  1. Nah not interested, playing a paladin (RP) and i don't want to kill a family over nothing. Guess i will have to restart the game
  2. Do you remember how exactly you did that? No sons died in duel, too. I have Valera already agreeing to meet, and can get Bernadetto to agree, but if i go back to Valera with the good news they are all about the vault and won't talk about anything else... Thats probably it. Since the quest "Family Feud" was marked with two skulls, i didn't immediately return. Damn i hate timed quests. Hated them in Torment:Tides, now they poison this game too. As if everyone can play the game in one go and remember exactly when which quest started...
  3. Greetings, a long time ago i found out about some a heist plan in the "a sinking feeling" side quest. Did several quests, explored the map etc. I intended to resolve the family feud peacefully, but for some reason (despite not even telling about the heist plan), it seems to go sideways. Both parties agreed to meet, but if i go to Valera all i can do is agree to help them in the vault, or fight them immediately. Bardatto, i can snitch on Valera vault plan (again forcing me to pick a side), or not tell them anything. So, my question is, can i still get a peaceful resoultion somehow? I don't want to loose hours of progress because some minor sidequest ("a sinking feeling", not part of "family feud" main quest) ruined the whole questline for some reason. And i certainly don't want any part in an idiotic war between some minor families.
  4. If one of the tenets of your order is benevolence, its it normal to pick benevolent options. Not even always, but enough times to get to max relatively soon. For example, my paladin has every 'allowed" options except shady(3) and agressive(2) on 4 at lvl 7 -> full bonus. Wouldn't consider the bonus OP however, since i get hit and grazed plenty of times despite it (ok almost no crits, but thats about it).
  5. Don't think this one is gamebreaking since deflection is not +20. I still get hit a lot (POTD) with my paladin tank, despite sword+board, resolve bonus and other sources (currently 76 deflection total). It would be only gamebreaking if the enemies wouldn't hit anymore (they definitely do). Still one of the best sources of defense
  6. Its not that much of a handicap, in the beginning you start even (so multiclass are a bit better off), but later you start to get stronger power levels than the multiclass comparison and even later you get the best powers that are not even available to multiclass. That said, finding good combinations is a lot of fun, and power level isn't that important...
  7. If your weapon has lower penetration than enemy has armor resistance, you get -25% damage per point (up to -75% damage). If your to-hit rate is below the enemy defense, you might get only a graze (or even a miss, so you might graze with the dagger and miss with the sabre). You can hover over "penetration" and "accuracy" on your character screen for the tooltip.
  8. Ok i'll hope i find some higher level quests. So far, there was no indicator at all (not even a single grey skull). But as long as it works as intendet its fine i guess
  9. Greetings, i wonder whether i did something wrong in my level scaling options. I set it to "All" AND "Only scale upwards". I expected this to mean enemies will be adjusted if and only if they are lower level. However, all my quests have no skull indicators (for above my level) -> does anybody know how exactly this works ? Difficultiy indicators option is set to "On"
  10. Great job Obsidian! I enjoy the game a lot, didn't find any bugs so far (i won't count PoE1 savegame import due to the worldstate editor) which is honestly amazing considering the complexity of RPGs like this...
  11. Ok solved it, the initial fight tutorial actually matters and who of your crew survives is decided there. You can loose Eder and several other crew members if you are not careful... Do you mean if you save the crate instead of crewmember? Because Eder definitely survived the opening fight, and if it was that damn crate well then the consequences were not communicated to the player whatsoever No, i mean the actual fight against the pirates. Just tried a second time and actually looked who lives and dies. Eder was there when i woke on the beach after the storm now, but the lady on the ship (caught below the barrel last) didn't survive this time around, so she wasn't there...
  12. Ok solved it, the initial fight tutorial actually matters and who of your crew survives is decided there. You can loose Eder and several other crew members if you are not careful... Basically means i have to restart the game :/
  13. I wonder the same, also missing Eder. Playing on PotD and i start to wonder, was he maybe killed in the initial fight on the ship somehow (as a NPC) and i just didn't notice...?
  14. I get all options greyed out. How were you able to download it? I had a default directory in drive c: selected (smallish SSD drive), so when i changed the default install directory in GOG to another drive i was able to start install/download. Bit strange, since you can change install directory after hitting the install button. You might have another problem, but maybe it helps.
  15. You can get the digital guidebook for far less. You just didn't pick the right package/addons but with $200 you should get tons of other goodies... Edit: Ah i see you get a hardcover version. They could really add the digital version in that case...
  16. Pillars of Eternity doesn't use the D&D ruleset (nor any of the D&D settings). But if you are familiar with D&D, you will probably feel at home fast with the Pillars ruleset.
  17. Ok thank you! Just had a look at the list on the wiki - really hard to choose with so many interesting options, and there is no skillmonkey class like rogue in D&D....
  18. Greetings, i wonder what stats (if any) are most important in dialogue for getting the max. amount of lore/extra lines/secrets? In PoE1 the gatekeepers were mostly perception and intellect, with a side of resolve . Other stats are also checked often, but more to allow another path to the same result - i'm looking for more "insight" so to speak...
  19. I have good to great reputation almost everywhere, but with the exception of two dialogues in Twin Elms, this reputation never came up. Are there other instances where good reputation actually matters?
  20. Barbarian in the context of RPGs are usually a type/class of melee fighter using medium to light armor and some kind of berserker/rage feature. vs. Barbarian in terms of culture is used as an umbrella term for less advanced cultures (from the "we are so advanced"-culture's POV). Originally a word for people who couldn't speak proper (ancient) greek, so we are all barbarians i guess .
  21. No, not always. When a criticism is backed by measurements, statistics and proofs, it is objective. When it's backed by feelings, it's subjective. Ah, but usually there is lots of bias, even in seemingly objective arguments. E.g. in your example, how do you define "real work", how do you quantify (just the hours, efficiency only, goal oriented etc), what do you measure, what do you prioritize etc., How does your world-view, morals, personal agenda influence that? Etc. I do agree it's a far more enjoyable experience to discuss with good arguments and counterarguments, but i think it's more an ideal one tries to approach. So if someone says "I'm complely objective", i'm somewhat doubtful...
  22. yeah, well i think this feeling of entitlement, confusing personal opinion with universal fact, failure to provide proof/arguments etc. is just an unfortunate part of communicating (esp. on the net). I just don't think the obsidian forums are worse in that regard than other forums, actually i think they are better than many. Also, i think many just need to vent a bit sometimes (myself included) and are quite reasonable after that...
  23. Durance. Don't like him as a person, don't like his morals, disagree with his ideals. BUT amazing story, tons of atmosphere & character...
  24. "You cannot prove a negative" is an unfortunate piece of pseudologic that refers to the appeal to ignorance, but condenses the fallacy too much (so much its not true anymore). It would be better to condense it like this: "Sth. is true because there is no proof that sth. is false." -> fallacy. This would make it short without distortion of the meaning (i think) Edit: Here is a link for a more in-depth description http://rationalwiki.org/wiki/Negative_proof
