What Style of Helmets are going to be in the game?
dukeisaac replied to Vasculio's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)They have confirmed a toggable hide head and cloak slot. Rejoice ! Apart from that, I hope there will be more than just helmets but a wider variety of headgear : caps, over the top hats, wreaths, small crowns or diadems, etc...

Okay so Here is What Actually happened with Obsidian Writer that "Resigned"
dukeisaac replied to CaesarCzech's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This whole series is idiotic. People with agendas speculating about what maybe happened with a company they have no inside knowledge about. Simplest explanation : there's no conspiracy, one less writer wont change the overall quality of Deadfire and no, Obsidian isnt going "mainstream", whatever that means. Relax and take a long hike in nature. It'll do you a world of good.

Player sexual companion
dukeisaac replied to Aleh1811's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Here's what I want for relationships (including romance) in Deadfire : no hand holding. When I first played BG2, I didn't show empathy to Aerie because I knew it would lead to romancing her, no, I did it because it seemed like the right thing to do in the circumstances and went well with me roleplaying my PC. Same thing with Viconia in my second playthrough (years later), I found her arrogant and wanted to show her that there was an alternative to her worldview. In no way were there little hearts to help me choose the romance path. Deadfire should do the same, let players choose naturally how they want to answer, without letting them know in advance how NPCs will react. A diagram that records your actions is fine, I just prefer being faced with the least amount of meta information in dialogue. It makes for a richer and more fulfilling experience. Fifteen years later, I still remember these games in part because of the dialogue and the companion relationships. THAT'S what I want for Deadfire (which I'm sooooo looking forward to, my wife is going nuts)

Loading time
dukeisaac replied to PangaeaACDC's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I would have been very happy with only 8 seconds... sometimes (especially on boot) it took up to 30-45 seconds.

PoE II at E3 2017.
dukeisaac replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Inspirations are buffs. They standardized buffs, so now each buff spell gives you an inspiration. These inspirations have opposites that can be used as counters. Oh, I get the idea and all (its a good one too) but what I meant was more detail : how many, which ones, etc. I'm just hungry for more detail. Lucky for me, I'm starting a new contract and travelling soon, so I'll have other things on my mind than foolish video games.

PoE II at E3 2017.
dukeisaac replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)New video from Update 36 on Fig yall. Nothing new really, but still interesting. I actually would have like Adam to explain or at least acknowledge the different "inspirations" or state that are affecting party members (aware, concentrated, etc).

Josh Sawyer's tweets and teasers
dukeisaac replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Same here. I actually just recently finished Durance's quest (after 6 playthroughs, I know) and yes, he was well written and interesting character, but not my favourite (Eder and Sagani take the prize). Greaving Mother was ok, I feel she was too esoteric to make much of an impact. Everything so far (including WM1&2) indicate that Deadfire is going to be amazing. If you want MCA, wait for Pathfinder (and even there, he plays a minor role, despite the marketing).

dukeisaac replied to AndreaColombo's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah... Honestly, the MCA this, MCA that is getting old. He made incredible games, I get it, but today, it seems he's more of a marketing tool than anything else. Yes the writing in POE1 could have been better, but I think the team has acknowledged that and will work harder in Deadfire (ie Fenstermaker interview in the Codex). Frankly, was the writing that amazing in Numenera? As far as I know, no, it had the same problems as POE1, namely, not enough editing due to time constraints.

Quest Journal in Deadfire
dukeisaac replied to Osvir's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)+1 for journalist mode. Something I like doing is taking my own notes, especially when I have to remember phrases or puzzles (ie bluffing your way into Woedica's temple, or entering Durgan's Battery). Unfortunately, you don't always have to because the dialogue tree and quest journal often make it too easy. I would welcome a toggable "journalist mode".

PoE II at E3 2017.
dukeisaac replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Honestly, I think the price hike by Paradox and the subsequent anger on Steam is worse than a console port... Those reviews are really bad Was there a price hike though? I haven't seen any evidence of it in America. In Canada, there was a definite price hike (from 42$ to 58$). Enough to put off a few of my friends that I've been trying to recruit...

Party Dialogue Options
dukeisaac replied to draego's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)This. For me, the change in how skills work (and how many there will be) is one of the largest mechanical changes in POE2 and we hardly know anything about it, except that there will active and passive skills, there's going to be a whole lot more of them and companions will be able to assist. Need an update on this.

PoE II at E3 2017.
dukeisaac replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Yeah, thats' my take. Say you reach 0 once, you get the broken rib debuff (action speed -35%). Then you fall at 0 again and you stack up the broken arm debuff (can't use 2-handed weapons, accuracy -50%) and so on. At some point the characters cannot progress any further because they are inefficient in combat having stacked all those debuffs up. So you know next time all will fall and it's game over. You need to rest, spent your supplies and remove some debuffs so you won't be wiped next fight. If you don't have enough supplies you need to withdraw. That is speculation of course. This is how DA:O worked more or less. Of course there's big chance I am wrong and thay have a very different mechanic. But from what I saw (characters refilling life after combat), I say they'll go DA:O. At first, I was really against the idea of changing the health/endurance mechanic, as I felt it was an elegant solution to pacing and damage. If it's as you say, I'm less worried... I guess we'll have to see in the beta. As for a general take on the videos from E3 : good stuff. - I really dig the emphasis on exploration (I hope you can change your figurine on the screen when exploring on land) - I think the slowing down of combat is a positive step, combat is generally much cleaner and easier to follow. - setting, level design and graphics look AMAZING - pickpocketing seems cool, but I hope its actually hard to do and requires tradeoffs (the example in the video seemed a bit too easy, then again, Maia is a ranger, so she's probably proficient in stealth and such) - Looking forward to learn more about the different skills (active and passive) and how they affect gameplay. One of my major gripes from POE1 - not too fond of pallegina's portrait. It looks weird the straight angle... - I'd rather the watercolour portraits appear on each side of the dialogue box, instead of on top of each other... its more... balanced - Also not fond of the ability bar... seemed cleaner in POE1 (I know, pre-alpha...) For now that's it. So, as a first cursory evaluation, Obsidian gets a respectable 83% on their mid-term. If they keep it up, they should finish in the top 5 % of the class

First solo attempt, any tips please?
Thanks, appreciate the insight. I'm playing on hard and so far, I've been able to tank a good amount of fights with the help of summons. My DPS isnt fantastic though, so I might have to work on that.

First solo attempt, any tips please?
Hi all, The development of POE2 has me eager to get back into the world of Eora, so I've decided to do at least one more playthrough before it comes out. But to add a bit more of a challenge (I've finished the game on POTD a couple of times), I wanted to try a solo game. I've decided on a mountain dwarf Darcozzi Palladini with high might, constitution and intelligence and slightly dumped resolve. Any tips on builds ? So far, I'm rocking an arbalest and sword and shield (outworn buckler is great), shod-in-faith and hermit's cap. I'm not too sure as for talents and abilities... So far, I have FOD, sword and shield, sworn enemy, enigma's charm and fires of darcozzi palace. I hesitated between sworn enemy and inspiring triumph, but I might actually drop fires of darcozzi palace for IT and take it back when I hit the White March. Any advice would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!
