Just reached the ogre cave fight
Ichthyic replied to Mungri's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
too many walls used as aoe spells. walls, while they do good interrupt, are easy to move out of in an open space like this and do relatively little damage to ogres per tick. you're better off using disabling aoe's like chill fog, slick, noxious burst (especially), or confusion (which is just brutal)... and since you're level 9... malignant cloud would be better than firewalls. that's not even counting the myriad druid aoes like storms. also, did you not even try to heal your guys during the fight? use potions? anything? how did you get THIS far? -

reputation effects
Ichthyic replied to Ichthyic's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
I see new messages from common townsfolk, but can you recall anything new that opens up in any town because of a rep change? I can't. that said, OUTSIDE of town, some things change. dyrford village, for example, both questgivers on the way into town have their dialogues affected by your reputation. first and only specific thing I have noticed. -
Treasure chest is empty after adventure
Ichthyic replied to jjftw12's question in Pillars of Eternity: Technical Support (Spoiler Warning!)
fwiw, I've done over 12 adventures, and it always says "rewards are in the chest" regardless of whether the reward was experience or reputation. when it DOES say the rewards were cash or items, there was always cash or items in the chest. btw, by "items" AFAICT, it usually means reagents of some kind, rarer reagents when it says major vs common reagents when it says minor. haven't seen any actual equippable items come from any of my adventures. so, if you have the botanic gardens and the curio shop built, you might not think you got anything if all you see is plants and parts... but you did. -
yup, even with 20 int, the bonus this gives is very slight. basically, aoe for a chanter, being centered around himself for the most part, really should be larger, or at least more heavily influenced by somethng like this item. frankly, don't think it would be overpowered if it was set to 1.5 instead of 1.2.

yeah, gotta agree with the OP. This was not a well done quest in the end. nothing really comes together, you can't talk to Gabranos (if it's even him), and you'd think that even if the tablet is in pieces, it would be enough evidence to support Kana's original contention back at home. but.. no. it just kinda fizzles there, and it felt very unsatisfying. well, at least you get a decent wand out ot it.

game version is release (1.02) was in the blacksmith shop where you get the shield. tested by attacking party member. -without enchant, get the secondary bash enchant -enchanted to fine, no longer got the secondary bash. later, after reaching Defiance Bay, enchated the same shield up to exceptional.... and bashing returns. go figure.

has someone documented the effects of reputation gains in the various towns in the game? nothing seems obvious. expected to see things like price drops and whatnot, but most vendors don't seem to change prices based on rep. anyone notice something speciific?

EI Mod and my opinions

EI Mod and my opinions
Ichthyic replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
and all those IE games he likes were based on the DnD ruleset... duh. still seeing serious fail in his argument. it's time to move forwards, not backwards. -
you know, people even who just like to play the game like that have "full rights" too. you shouldn't just assume this has anything to do with just people with specific disabilities. again, it was such a popular request for the IE games, that it was added as a seperate mode for the enhanced versions.

there are actually 3 other threads like this that I am aware of. there is definitely interest in something like a story mode for this game, and it seems more likley someone will kludge together a mod for that than that the developers will end up doing it in the near term. I'd recommend going to the Nexus Mods forum for this game and suggesting it as a mod. In the end, it probably wouldn't be that diffficult to do, provided like most games like this, there are generalized data tables you can adjust for the entire game, and not just per combat or creature.

wrong. they even added story modes to IWD and BG, specifically for people who want to play for the story and visuals. for this game, as others have mentioned, you can use the console to make it so you take no damage in any given combat. just open the console, and type: GodMode the rest of the commands and instructions are here: http://rien-ici.com/iemod/console that should get you through any of the fights you are finding difficult. all that said, I don't expect a real story mode for this game to be released for quite some time; could be months at least.

EI Mod and my opinions
Ichthyic replied to Mdalton31's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
before the sensuki fan club rolls on, I still find the argument about engagement seems to ignore all the AOO stuff that exists in a lot of DnD games sorry, but it really isn't much different, and I disagree that sensuki is on to anything here. there was an AOO penalty if you tried to move through bad guys in most DnD combat games, as there should be. what sensuki wants is NOT anything like DnD combat. sorry, thumbs down. just going on record with this. -
Endless Path Level 10
Ichthyic replied to ARO's topic in Pillars of Eternity: Stories (Spoiler Warning!)
did you try the walkthroughs here: http://guides.gamepressure.com/pillarsofeternity/guide.asp?ID=29955 I just finished level 8, so haven't gotten that far yet. -
you mean... like a scepter? becuause those are, in fact, what blasting skills are attached to already in this game: wands, scepters, rods. there is no need for a modified staff, because they already did that. maybe move rod from noble to peasant (since noble has scepter already), and make unarmed a general class everyone gets at startup. then your staff users can use a staff, or a rod, and the rod gives them the blast ability if they are a mage.

it's early yet. give the game a month or so before whinging about OP/UP classes and abilities. I'm still playing the release version, and the only thing with the wizard I found needed nerfing they already did in the very first patch, though they did it wrong IMO. slick was just too good, but changing it to single effect per cast was stupid IMO. just lower the accuracy on it so more enemies save. simple. actually I did find it kinda odd that most spells have an accuracy buff attached to them. feels kinda kludgy. in fact, I think the ONLY thing you need to do to tweak the wizard... is simply remove the accuracy buffs off of most of their spells. that would pretty much do it. ...or, leave the accuracy buffs as they are, and have that be the state for "normal". on "hard" remove half the accuracy buff, and on POTD, remove the rest, or even give a penalty.
-
I've been heavily inclined to do a barber shop quartet run with 4 chanters on POTD, all using different focuses and different chants. see if I can get some kind of harmony going. will have to wait until they get a stable patch and a third round of balance changes in though. I'm guessing about a month for that to happen.

I had heard that. thought maybe they fixed it, but guess not. I recalled ogres had more hps than drakes (by about 50!), plus they do massive crush damage (more damage than drake, per attack, though I think drakes have two attacks), so 2 ogres it is then. I'll take nearly 600 hps in distractions over 230 any day. the stat boosting invokes look good as well, but there are potions and scrolls and regular spells to make up any slack there.
-
ok, so phantom is great at level 1, and I have used the stun wave often enough, plus who doesn't like maggots bursting out of bodies and massive crush damage? paralyze and summon wurms at level 2, what about level 3? summon drake, or summon 2 ogres? I'm thinking the ogres will both do more damage and be more of a nuisance to targets, since there's 2. I hear the invoke that does the 7-way frost beam is bugged? any other level 3 choices people like?

there's another way to get the ability with your walker. there's a ring called "Orlan's Bramble" which gives you the arcane dampening ability. also +1 intellect. using it on my paladin as I write this. I can't recall where I found it unfortunately, but it was either a find or a reward, and i *think* I recall finding it during the time I was doing the 3 missions after you find the leaden key. either the tower or the sanitarium. on the down side, it's a per-rest ability only, instead of per encounter, but at least you can use it. also, if you don't care about achievements, or are using the IEmod, you can just give your paladin the deprive talent using the console. for balance sake, you can remove whatever talent you chose instead. edit: I looked at all the wikis, but cannot find an entry for the Orlan's Bramble Ring, so cannot confirm where it is found. if anyone recalls exactly where they found it, post it on the wiki or here somewhere?
