  1. With something this hyped and this "big" I always sort of half expect delays or unforeseen hiccups. I mean we are talking about software development here right?
  2. Are we sure that tomorrow is the big day, or is it next week?
  3. I will say one thing about the old "official" D&D pantheon and cosmology, it was way too "on the nose" if you know what I mean? Mortals should NEVER have absolute certainty what the gods are like and what their ways and means are, or if they're even real. I think the way the supernatural is handled in a lot of fantasy novels and games is just plain dumb. I don't know how Obsidian plans to tackle this stuff, but my own preference is that the forces of the Outer Dark remain ineffable and mysterious as much as possible. Servants of a god or goddess should always have a certain sense of unease or a gnawing doubt at the back of their mind about the aims, whims and plans of the divine.
  4. you dont work in software do you I never said I expected them to have extra time. Just what they could do if they run out of things to do. This idle banter thing would be "nice" but not something I'd want to see them waste a lot of time or resources on if there are bigger issues left to tackle (like making sure the game is rock-solid stable, no game breaking quest bugs, few if any spelling errors, no half-finished content, etc.).
  5. One's a blobber on a shoestring budget, the other is a medieval FPS with millions of dollars backing it. Apples and oranges fail.
  6. Ah "R00fles." the "checkmate" of the bio, obs and codex forums for over a decade. Don't ever change Volly.
  7. I enjoyed a couple of persistent world servers built with NWN's toolset, so for that it was OK, but that game felt like such a betrayal (cue the Spoony One) after the excellence that was Baldur's Gate 1 and 2.
  8. Replaying Temple of Elemental Evil right now. Man, talk about the best implementation of D&D in a CRPG ... Sure it's not some sprawling, epic story-line, but holy crap I forgot just how good the fights are in this game. As for Torment being TB or RTwP, I don't care much one way or the other. But saying that Torment should be RTwP because the original game was done that way misses a very important point - Planescape Torment's combat was easily the weakest part of that game. Off-hand I can think of a couple of reasons why turn-based fits better with Torment's design philosophy: 1. Focus on a narrative driven game with few, but meaningful combat encounters. RtWP could really muck up pacing in a game like that. With turn-based there would be less incentive to fill it up with trash-mob encounters to stretch out the gameplay. 2. It's supposedly going to be a very text heavy game where combat will probably not be at the center of the experience. Turn-based would seem to reinforce a "cerebral" game, where RtWP seems like a better fit for a game that is more geared for fast and furious combat as its centerpiece.
  9. Assuming that Obsidian gets so far ahead of schedule that they end up with an extra month of development time it would fantastic to see them sprinkle in some "useless" flavor dialogue options. Idle banter between shopkeepers and customers, party members and in dialogue trees.
  10. 3d6s, arrange as you like, random professions and no min-maxing in Swords & Wizardry or go home.
  11. I think what you're trying to get at is the importance of "show, don't tell." From what I recall Josh Sawyer addressed this issue in a video update for the project some time back and if I recall, Obsidian is well aware of not using characters as information dispensers and prefer to let your impression of the world form as you explore it and experience it.
  12. I get it. No level scaling in other words? I sort of feel the same way, so long as there are (occasionally) some subtle hints that you are about to wander out of your depth from time to time.
  13. Hell I know I'm easily impressed, but I'm impressed. Very impressive. Impress.
  14. I definitely like the painterly style (Frazetta, Justin Sweet, et. al.) for the illustrated panels and just so long as it's not too much of an info dump, some narration to open the game and mark "chapters" would be fine.
  15. A pity. The OC might have been worth playing if it had been the other way around. Whether or not it would have crashed to the desktop every ten minutes at launch is another story altogether.
  16. I have no special knowledge, but my best guess is that they had some technical hurdles or other gameplay elements to iron out that took them a little longer than they had planned, but once those processes and methods were put in place their content pipelines are moving faster than they anticipated. That would be great because it means more time to polish and fine tune instead of having to rush at the end.
  17. I'm no prude, I just don't want to roll my eyes playing this game. No game ever gets it right, ever ... NEVER!
  18. Stop attacking the nude cards in W1 they were great. As for the sex scenes, as developers said this is a game for people who like to read, so I would say descriptions would be ok. All due respect but they sucked ... and you are wrong. I award you no points and may god have mercy on your soul.
  19. It's an isometric, party based game - the characters are going to be a an inch or two tall on the screen. So how exactly is "sex" supposed to work in an infinity style game that doesn't use cutscenes? And please don't say Witcher 1 nudie cards
  20. Just because of this thread my guess is that Obsidian is going to keep "project" in the title just to irritate you.
  21. Most of the old-gaurd that started Bioware when Black Isle was publishing their stuff is long gone ... so who knows?
  22. Presuming that your character is or becomes a well known bad-ass in the Dyrwood, it makes sense that your reputation is eventually going to proceed you. Even though it's a medieval-esque world, people have always loved to gossip and what better thing to gossip about than that marauding jerk/saint who's been running around the countryside doing "stuffs."
  23. As much as I enjoy getting an e-mail in my inbox informing me that a new update is ready to be read, I'm actually fine with a slow down to the release of information. No offense to Obsidian and its developers, but a lot of times it has felt like trying to fill dead air when they've adhered to the strict weekly and then bi-weekly update schedule. If we get the "big update" in time for Thanksgiving, then awesome, but if not then I'll be glad that extra time is being devoted to putting out an update that will try to live up to the hype.
  24. I think a little bit of cosmetic customization in an isometric, single-player, party-based RPG is a good thing, but at some point it just feels like people want to play dress-up. What you're asking for fits in better in massively multiplayer game where thousands of people are trying to stand out or distinguish their avatar in some way from the crowd, but for a crowd funded game with a limited budget this feels like a lot of fluff - resources that can probably be spent in more meaningful ways. So not to pee in your cheerios completely; there's nothing wrong with your request per se, but it's not something I care about at all and maybe I'm in the minority?
