  1. I haven't even played any of the DA series. Or really any of the "newer" fantasy story-RPG's of the past 3-4 years.*** But I also haven't played every single old game that P.E. referenced in their Kickstarter video. I simply like certain "flavors" of games, across all genres. In terms of RPG's, all I ask is for an engaging RPG with fun exploration/options and characters that I actually give a hoot about - and Obsidian has, so far, given me that, and I trust them to do it again....regardless of whether or not they stick strictly to "old skool" or try to integrate some newer and/or original concepts within some older style workings. I guess I don't get obsessed with this or that mechanic ... which is not to say I don't have personal preferences ... it's just that I'm more interested in how the final game feels as a whole rather than what each individual piece may be. If that makes any sense. ***I am, however, still waiting for that spiritual successor to Dungeon Keeper1 that doesn't suck.
  2. Interesting concept art. I wonder what spell that would be ... simple summoning or something more akin to "Venomous Grenade of Soul Fire?"
  3. There already is an ES MMO announced .....for some reason I'd thought that had been cancelled. Maybe I had a dream during a nap one afternoon. Ah well.
  4. I'm going to hope it's not an ES MMO ... more non-fantasy MMO settings would be more potentially interesting to me ... leave ES as a single-player series.
  5. Was woken up by a severe "pound-the-mattress-with-a-fist" cramp in my calf, which left me with a sore leg all day. Haven't had one of those in a long time. Owie. Then hubby mumbled to me "I'm out of coffee," which is his way of saying "Go get me coffee, woman, before I turn into an evil ogre." So I went forth into the jungle and came back with a couple pounds of French Roast and about $180 worth of other supplies. To which hubs said "Awesome, I have coffee now!" And "Ooo! Cinnamon twists! Mmm!" My job is done.
  6. That makes more sense for her, then. I guess I can let the arrow guy pass since he's good eye candy. I do actually like the bow effects they were using and his seeming mystical ability to calculate/accurately hit a very fast moving target when he was barely even looking in their direction. I started to have the feeling he had special homing arrows or something.
  7. I always forget to use his turret...but yeah, it's a good partner. I've heard it's weak (health wise) in 2nd playthru, tho, if you don't take that skill that boosts its health. But don't know for sure. My Axton is only lvl 12.
  8. So, if you read the Bethblog bit on the topic, for some reason I'm not really getting a picture of an RPG studio. At least, not ones like ES. Maybe they want to make a new ... non-fantasy FPS-actionRPG online game. Or something. But until they announce something, it's really just guesses in the wind.
  9. I think the bow and arrow guy was the tops in that type of category, for me. At least they showed him running out of arrows....eventually. I don't really understand why those two are 'Avengers' - are they enhanced in their humanistic abilities in some way, like Captain America, or just super-skilled regular folk?
  10. Ah, I see where you're coming from now. If one does like to be "forced" to wait as a manner of difficulty challenge (or something) then yeah, that would likely be affected. How much, exactly, is hard to say without knowing the exact hours required for both cooldown (have they said?) and for average travel times. I don't think your example is cheating the system, however, if the mechanic is part of the game design in the first place.
  11. Since this may involve some "gaming" discussion, moved to Computer & Console.
  12. Because forcing you to wait is better? It's certainly not. With a resting system I can decide not to rest (if it's even possible in that specific area). With a waiting system... the line becomes much more blurry. Perhaps you'll be able to do both? If you want to regain them faster in terms of real-world time, you rest. If you want to continue exploring/being active instead of Resting for 8 hours in-game (which may have risks of it's own, like being attacked while resting), the cooldown allows you to do so while spells will still be making some progress towards becoming usable again. And if you Rest later, perhaps you won't have to Rest for as many hours for the spells? ...just thinking out loud.
  13. Are you installing it on the same O/S as before, when those tools worked? If it's Win7, have you tried installing the game in a different directory than the default Program Files one? I'd make the assumption that the Tools are expecting files to be in a certain directory with specific names and may not ever auto-detect if the game files are not in that location/name, and without the creators of the tools updating them, this will always be the case and will require fudging things yourself. Don't know of a specific answer at the moment, tho.
