Least Liked Companions

Ah, "Astrid" from Skyrim. She did one of the PC voices as well, I think. -
Statue of Yenwood
srlapo replied to Jojobobo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
Whispers of Yenwood was the (slightly cursed) sword from the Keep's warden. Resolution was the Earl's family sword. -
How do you get Aloth's Side Quest?
srlapo replied to GadgetSun's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
If you didn't have him with you during the Woedica's Temple you can still get the quest by talking to him after that. -
The all Priest challenge?
srlapo replied to Nexus0's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Magran's priests are pretty decent with swords and arquebuses thanks to the inspired flame talent. And with the right talents and stats anyone can tank, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. 4 riflemen and 2 sword and shield front liners is how I would go. -
Without spoiling... Per, Int and Res are the most used for good dialogue choices, like alternate quest endings or bypassing some quest requirements. Most Mig choices are for intimidation, with some brute force problem solving mixed in (this can usually be done by a companion), there are few Dex choices and they didn't do much and I think I only saw one Con choice for a unique weapon, and you can send a companion to do it. Oh, and while we are at this, the lore skill is the one that gives most of the dialogue choices, mechanics gives a few and athletics is used for fatigue and to avoid injury in some scripted events. No idea what survival does for dialogues and scripted scenes, I never put any points in it.

Having her hold the aggro means that I can focus Eder as an Estoc specialist and off tank. Both are good at the sword and board tank role, but Eder is much better at the DPS role. Of course if you are worried about performance you are better off with custom companions, the story ones are quite bad with their stat allocation, and bird girl takes the cake on that department. In fact she mentions that she failed the physical tests of her order several times, as she was chosen because of her godlike status, not because of her (lacking) competence. In any event, she has two weapons slots and if she is playing front line then there is no point in giving her a ranged weapon. Give her a one handed plus the buckler and a 2 handed weapon and switch as you need one or the other.

As I recall amplified wave was a good opening power for that kind of fight where you can't hold a line and have to engage chaotically all over the place. Of course, your cipher needs to be at least level 11 to use it. One of the teams I am currently running is composed of 6 ciphers... I am looking forward to see what they can do with that fight.

After they broke past my tank (too many disables to hold them reliably) I just switched my whole party to melee weapons and let them slice and dice (and crush and stab) them. I kinda ignored/counter charmed the dominated members and simply did the fight as usual. That monocle "hat" and some bracers I had that also had the power gave me 3 members that could counter charm and really helped. I ignored the boss until the adds were gone, then just CC and mobbed him. And one thing I avoided was hazard area attacks, like traps or the druid's lightning storm. With all the switching allegiances those would cause too much friendly fire.

Ciphers can tank very well, but it hurts focus generation a lot. I am not sure how viable that is for a POTD run. Works fine on hard, I am currently running a 6 cipher team, and one plays the tank role. Most fights are easier than with more "balanced" teams. As for DPS melee cipher, build it like a melee rogue, they have the same endurance/health and play more or less the same.

Annoyed by the end of Act 2
srlapo replied to Scimon's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
But... they weren't. Even before my character left the city I spotted a dozens member saving some animancers from the riots because of my dialogue choices in the palace talks. And those choices sure affected the ending slides, as news about it were eventually heard by everyone in the city -after- the riots ended, shifting the blame to the leaden key and absolving the animancers. -
Broken quests in Act 3

Finding the hunter's body is not enough to continue the quest, keep looking. -
Any need for that? You can't just press print screen so seeing as I had my cheap camera beside me I thought I might just sue that. Why be so cynical it's not a good way to go through and it won't endear you to too many people. Print screen works, but it stores the image in the copy-paste memory instead of an image file. After using it you need to fire up the old paint program and use the paste button and then save the image. Depends on your gear and level, once you get to 5+ the fight should be easy.
