last i looked, level one spells are supposed to be per encounter starting at level 9, and level 2 starting at level 12. do your spell numbers not refresh ater battle? you don't get unlimited casts, mind, it just makes them per encounter instead of per rest.

I'm still running release version, and it is a one use per rest item, like all summon items. I notice some per rest items require you to equip them and then rest to activate the first time. and some require you to rest, and then save and reload in order to activate. so.. try that? put the cloak on. rest. save and reload.

Graphic Card Questions
Ichthyic replied to jagastelum's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
naw. plenty of other applications simply... don't. in fact, of the few applications that do, almost all of them are based on the Unity engine. not kidding. I already use openhardwaremonitor (which is better). -
first time these boots triggered for me was when I got hit with insect plague... that was pretty funny. ...endless consecration.

well, with a few chromatic orbs mixed in, for level one spell that gives uber paralysis once you hit what was it? like level 6?

Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
Ichthyic replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
...which still require a license to do from the people who now own WoTC, if someone is doing it commercially instead of "mod" style. -
EI Mod and my opinions
Ichthyic replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
the last update was a bug fix for bugs that got introduced with the previous version (that added the walking ability). not new content. it's quite possible that they no longer plan to add any new content to it. -

btw, for anyone interested in modding PoE, there are some helpful tips the authors of this mod linked to: https://bitbucket.org/Bester/poe-modding-framework/ again, don't panic, this game is quite popular enough already that there will be plenty of modders jumping on board once the patches stabilize a bit. -
Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
Ichthyic replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
uh, they can't. in fact, no commercial entity trying to make a crpg has permission to do so at this point. this is in fact, the main reason PoE is not Baldur's Gate 3. I for one welcome diversity, and would actually wish this game to be even FURTHER from the DnD ruleset than it is. vive la difference! -
EI Mod and my opinions
Ichthyic replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
don't fret. this is exactly what should happen. in a month or so, when the patches are stable, some balance issues have been adressed... and then readressed, then it will be worth revisiting modding. right now the game is still in flux, and that makes it too frustrating for most modders to deal with, as there is a never ending stream of people wanting them to adjust to this "new little thing that just got added"... the game is interesting enough that modders will start adding lots of adjustments and content as soon as the patches stabilize. -
Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
Ichthyic replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
IIRC, didn't someone redo BG in the NWN engine? for those interested in a more graphic experience, I bet they would like that. -
Baldur's Gate in PoE's engine
Ichthyic replied to Gwynbleidd's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
um, the "engine" is just the Unity engine. anyone can build their own game using it, and for most of us, it would be free. you want to redo BG in unity? go for it. In fact, in about 10 years even a single person could do it in their spare time. -
I went with an orlan paladin built as a primary tank and never regretted it, both for combat and for conversations. you can set both perception and resolve to 20 right at the start on an orlan, give them a bit of intellect, and you're on your way. I think I went: 6, 10, 6, 20, 13, 20 or somewhere close to that. use an arbalest for an intial damage hit in combat using flames, then switch to sword and board and go tanking while your teammates shovel out damage. your ultra high perception and resolves scores make you nearly untouchable, especially as you level up and your faith and conviction scores get ever higher from all the conversation options that will bost your preferred disposition, and they also help with almost all conversations in the game. rest at the inn in defiance bay that gives a +4 boost to int, and you also can pass nearly every intlect check in the game, plus it will increase the radius of your zealous aura choice by a significant margin. I thought the low strength would make me not enjoy this build, but I was wrong, it's an awesome paladin build.

also, you can use stealth with your wizard, and paralyze ogre druids with the level 2 spell fetid something... and the level 2 priest spell that supresses afflictions works for your whole party, not just one target, and you can refresh it for as many times as your priest can cast a level 2 spell. also, there are protection scrolls (again level 2) that you can make/buy/find that reduce the effect times. also, noxious burst (level 3) works fantastically on all ogres, both the damage (ogres are very weak to corrode) and the efect (sicken). all that, aside from the confusion or charm being useful. charm works best on a regular ogre though, as they have very low will scores. then just send it to pound on the druid. ogre druids are tough, but there ARE many many ways to deal with them, and these are just a handful of the possibilites.

I disagree that wizards have a worse spell selection that druids. -they have more powerul damage spells at almost every level than a druid does -the have more effective crowd control spells, again, at almost every level -they have better and more varied single-target damage spells -they have almost as many aoe spells as the druid, and most of those actually do MORE damage. I don't think people are really paying attention. example: compare the spells at level 5 in their respective books. wizards cone of cold spell (which is what they would call it if not for WoTC) does more damage than anythign the druid can dish out. I often find myself spending more time figuring out what a good druid spell to cast in a fight would be vs the wizard, because he has so few good single target spells, and most of his aoe stuff also damages party members. like druids in DnD though, his call lightning spell is bloody awesome though

Unique headgear all use the same icon
Ichthyic replied to dherve10's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
also, the hat that is a monocle (the one with the will boost and charm cast) also has the standard helm icon. but no, not all of the unique hats have the helmet icon. enough of them do that it might indeed make someone think so though. -
I'm still running the release version, and it works like pi2repsion described; sometimes the button shows "assign" instead of "recall" when I already have someone assigned to it, but the text shows who actually is assigned to it next to the button. but otherwise, I've never had an adventure fail to complete. 12 adventures, ranging from minor to legendary. must be a new bug with 1.03.

Console commands not working
Ichthyic replied to NoQuitt's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
actually, you shouldn't be thanking gog. they just slow crap down with their inane in house "testing" procedures, which actually tend to break already functional patches more often than not, and then THEY have to go and try and fix their mistakes, on top of whatever issues there are with any base patch the developer sent. it's a really, really bad system. I'm tired of all o them. steam and gog. I've decided to start only supporting developers that control the distrubtion of patches internally. obsidian isn't getting another penny of my money until they start doing it this way. I know it can still be done, there are in fact devs that still do this.
