Kick it forward support?
Volourn replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's game development. There is no way for Obsidian to be 100% sure how much it will cost in the end. Not to mention the costs just to fill all the kicksratrt pledge extra like collector editions, paries, and other goodies. The way they desrcibe this game no way does it cost a mere 1.1 mil to make over the course of 2 years. Let's say 25 people are working on it and they have a low end average salary of 25k that is 1.25mil for 2 years in basic staff salaries. Does not compute. -

"Answering a prejudice with an even bigger prejudice is some kind of ridiculous.... " If you gonna play the game, go big! "I love how Vol can still get replies after creating precisely 14662 worthless posts." Why lie? "Hitler was a European. Most Americans are Europeans. = All Europeans and most Americans are Hitler." Where do you get that logic? Many Amerikans have European ancestory but they are not European. They also created the guy who killed Hitler. Give them some credit for that. " True dat. Hitler did kill Hitler. -

"Don't forget that europeans tend to be alot more polite than our american cousin" This is a lie. Europeans are more likely to be big headed, rude, and arrogant. Your post is an example of it. Then again, you guys did create Hitler. That says everything I need to know about European arrogance. -
"That is a damned if you do, damned if you don't situation. If they'd taken the easier option (in retrospect probably the sensible option too) and just done an expandalone style sequel they'd be accused of being stale and derivative and charging full price for Dragon Age 1.1" Funnily enough, that's what they were excuse of with Awakening in spite of it being an expansion and costing less. 'it's good but just more of the same waaaaaaaaa!' type whining.

"The "Where are you from" poll says otherwise. " How many voted in that poll? A handful? L0L I'm not European, and I didn't vote in that poll. A random poll on the Obsidian forums is silly and can't be trusted to cover the entire Obsidian fanbase since majority of their customers do not post here. -
Heal potions, scrolls, and spells are fine as they are useable resources but natural health regeneration (as well as mana rengeration) is lame.

I agree. XP should be rewarded for everything not just 'quest completion'. I remember in V:BL, the game was full of combat and the game got boring as it felt useless to bother fighting since you got nothing out of it. The experience should be worthwhile and rewarding and gaining xp from fighting 9as well as non combat stuff) is part of that reward 9along with loot and sense of accomplishment). That's why, again I must stress, XP should be rewarded for everything potentially. From combat to creating a potion to saving the damsel to persuading the barkeep to give you a discount via dialogue. Obviously, the easier the combat the elss xp given and the easier the non combat activity (ie. sneaking past a master assassin should reward more xp than sneaking pass a dumb, lazy, inattentive giant) while fighting that same giant in combat should reward you more. But, killing the barkeep should net you less xp than getting a discount. Capiche? Capiche. I WIN.

They didn't lie. Don't lie. Stop being unethical. Things change during the game devloping process and every single game ever created has been victimized by cuts or change of plans or whatever.

The Chosen One
Volourn replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
TNO was definitely a Chosen One. He is special and unique snowflake. Otehrs are attracted to him for no descernible reason but 'because'. He has a destiny he must meet no matter what choices he makes. That's the defintion of a Chosen One. In fact, the Bhaalspawn of BG series is less 'chosen' since the PC is one of many Bhaalspawns and he/she has no more inherit right to the Throne of Bhaal than all the other Bhaalspawn. Hell, Sarevok, if you asked him, would claim he was The Chosen One. -
Rarity of magic items?
Volourn replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"In BG1 magic was rare." No, it wasn't. Special unique magical items were uncommon but magic items were not. And, even special magic items were more common than any pnp game I played. Also, to compare BG1 to BG2 or TOB is silly since the level differences is huge. -
Rarity of magic items?
Volourn replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"Magic items were rare and special." No, they weren't. Magic items were rather common in BG. Any game where you cann buy magic items in stores can NEVER be considered 'low magic' or 'rare'. I'm fine with that. To me, there's no logic reason to go with rare magic unless you are going for an actual low fantasy 'real' world scenario. If your world is gonna have magic it's gonna have magic. -
Pixies! For ****s and giggles! We're at 5 races now but that might be increased depending on what they add to the enahnced kickstarter goals.

