I'm also very much down with this. Missed crowdfunding for POE, so I want to get involved more in POE2. Just to express my preferences of what has been said so far, I really like the idea of financing a ship (whether its one filled with lost souls or even a find the lost ship kinda quest). I also wanted to increase my pledge from the premium digital, but I dont really care for the physical rewards and the higher pledges are too expensive for me. A forum ship is perfect!

Sort of, but not really. Something to keep in mind is that, while Bobby definitely is OEI’s biggest grognard, that means that, like me, he started playing A/D&D in the early 80s. In TTRPGs and CRPGs prior to BG2, spell counters were not as common. BG2 stands alone among A/D&D games in its heavy emphasis on them (arguably a few of the later Gold Box games, but even they weren’t as reliant on them). What Dave Williams (our lead system designer) and I have done is expand the keyword system and introduced counters between keyword types. E.g., Water can counter Fire. Note that Boiling Spray, which does Burn damage, has the Water keyword, but it will still extinguish a persistent Fire effect. In our Fig trailer, you may notice a shot around the 2:40 mark where barrels of gunpowder next to Pallegina explode. Only a Fire effect will ignite them, causing them to explode within a few seconds, but a Water effect can counter that. We have a reorganized Affliction system with a better set of counters to them and a redesigned Concentration/Interrupt mechanic that makes their use more deliberate and specific to combat circumstances. All of this is to say that hard defenses and counters are, broadly speaking, more of a part of Deadfire, but those elements are spread across the classes, not concentrated among wizard spells. Interesting. I like the idea of more reactivity in the environment.

Someone mentionned multiclassing in another thread and it got me wondering if it might be part of the equation. Indeed, if you can multiclass most if not all of your party, then the 6th member might be considered superfluous... Add to that the engine, pathing, AI, and considerations about in-game clarity, it migth add up to the answer. Or not.

I also prefer six. I dont buy the 'its easier to manage for the player' argument either. If you're having a hard time, then its on you. Then again, if its a question of bettter pathing, AI and such... then yeah, I guess. In any case, I feel this needs to be fleshed out more by the devs. So far, it feels like they know its going to create pushback and decided to wait before broaching the subject. Hype and all. Still pledged though and still going to play the **** out of this game. POE is my favourite game ever (casual gamer here)

BG2 didn't do that. If you imported a character, you kept the level that you had in BG1. If you had hit the XP cap in BG1 but gained additional XP above the cap, you kept the XP and leveled up sooner (maybe immediately if you had a lot of extra XP). You lost most of your items (there were a few things that you found in Irenicus' dungeon that could be changed based on what you had in your inventory). You're absolutely right, had a brainfart for a second there.... Still, I wonder how they are going to pull it off. Starting at a mid-high level (say 10ish) would be a bit weird considering what was accomplished in POE1 at the same level... Can it be that people in the Dyrwood are just weaker than their counterparts in Deadfire?

I would also prefer a return to lower levels (similar to what BG2 did). I think it ties into the story, as far as we know it, and allows devs to create reasonable progression. Frankly, how can you create a challenge fighting lowly pirates after destroying dragons and archmages without somewhat of a tune down?

The Custom Portraits Thread
dukeisaac replied to Namutree's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Would anyone be able to scale this image for me in the appropriate (lg and sm) sizes? I'm starting a female human priest and I'm absolutely incompetent in imagery... The link for the full image : http://imgur.com/a/NAFwT#30 Thanks! -

steam, will there be preload?
dukeisaac replied to apolloooo's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Great news for preload! -
I just want to mention how awesome it is to have a regular and meaningful presence from the devs on this forum. I followed a few over the years, always for games I was really looking forward to (and coincidentally also have a large and long standing fanbase) and this kind of hands on presence is really rare, IMO. Keep it up.

Good day all, new kid on the block, huge fan of CRPGs even though havent played that in retrospect. Really looking forward to this game My question, has probably been answered before, but I was wondering how much depth would in game party companions would have ie. personnality, romance, random opinions, hate talk, etc. This part was one of my favourites from BG2, I'd love how Minsc, Edwin or Viconia would just randomly spew hilarious stuff (especially Minsc). Thx!
