Sword of the Stars
Been craving a new 4x space game ever since MoO3 came and left with a disappointing experience? Well, SotS just released a demo of their new 4x game. Whether it will put another nail in the coffin of the genre like MoO3 did, or give it some new life -- I have no idea (still getting the demo). The demo weighs in at 226.8MB links: www.fileplanet.com www.3dgamers.com www.vgpro.com

Why are starfighters always manned?
I'm not sure why they put the blanket ban on the word "****". Just a list of some of the other words netted as well, these words also have more definitions -- I picked one definition per word to keep it short. (everything is from www.dictionary.com) **** -An adult male chicken; a rooster ****ade -An ornament, such as a rosette or knot of ribbon, usually worn on the hat as a badge ****ed -The position of the hammer of a firearm when ready for firing ****er -A ****er spaniel ****led -Any of various bivalve mollusks of the family Cardiidae, having rounded or heart-shaped shells with radiating ribs. ****y -Overly self-assertive or self-confident

What are you playing now?
It's really fun to watch when they get a limb stuck in the terrain and their body flies away some distance, you get some very strangely deformed corpses.

On My LifeDrive
I'm wondering, how does the interface handle without the wireless keyboard (inputting text and such)? Also, how well does it display web pages, are things hard to read, squished text, etc.?

Crysis System Requirments
I wonder if those jaggies are enhanced by the absolutely horrible compression on the picture.

Why are starfighters always manned?
In many movies there's often a lot of small starships very long distances from any sort of possible command station, this would make controlling them remotely very difficult -- but now that I think about it, they often have (magical) real time comunication anyway .

Information on Digipen
What they offer: http://www.digipen.edu/main/Degree_Programs I have a friend attending Digipen right now. As far as I know, he likes it and hasn't had much trouble fitting in. They do seem fairly oriented towards the gaming side of things, and that's what a lot of the attending students have in mind. I'll see if I can remember to ask him about it the next time I talk to him. I myself am rather distrusting of private schools after I had a bad experience with a certain one. I know I shouldn't judge them all in the same light, but it's ended up turning into a bit of an irrational fear for me.

Valve's Portal demonstration
Get the original portal game, Narbacular Drop, here (www.nuclearmonkeysoftware.com) It's short, but fun. Valve liked it enough to hire the entire team to make a new game based on the same concepts, except using the source engine. It's definitely looking like I'll buy this one.

Problem on Linux
If you have an ATi card you're screwed. If you have an Nvidia card you're better off -- but there are probably better forums to ask this question.

What?! No mention of mounted combat?

Valve's Portal demonstration
The portals don't look as nice though.

Valve's Portal demonstration
It wouldn't work on many of Half Lifes current levels -- allowing one to get outside where the level designer intends results in some pretty ugly scenery. The level designs would have to all be completly enclosed, like seen in the movie, or very open ended like Ovlibion. Making an FPS with free roaming could be done, but it would be a very different experience, not like the Half Life games at all.

Gears of War
At least they opted to not add a lingerie wearing anorexic girl with breasts the size of her head (to the chagrin of many fans I'm sure <_<).

Gears of War
The graphics look nice, but when I watch the gameplay trailers I'm reminded of whack-a-mole for some reason.

Core 2 Duo (Conroe) the new king
They're bringing two socket motherboards down to the consumer level and will be cutting prices. www.pcmag.com Sounds like they'll also hop on the cheap marketing tacticts bandwagon. If they haven't already with the "4x4" platform <_<. Shouldn't it be "2x2"? Let the wars of inflatable numbers begin.

Unflinching Triumph
I just wanted to share one of the most interesting movies I've ever come across. "Unflinching Triumph" -- a documentary on professional stare down The entire movie is free to watch from: www.unflinchingtriumph.com So.. is it real? At first I thought it couldn't be -- there's no way something like that could be true. However, I soon started doubting myself when I ran across www.prostaredown.com and Philip Rockhammer's Myspace page. Though, upon closer inspection and after completely watching the movie, I've reinforced my original beliefs of it not being real. The most unique thing is not only all the work and effort put into the movie through good production values, but also the work done into supporting the movie through various websites and other means. Color me impressed.
