Rothfuss, maybe (his first book blew up out of nowhere), but Martian has been writing for TV, novels, short stories, and editing anthologies for decades before A Song of Fire and Ice. I don't have a dog in the race seeing as I don't like A Song of Fire and Ice, but after writing for TV you'd think he was used to deadlines.

From what (little) I remember, the biggest disappointment with the White March was that it doesn't take place after the main game. Other than that, 2015 was a great year for gaming and a lot of people forgot about Pillars by the time part one released.

This is pretty much everything I have a problem with. As it is now, I might play POE2 at launch, but it will be on the lowest difficulty and with level scaling because I don't think combat is in a good place at all. Mostly I feel like I'll let it sit for a year while Obsidian rolls out balancing patches before really going to town with it.

I'm with you on class, but background absolutely should give you skill points. What you did before you became an adventurer is the main determinant of what your starting skills would be. I might agree if the skill points that each background gave weren't wildly different from those in POE1. This is a direct squeal, but remaking my character is impossible. If they insist upon changing the skill points from backgrounds then they need an option to opt out and select your own if only for roleplaying purposes.

Which is why (one of the reasons, anyway) some people believe we are headed for another industry crash. The 'middle' (middle studios and AA games) have largely already fallen out. That's a bad sign. Having only large 100 million dollars prodjects or 4 million dollar indies isn't a sign of a healthy market.
