on the actual ship combat minigame or not? It appears that it doesn't matter how you initate combat. It most often puts u at disadvantage vs the AI where the AI starts of with their broadside already facing you. The RNG feels very punishing ala Xcom style. Cannons where u need to rush close often result in the AI ramming and boarding you. Inspecting the enemy ship and adjusting ur range to stay out if their cannons range seems to do nothing at all. I've had scenarios where I've been way closer then what their cannons allow but they still hit every shot. Meanwhile if I am not in my cannons comfortzone I get 0% chance to hit. Wyrmtongue cannons are expensive and can supposedly set enemy ships on fire. This almost never happen with Wyrmtongue for me. I either have very unlucky rolls or the Wyrmtongue is no different then other cannons. Purchasing any other ship then the Junk feel like a noobtrap. Because of things like ive stated above the only viable tactic in ship vs ship combat is to overpower the enemy. I took beraths blessing for 55k cash, ship captain rank and stormwind sails to focus the start of the campaign on piracy. I bought Dhow and equipped it with 3×3 Wyrmtongues and an upgraded hull. It felt like a massive waste of money. RNG is always with the AI, even when I attack simple merchant ships they seem to always snipe my cannoners. Always! What are your thoughts? Have u found any actual tactics that I have missed? What are ur favourite cannons? Is it worth it spending big money on ranked up crew members rather then upgrading the ship early? Also it feels like maintaining the ship costs more then what u get from sinking an enemy ship.

I agree with all of it. A small internal cooldown on swift flurry and drumming would allow for greater build variety and more fun if it also applied to ranged weapons. But I believe that this was already done while also making it melee only? Ranger pet is more of a penalty then anything in this game. This is why I always pick ghostheart. Cipher is for sure a one trick pony and is imo the most boring class in the game by far. For rogue backstab u need plenty of stealth or invisibility to reliably backstab. It is however not worth playing around this because that 100% Xtra dmg is not impressive because it scales poorly when u have so many additive dmg modifiers already. I'd have backstab changed into a Raw lash instead.

You make some very good points. But you don't take into consideration that I didn't actually go in blind. Before I started the game, I researched the class, read up on abilities, theorycrafted a build. Then it was just a matter of execution in-game, and it worked exactly as great as I thought it would. But all of that is gone now. I'm not saying Arcane Knight is garbage class. To be fair, it probably isn't, I mean come on it's Pala and Wizard. However, MINE is pretty damn poop because the playstyle that I was going for when I created him is no longer possible. Like I've stated, yeah I can respec and salvage the run, but I'll be stuck with a very bad subclass for the new style of gameplay that I'll have to incorporate (due to, for example, not having access to some spells). Coming back to a saved game after a character suddenly becomes strong again sounds good.. but not the most realistic. If you abandon a game for any reason, and move on to play other games, there is a high chance that you will not even hear about a new patch for the game you abandoned. And even if you do, to continue the run after like... half a year, it would be a challenge to even remember what was going on in game, and at that point it would probably make more sense just to restart. Of course this is all extremely subjective, but I'm confident that I'm not the only player with such approach. Also, if you can manage to plow through some really bad posts, you can find that some other people got borked way harder than I did. Imagine you're playing Ranger/Monk and suddenly Monk's main buff no longer works with your weapon, and you HAVE to start playing melee (which was not your goal at all at character creation) to be somewhat effective. That's like a kick in the nuts. Just being curious. What was ur intended build idea behind your Arcane Knight? Because Paladin/Wizard are two classes who weren't changed in any significant ways iirc? Archraven had a good example of a build idea who got ruined because of the change when swift flurry suddenly was changed to melee only. Here I can completely see the annoyance of this change if he/she was building a ranged crit build. Were u going to be abusing the immortality in some way? Or were u stacking defenses and the change to FoC and the change to POTD made u a lot more squishy? I apologize if you already explained this but this thread is very long. I am just curious.

Personally Id prefer a "cooldown" system with a few more active abilities. A priest for example would get more spells then they do in deadfire but less then they had in PoE 1 and spells had cooldowns. Powerful spells would have longer cooldowns then lesser spells. Figurines would require souls gathered from kills to be recast, more powerful figurines require more souls etc. A character/party would still need to rest and consume food/drink while doing so or they will get dehydrated/fatigue/starved. This is more for the immersion then anything. Merchants wouldn't have infinite gold to buy every piece of garbage Xaurip spear u drag with you. Merchants would regain some money each passing day because business.

A rogue/ranger with arterial strike equipped with Serafens handmortar is tons of fun because it will inflict hobble and the raw dmg on movement in AoE. Used this on a solorun using ghostheart/assassin. Assassin was chosen because of grenade alpha strikes, if u won't use grenades and go blunderbuss a streetfighter would be a cool option if u use the modals, but in that case I'd recommend Alchemy so u can boost ur ACC. Withering strike with the corrode DoT upgrade is also very lethal with this. Another option with less per hit dmg but quick gunslinger would be Troub/Ranger for pistols or Troub/Streetfighter for blunderbusses. But it sucks loosing out of driving flight if u skip ranger. You could also go for a dual pistol crit build using that pistol with Xtra critical dmg (I forgot wich one it is but I think it's the pistol from citadel merchant) and do Rogue/Monk for Confounding blind + stunning blows. Confounding blind lowers deflection with each shot while stunning blows will keep regaining mortification points if u crit. Wich happens a lot when u are using full attacks against a target with confounding blind. This is a single target killer tho so I'd go explosives for AoE dmg.

The clicking was a bug anyway, an exploit. The reload speed bug seems to be fixed now anyway. From my limited testing it seems like if you shoot from stealth and instantly at combat start paus shoot another shot u get 2 shots but if you do anything else after the initial shot like moving or using sworn enemy u will get the reload animation.
