Delays mean that it's not on schedule -- not on schedule means that the poor OBS employees are probably working 60+ hour weeks without overtime pay . That is, if they're like the majority of game developement companies.

Who says games aren't getting more expensive?

With the Trek teleporter, life is not being created and life is not being destroyed -- it is simply being moved around. The system proposed in this thread creates a life and takes one. Even if there was no delay or coexistance of the beings, it's still what the system is doing. I would use the ST style teleporters.

My argument has nothing to do with the soul. It's simply the clone is self aware -- as are you before you get vaporized. While you are still alive you feel nothing the clone feels, sense nothing the clone senses, see anything the clone sees. You are entirely two separate individuals. I just don't see how one can claim a separate individual as themselves. As I said before though, a third party observer wouldn't notice a difference. The clone wouldn't notice a difference either as from his/her perspective they were transported succesfully. The only person who would notice would be the one about to be turned into recyclable materials.
-
The clone may share your memories but is not you. The clone is created on the other end, at that very moment you're still standing in the teleporter waiting to be vaporized. From the perspective of you yourself, you haven't been transported at all. From the perspective of you the clone, you have. But that's two completely different perspectives, meaning that it's two different people -- even if at that moment in time they are similar in every way. You die, someone just like you lives on in your place. From an observing 3rd party though, nothing will have changed.

I'm surprised by the frame rate improvements, doesn't really make sense to me. The ping results are pretty much what I expected though. I'd really like to know how they benchmarked the FPS. I take it they had two different people playing on both computers and took the average FPS (very poor benchmark)? Or did they try to put load on the network and then run a time demo.. or.. or.. lacking so many details .

It raises some interesting questions. Is it you that's being killed when you teleport or is it someone else? Are you really you anymore when you're really a clone or a different entity entirely? Does the other you still have a right to live? Things like this can get messy pretty fast. I don't think the Startrek teleporter came with these moral dilemmas.

Apparently the script floating around is an early revision.. I read it and well, it's a cheesy boy gets girl action flick. Plot holes and nonsensical things abound, maybe they'll change some of the things.. but my guess is that it will mostly stay the same. Not something I'd go see, if it weren't for the transformers name it wouldn't have even been a blip on my radar.

I don't think there was a vanilla version for the PC. Just the Xbox version and the PC version. The Xbox version did lack the commentary mode though, and some other things the the PC version had.

Intel Kentsfield (Quad Core) Benchmarks
LostStraw replied to angshuman's topic in Skeeter's Junkyard
Well, there's lots of software written to utilise multiple cores. The problem is, very little of it exists outside of the professional realm (graphic design, servers, etc..). I figure we'll start to see multithreaded PC games sometime soon, especially with the advent of both the XBox 360 and PS3 using multiple cores. Thinking about it, much of the software existing today wouldn't benefit from being multithreaded. Even if it would benefit from being multithreaded -- many applications wouldn't even need the extra power. Notepad at 500 FPS . -
Intel Kentsfield (Quad Core) Benchmarks

Intel is really trying to keep AMD on their toes, but it does seem a little rushed. I guess they're trying to take the steam out of AMDs "4x4" system -- I can't wait to see how they perform against one another . One problem I see with AMDs solution is whether the low end versions of Vista will support it or not. With windows XP -- the "home edition" only supports one processor while the "pro edition" supports up to two. I figure Vista might also be doing the same with its 5 or so different versions. -

According to Meta's equation, you were right the first time. a = (v - u) / t solving for t: t = (v - u) / a putting the numbers in: t = (30.6m/s - 22.2m/s) / 1.6m/s/s with rounding errors > 5.25s -
For not over clocking anything, I'd go with DDR533 (I like having a 1:1 ratio between my FSB and ram). For mild overclocking I'd go with DDR667. It'll get you from (in GHz): E6300 1.86 > 2.33 E6400 2.13 > 2.66 E6600 2.40 > 3.00 While maintining a 1:1 ratio between the FSB and ram. How important is it to maintain that 1:1 ratio? I really don't know (but it gives me warm fuzzies inside). You wouldn't get any noticible benefit of going with DDR800 and underclocking it -- but at only 40$ more, it might be nice for the assurance that in the future you could have the possibility of being able to overclock it more and still have that 1:1 magic (that really didn't sound reassuring). It would also be a little more future proof when upgrading at a later date (with DDR3 coming though... ).

Maybe that has something to do with the XBox360 deal. This is that card I've had my dreams set on for years: http://students.washington.edu/lzone/bf3d2000.jpg

I'd rather have the "surprise" be in the NPC's actions/dialogue -- not my character's actions/dialogue.

Even though I know next to nothing about networking, there were a couple of points I got from the article: 1. Vista will not have an instantaneous adoption. 2. It wont even perform an IPv6 query if the computer running it has an IPv4 address. (how many people will be using an IPv6 address when Vista is released?) Even if there was a magical explosion in traffic, the DNS servers would be upgraded in no time flat. It really does sound like the guy is trying to get some extra sales for his company. I predict the tubes will remain clog free and butterflies will flutter in green pastures.

Don't worry -- they're not including a HDMI cable with the unit anyway. http://www.eurogamer.net/article.php?article_id=67315
