Some time ago I posted this somewhere here already, but check it out if you want to have a notion what the world MAYBE looks like. I made this according to various sources from the web (Pillars wiki, Josh Sawyer blog, etc.): https://forums.obsidian.net/uploads/monthly_02_2017/post-52304-0-45324700-1486033731.png I'm pretty smug proud of myself because of this (https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/91980-list-of-poe1-inconsistent-stuff/?p=1911820) Is there a source that puts Deadfire to the east of the Eastern Reach - I was under the impression it was to the south and west, closer to Old Vailia (with a much larger southern ocean). Shouldn't Rauatai be nearer Deadfire, also - possibly to the east, where you have put Deadfire?

The Hobbit is a very English novel. The characters use very (early 20th century) English phrasing, it would be practically impossible to give those characters any other accent and still retain any of the original text. But the non-English varieties of birds and butterflies still jarred with me. And the accents of the dwarves where inconstantly Scottish (Ken Stott, Balin) and Irish (James Nesbitt, Bofur). As for me, I like to hear American accents in American games. To my English ears Eder and Sagani sound quite exotic. NB, There is no such thing as speaking with "no" accent. Everyone has an accent.

So, currently, it looks like we won't have full control over how we multiclass companions. A little disappointing, as I had been looking forward to making Edér a Fighter/Priest of Eothas, but perhaps it'll change. It's what I said, only no one would believe me. It's actually a pretty obvious consequence of the changes to the multiclass system. Huh For me companion multiclassing possibilities locked to specific classes (e.g. Eder only as a Fighter/Rogue) was clear from the start. Sure, me too, but I got a lot of flack for saying so. There seemed to be an expectation that they would be able to choose to make Eder a fighter or rogue then choose any other multiclass. You got zero flack for it. You made a claim that the companion classes would be locked down and that we would have zero choice about whether to multiclass them or not, a few others pointed out information that conflicted with that, including the video that stated quite clearly that you 'chose to multiclass or not' when the character joins the party, and you immediately attacked everyone, accusing them of attacking you (when they were just raising points and were not arguing with your claims at all), made claims that we were expected to accept with no links or sources cited despite it conflicting with what had been officially released at the time and generally acted like a prat, and so people treated you as a prat in response. Funnily enough, my statement is proven right: you still get to choose whether they can be multi-classed or not when the character joins your party, as you can choose whether to keep Eder single class or multi-class. Feel free to debate this but don't be surprised that if you act like a prat you will be treated like one. 1) You have a funny idea of "no flack". 2) I said you would no longer be able to choose to multiclass as a consequence of the announced changes, and hence would not be able to make Eder a Rogue/Druid. I also stated, giving Swashbuckler Eder as a specific example, that you would be to choose a preset multiclass option for a character when you first met them. 3) The "information that conflicted" clearly showed the old multiclassing system which we had been told had changed. So was meaningless. 4) The only evidence that was required was the announced changes to the multiclass system. This was an obvious consequence. 5) I believe calling someone a "prat" is against the terms of conditions of these message boards. It would be nice if just for once someone admitted they where wrong and apologised, rather than resorting to Trump-like name calling. No you didn't. Here's the thread where you got the 'flack' for making the claims. Note my response, first that I was just pointing out what was said in the video (and was not even directed at you), your response where you acted like it was some sort of personal attack upon you and citing some source as evidence, and then my response where I pointed out I wasn't even disagreeing with you and asking you to chill it with the attitude. No one there gave you flack except for me, and that was in response to your behaviour, no one was even really disagreeing with you they just didn't see where you got this information from and yet you went off on one about being attacked and given flack. Do you really expect people to just accept your word and never disagree with you (which was the real issue, that people were disagreeing with you). It would be nice for you to cut the obnoxious behaviour and to back down please. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/94066-a-rundown-of-the-companions-and-sidekicks-available/page-3 Thankyou for finding the thread for me. You might have found it less embarrassing had you read it first. "But you don't "multiclass" (verb) now. A character is either multiclassed or they aren't. For example, Eder. When you first meet him you can choose for him to be a fighter, a rogue, or a fighter/rogue. No other options are available, and if you choose fighter he can't at some future point become a fighter/rogue (unless there is a full respec option)." -me

I think improving the length and animation of rods would be a middle ground that would leave no one disappointed.

DLC survey
Fardragon replied to PangaeaACDC's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Interesting read. Most of it was obvious. I thought there would be a higher turn out from UK/Europeans, maybe we didn't get the memo. Yeah I was surprised at the low turnout especially for the UK (since we share English as our primary language). I'm wondering if information about this kind of thing going on is not passed on as well here or if Europeans are less likely to bother with surveys? I know quite a few people who have played Obsidian games, not one of them seemed to be aware of the survey and didn't mention it if they did know about it. Might bring it up sometime with them to see, or maybe I might just not bother. I think we are just too apathetic. Well, if... Oh, I can't be bothered. -
I think you are missing the point. PoE mages don't dress like that. In this setting mages look like everyone else. You don't have to be a mage to use an implement or staff. You can play an implement using monk (self damage is nice) or a staff wielding barbarian. A mage can wear full plate and wield a two handed sword. It's not a world where you can tell what class someone is by the way they dress. This is reflected even more in Deadfire by making Blast a property of rods, rather than a mage-specific ability.

