In Defense of the Story
I wouldn't mind the short main quest with little player reactivity, but also the side quests and factions provide way too little of that. You can work with all of the factions at once right up to the final showdown, nobody gets angry at you for sinking their ships without hesitation (and even parading the little victory flags around to announce it to the world), and you cannot change the course of any faction in the least (exception being one case where you can change leadership, but that's where it ends). No options to let everybody (or no one!) have a piece of the cake in the end too.

Special boats?
M4xw0lf replied to MaximilianXimenez's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)On topic of sails and hull: I'm quite sure you absolutely need the dragonwing sails and blackwood hull to pass the storm. The quest log for reaching spoiler island has updates triggered when you acquire them.

Kinda dissapointed with PoE 2 :(
M4xw0lf replied to Odoakar's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Loading screens in pillars 1 tended to get longer and longer the more the game progressed, until they were absolutely disugsting. I have not experienced the same with Deadfire, loading times are shorter in general and do not notably grow with game progress. (Running the game from an SSD, mind)

Favorite and least favorite companions + sidekicks
M4xw0lf replied to Heijoushin's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Can't pick single characters on both ends of the scale. I guess out of the new characters I like Maia the most, but that's mostly because she's useful as the rogue/mechanics guy in my party, and her stats and abilities are rather good. On the dislike end there are all the sidekicks (I have no need of companions who won't do companiony stuff like banter and react to plot events). But also here, at least Ydwin and Rekke have an interesting background... and Mirke comes with excellent taste in underwear.

(SPOILER) Which benefits a soul bound weapon give?
I feel that soul bound weapons have really suffered in PoE2. Why? Because every single unique weapon now has unique upgrades, which are often at least as awesome as the soul bound stuff, and you don't need to bind the weapon to a single character and then meet (time-consuming) requirements. In PoE1, soul bounds were the only weapons with cool unlockable special sauce. Now they are just a more complicated to use type of unique. Maybe not hte best place for it, but since I have already started: I was never fully satisfied with how soul bounds worked. Giving class specific boni is fine, but that makes them... 'class bound'. From something called soul bound I always expected reactivity to my player character's 'soul'. Right, class is welcome to make an impact here, but much more than that, I want to have the dispositions, which the game meticulously lists for us, influence the item's effects and upgrades - you are a cruel person? Corrode damage and weakening! You are stoic? Plus all defenses! Passionate? Something something fire! You get the picture, I think. I see dunehunter beat me to it, so I'm not alone with that feeling.

I've really enjoyed PoE 2
M4xw0lf replied to Gritino's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I know this is a bit out of the blue, but how long was your first playthrough? For me it was something around 30 hours iirc. Wait, for PoE 2 or Tyranny? Tyranny. Deadfire between 50 and 60.

I've really enjoyed PoE 2
M4xw0lf replied to Gritino's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)I played Tyranny at least four or five times to see every possible major path. I'd say it easily tops Deadfire on player reactivity (factions actually do care about what you do and to who...). Character system is a lot shallower than in pillars, but I still liked it. One hint: use magic. Always. Since you get XP for using skills, magic users will ridiculously outlevel melee and ranged fighters.

The gods, godlikes and speculation on the nature thereof
M4xw0lf replied to Syurtpiutha's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire Stories (Spoiler Warning!)I do believe we got a rather generic set of godlikes in PoE because they were introduced in the crowndfunding campaign very early, probably even before all the gods were written, or at least fully fleshed out. That's why the playable ones do not feel very connected to the pillars pantheon.

Should Pillars add in beauty or renown stats for dialogue options or events?
M4xw0lf replied to bgi123's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)If studies reliably find one thing, it's that variation within the sexes is way higher than between them. I.e., personalities differ way more by universal character traits than by inherently male or female aspects.

M4xw0lf replied to bgi123's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Arcanum had it, and it was great. Like mostly everything that Arcanum did. More games should be like Arcanum. Have I said Arcanum?

Is Pillars of Eternity II men hating pro feminist game.
M4xw0lf replied to Pete121's topic in Pillars of Eternity II: Deadfire General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)Incel is just a new word for virgin. Like thot is a new word for s**t. That's all it means - it's a way of shaming men who haven't had sex, or aren't "studs". Every male who has ever existed has seen this in high school - the sex bragging etc. It's in its way a very teenage word. It's just the rebirth of a very old idea. I'm not sure its accurate to ascribe political ideology to a word that just means you can't get laid. I'd personally be suspicious of any doomsdaying threat narrative article that does so, especially if peoples way of doing so is taking the ideas of some subreddit as an emergent ideological faith. You can't get by a day without some moral panic from the left about some new bogeyman - Nazi's, the far left, the alt-right, mra's, male supremicists and how they are all going to take over the world and bring about the demise of liberal democracy. I guess that's why the handmaidens tale does so well. The right used to do the same thing, banging on about satanic child abuse, reds under the bed, or how d&d turns people into serial killers. They still do sometimes. Maybe sometimes those risks are valid, but most of the time a moral panic seems to be unjustified. Personally as someone who is 40, I've got no time for people who think being a virgin is something to be ashamed of. You shouldn't seek your validation in other people, life will teach you that one way or another. Nor do I have much time for moral panics either - civilisation is probably an instable proposition anyway. Everything from food scarcity as the population grows, war, to national debt causing a global depression, to an asteroid wiping us out is always on the cards. Those threats are always there. Society is changing at a pace, and that itself could be unstable. Easier just to enjoy what you have, support reasonable thinking, and accept that not everything is in your control. It's *really* important to note that "incel" is *NOT* simply another term for a virgin. EVERYBODY is a virgin until a certain point in their lives; not everybody is an incel. "Incel" is a term *from their subculture* that is used by people to self-identify as members of a particular subculture. This subculture revolves entirely around these mens inability to obtain a sexual relationship, to such an extent that they consider "not having sex" to be a, perhaps the, *defining trait* of their life. They've developed all sorts of subcultural jargon revolving around this aspect of their lives; "incel", "a chad", "a stacy', etc. It's highly interwoven with the "pick-up artist" subculture, as the people who describe themselves as "incels" are basically the monetary bread-and-butter of the pick-up artists "self-help" career. I found this highly educational: https://www.urbandictionary.com/define.php?term=incel

Whispers of the Endless Paths
Devoted/Anything yay. Fighters are just too good atm, so you can't do much wrong. Devoted/Soulblade and Devoted/Berserker (or plain Barb) will probably give you even better dps, and also come with some optional CC - very powerful CC for Ciphers (whisper of treason, mental binding, puppet master, ringleader, mind plague, amplified wave...), light CC for Barb (carnage, shouts, terrifying presence).
