How's it going/what do you think so far?

SSD's don't need defragging (so hubby says anyway) so that saves some wear and tear. I do think for the average user longevity probably wouldn't be too big a concern. I'm just personally very, very hard on my drives re:data writing. But in any case, backup system/lots of redundancy is always important.

Rage is fairly fun, at least at the start. I know gameplay mechanics are very different but now that I actually have the game...it still reminds me heavily of Borderlands because of the town setups and the graphics. For some reason I'd thought Rage was going to be a bit more graphically awesome than it is, too. It looks great overall but the textures for most non-NPC up-close things are of the fuzzy sort & it doesn't put much stress on the GPU. Not that it matters to me...just surprised me because I'd thought it was supposed to be more cutting edge. I guess that was more about engine work or something. Gameplay wise, so far it has that more casual shooter aspect that I seem to enjoy. No tech issues w/latest nvidia drivers either.

Curious: is the aliasing on a lot of the non-npc straight lines because of the extra widescreen, you don't have it on, or is the game just poor at it? I like the shot on the battleship/cruiser whatever it is, with the city in the background. Very cinematic.

That long? I'm betting about 24 hours. That about says it for me, too. The crafting system has me intrigued. I have the feeling it won't be as complex I'd personally like it to be, and don't know if it'll feel useful to gameplay but still...I'm interested.

Ah what the heck, Steam has Rage for sale for $40...20 bucks off, I'm game. I'll gift a 2nd copy to hubby too and maybe we can play it together.

All these new CPU chips but my i7-920 still far exceeds what games need. Think I'm good for a few more years at least, if not more. Sometimes I'm not unhappy consoles have slowed things down re: needing to upgrade pc's for gaming. Easier on the pocketbook.

Users on Metacritic are tearing MW3 apart. Stark contrast to the "pro" reviews. Trollish angry fans I assume.....it can't be that bad, can it?

Most games these days seem to be pretty but not much else. And way too many scripted scenes in so many of them now, where I feel like I'm just watching vs. playing. *joins entrerix in the Skyrim waiting game*

Currently annoyed by all the npc tag alongs/yapping. I guess I'm not into companions in my shooters.

If by streams you mean stuff like twitch.tv or even just YT Let's Plays, I've become rather fond of people who do such without ever saying a word. Or at least not more than an occasional exclamation. It's rare that one is funny or interesting enough to be a successful chatty gameplay narrator...most of the time they end up just being an annoying hyper-speaker who's voice overrides every game sound. Edit: oh, and I read that Skyrim will be patched to version 1.1 on day of release.

They've gone up a bit here too, and availability is dropping. Just not that much....yet. I don't disagree. Don't get me wrong...for certain applications or usage they'd be more than worth the price & space sacrifice. Like, with AutoCad, or other such software say. For hubby's tech/work they make a lot of sense, for instance. But I'm just not seeing enough of an advantage for the average gamer/user (for the price), that's all. All individual files I click on open in a second and programs open in like 3-8 seconds - photo editing is still lighting fast for me. I guess having Firefox open in 1-2 seconds would be nice, but I'm not that impatient. That's a personal nitpick preference, not a necessity. The longevity is still a question mark for me as well. Considering how often/how hard I can abuse writing to discs, I'm not yet convinced the SSD would last long enough for my liking (again, for their current price). 99% of mechanical drives I've had lasted 7+ years and were still going, after a lot of abuse. So I think I'll wait for a bit more info on that too.

Beyond the sunset color scheme against a desolate landscape, which many games/movies have, I don't really see it.

Heard Andy Rooney finally died. Never a big follower of him but his bits on 60 minutes, I think it was (?) were sometimes pretty funny...my parents loved him so it's kind of like I grew up with him thru them. Last time I saw one of his segments tho, I was like "Is that guy still alive? What is he, 200?" Cya, Andy. Woke up early. Or late, if you consider DST. Take your pick. Played laser-pointer tag with cats. Noted to self that my big toe seems to have a minor infection. Thinking about doing some more PC shopping.

I'm pretty pedestrian. Pizza, loaded with meats, shrooms, olives, and jalepenos. Or anything you want. Can be vegie, can be half and half, whatever. Like the spaghetti, only I don't have to cook the sauce all day. Altho, a local store here has the most awesome slow-cooked BBQ beef ribs (I like beef ribs over pork ribs ) and cornbread.

Snow too. I've seen it. Through a tent, lol. I personally don't mind little things like that, but I'll certainly nitpick other minor things I'm sure. It amuses me all the different things we all will nitpick over in a game. Pre-ordered on Steam couple days ago. I've bought enough into the hype now to finally feel some anticipation. At the least, with all the debate, I'm really curious to see how it will look on the PC. Not expecting uber-ness but still curious. Besides, nothing else to do in winter. In terms of bugs/glitches, as long as it doesn't crash every 10 minutes, the pc loading times (saves, area, anything) don't take forever & I don't encounter any game-breaking quest bugs, I'll be content enough. I'm a lot more worried about whether I'll like gameplay.

New pets = constant trips to pet store as you try to figure out what food they'll decide is "acceptable." They own you, man, they own you. :D These cats, I swear...didn't even like fresh roast beef out of the oven. They're weird.

1TB "mechanical's" are still about $100-$150 here, while a 160GB-250GB SSD is more like $400-$500. I don't see the "SSD's aren't that expensive anymore" factor. If they get down to $400-500 for 500+GB I'll think about it. I do think about it sometimes, but 60-128GB drive isn't going to cut it for me, not even close. I have 118GB on my main O/S drive right now, and that's with no "storage" stuff on it like videos/photography/downloads etc. ... besides, my PC's Win7 cold-boot time w/a SATA is still under a minute. So yeah...not quite ready for SSD yet myself. But hubby just bought a small SSD for one of his PC's.

The Ultimate Edition (or something) was announced recently, which is basically that except it's not called GOTY. It's coming in early Feb. 2012.

If the digitally shorten a fat Simon Pegg, I could maybe see that. ....but I have a feeling I'd like an animated/anime film version/s of the books much more than a live-action one. Knowing Hollywood they'd try to figure out how to cast Justin Bieber as Regis or something. While I loved LotR film trilogy as a fantasy/action epic, to this day I still can't stand who they picked to be Frodo. Every time he's on screen I get annoyed. Something like that would happen to me while trying to watch a live action Drizzt series film and I'd start to rage and throw things against the screen.