They've posted all of the subclasses. Goldpact Knight is a Paladin subclass. No "Knight" fighter subclass though. https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/93848-update-40-multiclassing-part-ii/ "Fighter Black Jacket - Bonus weapon proficiency, reduced Recovery when switching weapon, but lacks Constant Recovery. Devoted - May only be proficient in a single weapon. Higher Penetration and crit damage with that weapon. Suffers Accuracy penalty when using other weapons. Unbroken - Bonuses to Engagement and Disengagement Attacks, but lower Stride. Really? That seems like an odd omission. Perhaps they'll add it in later? In order to be a knight you would have to be a member of some kind of order. So paladin. Or are you think more about fighter-who-focuses-on-wearing-heavy-armour? I think "Unbroken" is meant to be that.

I misspoke or, more accurately, misstyped. I should have written "Most people don't seem to actually understand the fallacies, but many claim their opponent is using them nonetheless, and treat that claim as though it's the ultimate trump card." Many might still be a bit too strong, perhaps some is the better word. My evidence is simply that I see them brought up a lot more often in online debates recently than I used to. Of course there are all sorts of flaws with that evidence, most notably that my sample is not at all representative. Yeah, sorry, I was trying (and clearly failing) to make a joke. I knew exactly what you meant. And that is perhaps a side issue - people use language loosely, expecting the person they are communicating with to understand what they mean, rather than the exact words used. This usually works fine in face-to-face communication, but can break down when translated into text. I do think that arguments that could loosely be classed as "of a straw man type" are used too frequently though. Clearly by people who are completely unaware that they are doing it. For an example, a friend of mine recently responded to a suggestion from some UK doctors that the NHS should not treat obese patients for certain conditions because they are self inflicted with this argument: "What next? refusing to treat sporting injuries because they are self inflicted?! Outrageous!".

The worst thing that happened to internet debating, in my opinion, was the propagation of the idea of logical fallacies. Most people don't seem to actually understand the fallacies, but claim their opponent is using them nonetheless, and treat that claim as though it's the ultimate trump card. Where is your evidence that "most" people claim their opponent is using logical fallacies? Surely you have statistical data to support this assertion? (I am willing to accept, a priori, that most people don't understand logical fallacies, since logic is not studied at many schools. Evidence: it is not on the UK National Curriculum.)

I want historical RPG Josh is mentioning. In of the interview Feargus mentioned an idea to do Noir RPG which is something I have been wanting for a long long time. I would take Cyberpunk over space opera. Cyberpunk has been done - the Shadowrun games aint bad, and there are others. Anyway, I am sick and tired of grimdark. I want bright colours, rocket ships, ray guns, and small furry aliens from Alpha Centuri. Shadowrun ain't Cyberpunk. It has qualities from Cyberpunk, but it has dwarves, elves, orcs, magic, etc that detracts from the cyber and punk elements that are meant to be the heart of cyberpunk. Shadowrun has fantasy elements because Cyber and Punk alone = real life.

Now I can think of arguments in favour of five over six, most notably the fact that combat was often hectic in Pillars due to much fewer passive character classes than the old IE games and the fact that this would likely get worse with the increased availability of combat abilities in Deadfire; but as Sedrefilos says none of us really know whether it'll be better or worse until the game is released. Actually, I do know whether it will be better or worse already. The big mistake you make is assuming the issue of party size is, for all players, all about combat. For me, the party size issue has nothing to do with combat, or any other aspect of gameplay for that matter. The progressive development of my party characters during the course of "adventuring" with them is what I care about in my games. This is why even though I have played through PoE1 many times, I've yet to actually finish the game, because "winning" or "beating the game" are not at all important to me. By the time my party reaches a high level I start losing interest in the game because there's no more character development left to be done. So I just quit and restart from the beginning again. Developing my characters is what's fun for me, and having only five to develop instead of six, by definition, means I will have 1/6th less fun therefore "worse" for me. You are making a false comparison here. You can spend just as much time developing five characters, or one (with the right ruleset). With six characters, your development is spread thinner than with five, so each character is less developed.

Yes, if you look at Sawyer's recent talk, he is trying to get away from the wizards in dresses using staves and daggers trope, and is somewhat frustrated by player-inertia. PoE wizards should be equally effective with full plate and dual scimitars. The last thing Obsidian want is to tie them to specific weapons.
