  1. Well, Baldur's Gate gets it pretty much spot on, with the slightly-too-large party the only downside. So I call bovine excrement on that.
  2. I built a spear with rope/rod/knife on the ship something like that but it doesnt scale with strength so..... Spears are 2-H finesse weapons. Which are fine, all the Warfare abilities scale fine with Finesse, you don't have to go with strength. Brooms, mops, spades etc. are 2-H strength weapons, or you can make a crude 2-H axe by tying a rock to the end of a long stick. It's worth knowing that you can respec later in the game.
  3. It's kind of an irrelevent question: The protagonist could originate from Deadfire, so whatever the main language spoken in that region is, the protagonist has to be assumed to be able to speak it. And across the party one has to assume minor languages are covered too. Thus, the language spoken (or appartently spoken) by Rekke is not a language known in any region the protagonist could possibly origininate from. Several possible explanations: * he has brain damage; * he comes from a completly unknown part of the world; * he comes from a different world altogether; * he is not human: he is a polymorphed animal, or has an animal soul; * he has taken a relgious vow that prevents him speaking; * He has damaged vocal cords; * his people do not communicate vocally: they use telepathy, or smell, or ultrasound. Thus his brain is not capable of learning human speech, grunts are the closest he can get; * etc
  4. Why will 5 better? I haven't seen any good arguments for 5 as well. I gave one - 5 better reflects the size of a PnP group. PnP party size is 5 (or less) because having bigger party is more time consuming. Computers can handle bigger party sizes than PnP because they do all calculations and do it very fast. For the same reason PoE1 had rules that are unfit for PnP system. If mechanics do not need to follow PnP traditions than party size does not need as well. It may not be a bad argument but i would not call it good either. What I'm looking for in a CRPG is for it to recreate, as closely as possible, the PnP experience. So PoE1's "unsuitable for PnP rules" are a big negative so far as I am concerned.
  5. Yup. Saying "I don't like it personally" is fine. Saying other people are wrong for praising it is just another way of saying "everyone is stupid apart from me."
  6. He isn't completely mute, he just can't (or chooses not to) speak any language the protagonist understands. He understands instructions though.
  7. They could add a an anime themed DLC pack, with glasses, short skirts and ridiculously large swords for everyone. For added authenticity they could add repetitive giant monsters to grind xp against, and add a load of huge-eyed portraits.
  8. But you can't tackle Firkraag with 20, which is the implication which I believe @Varana was responding to.
  9. Did you ask? He hasn't answered... I did... Which means there are certain people who aren't going to like the answer...

  11. I don't think the line between those two groups is nearly as sharp and defined as it once was. I don't think there ever was a line.
  12. I didn't invent the example I gave with Eder, it comes from a developer, I just can't find it. So no, as the game stands at the moment, companions have a narrow list of classes and multiclasses available (and preset subclass choices) which you choose when you first meet them. Choosing not to believe me doesn't make it any less true.
  13. Is Alpha Protocol an RPG? Is it any good? I might give it a look, I thought it was just a shooter. I'm one of those who hated the Witcher games purely because I hated the character of Geralt!
  14. Err, these games are designed to be played more than once. So you are not supposed to be able to see all of the content on one playthrough. If you can something is wrong.
  15. That is what seems likely to me. Depending on choices in the PoE1 you may or may not have the option of making Aloth a multiclassed Wizard/Barbarian.
  16. Because in the new system you can no longer multiclass. You are either multiclassed from the start, or single classed from the start. The write-up makes that perfectly clear.
  17. They have. Read the info, Eder is given as the example. You also can't choose a subclass, they are preset. Eder is a vanilla fighter, a vanilla rogue, or a vanilla fighter/vanilla rogue. It used to be 3rd edition style multiclassing, where you can choose a second class (and subclass) on level-up. Thus the ability to choose a wacky second class was a product of the game system, not a design choice. It now works something like DOS2: when you first meet Eder you have dialogue options: "I would like you to concentrate on being a fighter", "I would like you to concentrate on being sneaky", "I would like you to choose a balanced path". Clearly, there will not be a dialogue option for every class and subclass in the game.
  18. This itself presumably no longer applies though, since it is no longer possible to choose a second class when levelling up. I suppose that means that if you multiclass him one of his classes will have to be a mage. But you don't "multiclass" (verb) now. A character is either multiclassed or they aren't. For example, Eder. When you first meet him you can choose for him to be a fighter, a rogue, or a fighter/rogue. No other options are available, and if you choose fighter he can't at some future point become a fighter/rogue (unless there is a full respec option). IIRC, it's more flexible than that. Eder can be a Figher, a Rogue, a Fighter/[Anything] or a Rogue/[Anything]. Probably doesn't make much sense, character-wise, to make him a Rogue/Priest of Magran, but I think the philosophy here is that it's better to allow players to make these kinds of character-inconsistent and live with the cognitive dissonance than it is to start ruling stuff out. No. He can't. It used to be like that, but if you read the recent update on multiclassing you can see that this has changed. Being multiclassed is now a character creation choice, not something you can choose later.

  21. I believe there is also only one ranger, chanter, barbarian*, paladin and druid. Fessina's outfit could easily be a chanter (although I agree that wizard seems more likely) and Konstanten a barbarian. They could also have two options (and a multiclass) each. *or does Aloth still have a barbarian option? I haven't seen it mentioned for a while.
  22. My PnP game has between 3-5 players (+DM). 6 is really too many to manage effectively, and players can start to feel they aren't getting enough to do. So I'm in favour of a smaller party size.
  23. Just an observation: Fessina appeares to be dressed in Valarian style. Wild speculation: she looks enough like Pallegina to be a relative.
  24. Tip for DOS2: avoid combat at the start. Sneek around, negotiate, explore and if nessassary, run away. Then chose your fights when you are good and ready.
  25. Are you talking about DOS1 or 2? Since I would agree with all 3 of those points for the first one, but say they have all been tackled in the second. As for POE, my only big issue was the pacing, and that was basically because the endless paths broke it. It had about the right amount of spoken lines.
