  1. I made my decision to be done with the DA series the moment I played the DAII demo. It was pretty obvious it was little more than a heavily consolized pile of garbage with DA:O still fresh in my memory. As far as tactics went, DA:O had it's problems too. Especially if you scripted the use of potions. Since they had a cooldown period, it could happen that characters were stuck in their potion loop.
  2. I'm with you on the snow them. I don't like them very much in any game, but I can live with that. Especially given the general overhaul of the game. You second point begs the question if you played FNV. The level cap was raised there with every expansion and you were adviced not ot travel to any given new location before reaching a certain level. I was quite fine with that.
  3. Given that they pulled it off with FNV, which was comissioned by Bethesda, I'm pretty confident they can pull it with their very own baby.
  4. Not much information in that trailer. Looking forward to it nonetheless. I guess the original companions are gone, since their stories are finished when beating the main game. Therefore new companions.
  5. Care to elaborate? Or is this just a post attributed to something lurking under a bridge?
  6. Just keep talking to him. Eventually his quest will be closed. Youe learn a lot more than you have bargained for about him in the process.
  7. The treasury is less than impressive. If you build the garden and the Curio shop, you get random ingredients off and on. If you send your guys on adventures when they're available they bring home some quids and maybe a scroll or two if you're lucky. If, however this travelling merchant is named, visits the stronghold and you buy something, the item lands there too. Taxes, as far as I understand it, go directly into your cashbox without going through that chest.
  8. Sadly they obviously aren't before that point, since in my current playthrough said cat died when battling the animancer.
  9. Honestly, I have more of a problem with skillsets not being very important. When playing I made my way from easy to hard difficulty and never once needed the survival skill. It does nothing else than food last longer. And that seems to be a one difficulty wonder.
  10. Only if you do that. If you go about it silently without even talking to him in the first place, how does he know. In fact, I never talked to the man, but always searched the keep.
  11. Once again, that statistic is worthless, since it doesn't take into account that people followed Obsidian's advice to start the game as admin from the folder instead through the client. But if you do that, the client is blind to what you are doing. It doesn't record playing time, it doesn't hand out achievements, which ultimately are the only way they can say if you finished or not.
  12. Stop right there. That's the real oversight making the quest unbelievable in the first place. Why does this Penhelm character know that his documents were stolen, why does he know who stole them and why does he know where to wait for you to turn up? I played the quest several times, but things like that keep nagging me.
  13. Eder has something to say about every pet in the game. Including Sagani's fox of course.
  14. It's only it doesn't do that in my case. I'm still on 1.06.0591. Although I've got automatic updates enabled. I don't see a method to force the client to do a manual update anyway. I'm really looking for a solution there. Try switching out of the beta branch in Steam (if you are currently enrolled in it). That's how I got it to download. Yeah, now it at least says, update scheduled. Although it still doesn't do anything besides that. Edit: I also had to set it to high priority so that the client could actually be arsed to do the update. Second edit: Opting into the beta program after downloading makes that piece of sh.. unroll the update. Now I've got update scheduled again, without the client doing anything. Where are the days when you could actively decide when to download a patch?

  16. It's supposed to be 0617. Curious. Steam didn't update and I don't see any option in the client to force it. The general setting for the game are set to constantly update, anyway.
  17. can anyone tell me what the serial number of the game should be? Is it ending with 0591?
  18. So it's your personal experience and you have my sympathies for that, but it's not as if society has suddenly grown happy go lucky since then. If anything, given 9/11 and the ensuing European attacks in 2004 and 2005 have made things more sinister.
  19. What? We're not talking about the Dark Ages here? Weren't you alive in 1998? To call it so much darker than today is a peculiar claim. Unsupported by my own memories and I was already 35 back then.
  20. No, I didn't, simply because I didn't have them at that level. The only thing was slicken and some mind blades, since my player is a cypher.
  21. So I'm doing my first run on hard and reached Raedric's stronghold. There's that animancer who's name I never can quite remember and she's got a cat. So I fought her and her minions and as always I looked for the mangled kitty to give her a new home. Only to discover she's lying dead on the floor. Strange, I thought pets were immortal.
  22. The Doemenels offer three choices. Money, weapon or favor. I don't know what the favor option is all about, since I see no opportunity to call it in. If you do their quests, they get you the invite to the meeting in any case. The weapon, at least in my opinion, is less than impressive. I had better at the time in question. So, third time round, I went with the money, since it's a tidy little sum and offers the possibiity to buy or enchant stuff you really need. If anyone can riddle me the favor option, I would be grateful. Btw, I don't think you can trade with the Doemenel mother unless you've taken care of her personal little quest.
  23. That's why I said, there are several options. There's also one telling them that Aloth's got a hidden weapon or something like that. I don't know if it's attached to some player attribute.
  24. From my perspective, it's much better than the so called AAA titles. With the possible exception of FNV, but that was Obsidian too.
  25. There are several possibilities. There's a string of dialogue that starts with something like "you don't want to do that". It then leads to Aloth reaching for something. They back down after that.
