Memorials problem.
Tigranes replied to Ladyjess's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I'm sure Obsidian will say something if and when they want to. (It's also a Sunday in the US.) I don't have any information on what they think about it. -
Memorials problem.

Okay, reopened. We mods have had to watch this thread all day and we also needed a minute to gather our breath. The Obsidian forum policy has always been: you can have any opinion you like, you can express it in rather firm ways, and you can also have some joke and banter. We will try to moderate as little as possible, and let you guys talk about things. Obsidian as a company prefers this as well. But we do draw the line at personal attacks, at deliberately infuriating other people, and other things that degrade the conversation and the community for everybody. This is obviously a sensitive topic for people. No matter where you stand on it, we ask that you stay minimally civil, and respect that other people may have different opinions, and that this doesn't mean they have terrible intentions, are terribly stupid, or whatever else. We will keep a close eye on this thread. We don't want to stop discussion, but we will have to close it if there's too much abuse, since there's only so much mods can do to keep up. We think there have been plenty of civil and reasonable posts as well as some excessive ones, so we hope the former that is the majority keeps up. -
I gave them a lot of money, they gave me a wonderful game (for me). I'm pretty happy with that situation. But all of us will differ on that. Objectively speaking, "bugfest" is a joke - having been around on launch day for Morrowind / Oblivion / Skyrim, NWN1, every Obsidian game, Dragon Age: Origins, Fallout 3, etc., etc., this is a very polished release. (Remember Morrowind's utterly random hard crashes wherever you were and whatever you were doing, or Fallout 3's script errors and giant floating exclamation marks? Or, yes, KOTOR2's ending?) Not to mention the last 2 Obsidian games were universally acknowledged as polished and not-buggy.

Steam forums are always a separate community - I can't moderate posts on that forum, for example, nor do I even know who does. (I think Obsidian as developer can make requests, but even they don't control what goes on there, Valve does.) Those comments would obviously not be permitted here is all I can say. -
I like "only special items" crafting of BG1/2 and I also like POE/NWN2/etc. style control over enchantments and crafting - but for the latter it has to be easy to manage instead of trekking back to an alchemist's table every time and manually sorting through 500 ingredients, like you do in NWN2. POE makes it as simple as possible. If a different crafting system was an 'insult' to gamers I guess you feel insulted when you order a diet coke and you get it in a glass not plastic cup...

Everything they make is theirs except for the customary cut to Steam and GOG, and a little bit to Paradox as distributor. This is contrast to publisher model, where the publisher would take all the money then maybe give Obsidian a bonus. We don't know how many units have sold, and they'll have lost at least 100k sales due to KS backers and their friends, but it does seem like they're poised to make a very healthy profit. I'd think that 500k+ sales would represent a slam dunk.

You can just try and beat the dungeon with two rests + camping supplies you find inside the dungeon + resting spots you find inside the dungeon. Most places are designed so that if you rest after 3-4 battles, then you have enough resting resources to not require backtracking. You can rest after every single battle if you want and spend a lot of time going back and forth, but the game is not balanced around that. It's a cheese option. If you still want to do it, no problem, but it makes the game a lot easier. Anyway, I'm in Act 2 so far and there hasn't been any dungeons where I can't backtrack.

Very dark maps
Tigranes replied to Idara's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Not me. Fiddling with brightness & gamma doesn't work? -
Level 4 for those challenges would suggest that you've rushed forward without exploring several areas and doing several sidequests. Defiance Bay should have enough sidequests alone to take you to Level 5, for example. Just like early D&D, every single level - and the money you earn to upgrade even a single weapon - makes a big difference. There's also crafting and enchanting, by the way, though you may well be using that already.

You don't have to minmax every single character, and you also don't have to engage every single enemy. Right now I'm going about with a ranged cipher, Sagani, Durance and then just Eder up front, and given all the hobbling, paralysing, dominating and knockdowning around them, half the time I don't need any tanks. Of course, then there are points where I wish I had two. It's nice that the game gives you a variety of challenges so you can't rinse and repeat the same thing all day long.

Yep, a barely working hotfix or a poorly tested hotfix would be disastrous. All of you would be back here complaining, your games would be in a worse shape, and it'd take longer for devs to finish a proper fix. It's the weekend, even if Adam is looking at it in his own time he's not going to say "I stayed up all Saturday night and called 5 other people to work, it's ready piping hot guys".
-
Devs have said previously that they'd have liked to have party AI but weren't able to fit it into the release. This doesn't guarantee it'll reappear in a patch or expansion, but the intent might well be there. If handling 6 characters is too much you could just adventure with 3 or 4 - and put down the difficulty to match if necessary.
-
They did release a Day 1 patch. Bugs happen with every game on the planet, though you might not experience many of them. Last 2 releases from Obsidian were universally praised for almost zero bugs. *shrug* Saturday night is the worst time to discover a bug, since every fix risks breaking something else. Hopefully it's a simple one to figure out and hotfix. May be OK if he still has distant advantage, since it seems to get rid of all or none. Press P while in stronghold, or talk to an innkeeper and click on the party tab. That's how you switch party members for whatever reason.
-
Alright, so it definitely does look like: ->Double-click does kill class-based active effects like Defender, doesn't seem to kill attribute effects ->For party members everything is restored by dismissing and recruiting them, e.g. Alroth's Distant Advantage that he lost 10 hours ago Funnily enough my Moon Godlike Cipher never began with any active effects, and the focus-based talents I took aren't affected, so I can continue on. But hope the real fix comes out soon - good to see Adam's post.

my extras?
Tigranes replied to like00111's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
They should show up in your steam page for the game. You can try verifying game files. If they show up but they don't install properly try unclicking and reclicking them. Once addons like the almanac are downloaded, you can find them in the POE folder in steam. If they don't show up on steam at all, and you are a backer, go to the backer portal page to get them. -
Can't replicate it. I used double-click several times in my save so far, and my PC still has the proper spread of attributes (which includes Godlike racial & background changes). But maybe I lost some active effects at the very start of the game and I never noticed? I'll start a new game later and check. It's not gamebreaking but it's certainly an annoying bug for those who have it, hope it gets addressed soon.