DA2, ME3, and SWMMO all sold 2mil+ copies and had okay ratings to very good ratings so they wer enot fialures no matter how much the cyrbabies claim it to be so. Then again, these are the same people who say DA2 was a bomb at 2mil+ but then claims that AP was a success when it sold half a mil(if lucky) *and* the publisher flat out said it bombed. EA has never done that and don't tell me EA wouldn't as EA has, in the past, had no problem stating when a poroduct was a failure. if DA2 bombed so bad they would not be making DA3. Period.

Kick it forward support?
Volourn replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"hey may be AAA developer but this isn't a AAA project. This doesn't have a AAA budget, and certainly won't have AAA distribution. Even Steven Soderbergh makes small budget films that makes a profit in between his high budget blockbusters. " Sorry dude, but Obsidian's reputation alone along with the games theya r epimping should guarantee them a huge customer base. I am assuming that they will do at least some advertising and gaming mags/sites will also cover this game unlike majority of independent games because it is an Obsidian game. It be liking saying that if BIO did a kickstarter that there wouldn't be expectations to sell x amount of copies still. Obsidian is not some rinkadink company. It's one of the major gaming studios in NA with 100+ employees. They ain't gonna be able to pay them all for the 2 years it takes to make this game with 2-3mil from KS. If the game sells less than a mil, it should be classified as a disspaointment sales wise. Anything under 500k is a travesty. -

"pretty much everything" Nah. Many games don't have chosen ones stories. Why make stuff up? -

Kick it forward support?
Volourn replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
This is Obsidian which is a high standard AAA (or AA+) developer. 100-300k sales would have to be deemed a failure when they've had games sell in the millions. They have lots of employees to pay. -

The Chosen One
Volourn replied to TrashMan's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
"i disagree that TNM in PS:T was the chosen one. he was "special", " He very much was a Chosen One. He fits the description to a tee. Nothing wrong with it eince the story should be focused on special chaarcters and 'chosen one' stories fit perfectly. That said, non chosen one stories can be awesome too. -
Teleportation
Volourn replied to Dem's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I love the fact that we may be getting some teleportation (spells wise hopefully) in the game. I lvoe that stuff. There are many ways to limit teleportation - only teleport to places you've been, a certain range, material components, areas which can't be teleported into or out of, etc., etc. -
Kick it forward support?
Volourn replied to Dalliance5's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Nah. Obsidian should be able to keep all the money they earn from a successful release. They should be bullied or shamed into giving that money away to some other loser for their sucky project. Of coruse, as above, the profit is Obsidian's to do with as they wish, so if they want to give money away so be it. -
"a) This should be a place where people who want a high mandatory difficult can prove themselves: hardest area of the game, maybe only accessible on the highest difficulty setting, so that people who want that elitist experience can push themselves." You have good dieas except this one. Content like this should never be locked down based on 'difficulty level'. Everyone should be able to play it without having to fight triple hit point enemies. If I want to play on normal or hardcore level I should be able to enjoy alla reas and not worry about 'missing out' because I don't play on SUPER DUPER MEGA DEATH DIFFICULTY LEVEL. L0LZ

"I am actually quite ecstatic with everything from Update 7. The further from D&D, the better." Eh. Nothing in that update really makes it much different from D&D. D&D tends to seperate combat and non combat skills too. And, there's different ways to give xp as well and is 100%b up to the DM. Nothing original in that update and that's a good thing 'cause sometimes creating soemthing new is not needed when the 'old' already works.

classes? at first, none.
Volourn replied to NerdBoner's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Disagree. It's assumed when you choose a class there's a reason. ie. Sorcerors were born into magic, rogues had oppurtunity to practice their skills, clerics were 'touched' by a god, warriors were in the militia. What have you. What you suggest is not an optional thing in pnp; but to me I find it just an unneeded idea. It adds very little to the experience, imo. Hopefully, there will be background options to flesh out how a character ebcame what they were.
