v2.1.0 is now available on the Beta Branch
dukeisaac replied to David Benefield's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
I've been having that problem since POE1. It's pretty annoying, especially when I'm trying to figure out which afflictions are affecting my characters. -
Hi ! Game crashed when leaving Dunnage (King's Coffin) to the ship. Link : https://www.dropbox.com/sh/zz89tm17lcpc7bk/AAA_5CXO9UD8jBnj-a99epfRa?dl=0

A few comments on the beta for patch 2.1 : thx a lot for the performance tweaking, it's made a big difference for me I like the ability preview from the inventory screen, but it's missing the subclass spells (given to priests and druids, maybe others). You have it on level ups, so it shouldn't be to hard to do ! the new enchanting screen is ok, it needs an aesthetic pass though Good balance in general, although I think I prefer the community suggestion for full attacks rather than the current nerf Stuff I'd want in further patches : More audio (generally atmospheric stuff in the streets, in the Fort Deadlight Court, in dungeons), POE had better audio IMO bring back the cut dialogue between the Watcher and Eothas EDIT : return to POE health system (please, the game needs an attrition mechanic) Thx for your continuing support and keep up the good work ! -

Great stuff ! Any performance improvements planned in this upcoming patch ? I've noticed, like many others, that there has been a significant FPS drop since Patch 2.0. Thanks ! -
Hi Obsidian, any chance for a weekend Beta of the upcoming 2.1 Patch ? Thx !

All of the above, plus : - more fleshed out companion quests (not gonna happen, but still) - more fleshed out main story (revisiting what was cut from the interactions with Eothas would be a good start) - better relationships (a more progressive buildup, adding time spent as a factor) - difficulty pass (on POTD) for the last half of the game

I'm quite torn on how to feel about this. On one side, I totally feel for Josh and the work the team has put in Deadfire. I like the game a lot. The quests are generally speaking, very good (faction quests in particular, Atsura is an amazing character). It took some time for me to accept that, like POE, it will take many months of patching and DLC before it's the masterpiece I wan't it to be. I'm also starting to appreciate how player agency was treated in the game, especially concerning Eothas and the Wheel. On the other hand, I think the main questline wasn't particularly handled well... Between cut info that led to many thinking important lore was retconned to a short and pretty linear quest (compared to POE and the WM), I'm not super impressed by it. I recently started to DM and while I'm beginning to appreciate the difficulties of crafting a good story (and no where being good at it I think), if a lot of your players think your story isn't engaging or interesting, well... maybe it isn't. While lots of posters go overboard with their criticism, I feel there is a general disappointment among the player base. I'm really hoping that more effort is given to the narrative in the upcoming DLC's (especially the first and last one). As for Josh, take a break, you deserve it. But don't stop making these types of games, because you're good at it.

[1.1] Influence system and companion quests still a bit off
dukeisaac replied to Osra's question in Patch Beta Bugs and Support
Same issue here with Tekehu and Maia. I understand blowing up a notorious pirate while he plays his tunes is sexy, maybe they could wait until we get back on the ship. Jokes aside, I feel that these conversations need an extra variable : not just favourable or disfavourable dispositions but also in-game time. Seems to me that this would make things more logical. IE. You think the way I do / say things I like (dispositions) + I mull it over (time) = I ask if you want to take that relationship somewhere else (relationship dialogue). Long story short, companion dialogues need a lot more work. Currently, its 6/10 for me and that's because the writing is good.- 8 replies

Just a waste of time, IMO. More adventure, less companion relationship chatter, please. Well, I obviously with you. That being said, I also want more adventure, so why not both ? IMO, the story is a large part of what makes these games interesting, wouldn't you say ? A. You obviously what? I think you left out a verb in that first sentence. B. To me, those silly romances are NOT party of the story, nor are they any part of what makes the games interesting for me. Not in the least. The banter is fine. Bring on the banter. Romances, not so much (as in, not at all). 1: Lol, forgot to write "don't agree" 2 : to be clear, I'm not asking for more romances, I'm asking for more effort to be put into companion narratives (quest, dialogue, interactions between companions, etc.). Relationships don't (necessarily) mean romance.

I too really think they should expand the whole companion relationship system. For all it's hype by Obsidian, it was waaayyyy too light. In any case, they have an opportunity with the expansions as they already have to record lines with all the companions, so I don't see why not. Whether they will do it is another issue ($$$)...

Yes, as a sequl to PoE1 it is somewhat disappointed as it doesnt deliver in the area, which made me care about the sequel in the first place. However, everything else is superb, so... it’s still great? Maybe? Yeah, its an 8/10 for me. The game as a whole is definately greatish and I'm confident Obsidian will keep making it better through patching and content. I'm just disappointed by its narrative elements. Still gonna play the **** out of it... (600+ h in POE1)

I agree with pretty much everything you said. I'd add : - the main story was a let down for me. It wasn't clear what was happening, it was too short and I felt I had little to no agency during the quest. I saw some interesting points about how refreshing that is (for once, we're not some uber hero who solves everything), but I think it would still have been possible to allow some small agency (or perhaps the illusion of agency) that all comes crashing at the end, because, no, you can't tell a god what to do. - Returning companions were lackluster IMO. I only saw Eder's, Pallegina's and Aloth's quests and I was pretty disappointed by them, Aloth being the worst. Way too short. I was really looking forward to Eder's confrontation with Eothas about the fate of his brother, to no avail. I expected Pallegina to be a lot more troubled and critical following her becoming a Kind Wayfarer, but nope. In my playthrough, Aloth had little to say and the quest concerning the Painted Masks was the least interesting the whole game. As a (rookie) DM, I was pretty disappointed. So yeah, I was clearly looking for a strong narrative experience and that fell way short IMO. I'm still looking forward to the expansions (since I backed the game with way too much money) but I'll be seriously considering backing or buying further Obsidian games. Sorry, but the goods weren't as advertised...