  14. A mixture. I like the adrenaline rush of a bigger, more frantic battle but I also like some of the strategic options a smaller fight may entail.
  15. I'd rather friendly fire be either a fairly mild thing, or a stand-alone on/off option not tied to specific difficulty-tiers. It's not that I dislike the concept of friendly fire, but when dealing with a party of 5-6 and trying to give orders in real-time pause, real-time pause, where party-AI may move/react to my commands in sudden unexpected ways, I may find it a bit more than I want to try to manage all the time. It heavily depends on the combat mechanics in the endgame, however. Like Amentep said, sometimes it works for me, sometimes it doesn't.
  16. I know about the deliver the mail timed quest. What's the other one? So I can avoid even getting it on my log? Have you found any good chest-farming spots in the later areas? It can be spots you have to fight to get to, just not the boss fights. I've been feeling a little disappointed that chests and things have felt a little lackluster. Not that I haven't found some purples and such, but most of the time chests/outhouses just have trash...and most bosses don't drop many items at once. I have the feeling we're supposed to kill the end boss and the new uber-boss over and over instead.
  17. The Avengers ... liked the attempt at more characterization, but with the ensemble cast it's pretty tough to make that work on a level that really breeds any kind of serious empathy for each one. So, I remained largely unmoved. And a trifle bored for brief moments while they were all having their tantrums. What I did like was the moments of humor, and ... Black Widow? ... her ability to "interrogate" was great. Also liked Captain America a lot more in this one than in the stand-alone film. I was, however, extremely PO'd when ...I was sad.
  18. I think Paladin's (and Fighters, to a lesser degree) in most games are pretty dull classes to play. But a lot of people like them and I have no qualms about them being in the game. It doesn't break my immersion to see one in the game or even to end up with one in my party for a while. Just not my favorite type of character. I'm not clear why some seem to think that martial arts/hand to hand combat, in terms of this game, has to = Asian? I don't even find the older man in the concept art to be all that Asian looking, in terms of, say, China or Japan, compared to the fighter or the mage (rogue?). He's just a guy with stereotypical balding crown and long hair, with a very angry, squished up face. And I don't think it's that much of a stretch to consider that this world-area may have developed a form of martial arts on it's own, independent of "Asia" or outside influence. It's not like hand-to-hand fighting is some alien, potentially exclusive concept for bipedal creatures, anymore than invention of gunpowder likely would be - this is not meant to be an actual telling of Earth history, even if they're using some concepts from it. That's the fun of fantasy, imo ... taking stuff from our world and twisting and turning it around and upside down into what if's and maybes.
  19. Going to order a pizza and watch The Avengers ... so soon I shall know what all the fuss is about.
  20. To me that would depend on the design and purpose of the spell. Magic is fantasy after all ... it doesn't have real-world limitations re: whether or not sharp/blunt/flesh makes the spell have more destructive force.
  21. There are fist weapon potentials, if they wanted to include them. They probably will have spell abilities of some sort...why not a potent soul-channeling protection spell? And it seems like I see the handle of a weapon on the Monk in the wallpaper, so I'm going to assume they can use some weapons. Flexibility seems to be a key here ... possibly if you want to be a martial-arts fist Monk, you can do that, and if you want to be a bit more of a weapon-Monk, that too. Just guessing tho.
  22. Flexibility within a class is right down my alley. These descriptions and concepts are making me very happy. Also.....Monks.
  23. Good point about the spear/shield. Most of the time it seems games focus on the heavier long-spear I guess. Weren't spears used with shields typically of the shorter versions, aka javelin type spears? Come to think of it, slightly off-topic, it might be interesting to have javelins in the game as another ranged option with bows and slingshots. Throwing axes too. Don't know if that would start to be unwieldy or too much work, however.
  24. I have to admit that in most games I've played, hardly anyone seems to choose the weapons like spears and halberds...simply because a sword/shield combo is typically perceived as better in terms of stats and protection gained. But I'm sure some 2H weapons and other ranged outside of the longbow etc will be in there so you can use them as an option. Can't imagine why there wouldn't be. I think it'd be kinda neat to come across an enemy band who used halberds and formed a hedgehog as a defensive move against a melee rush. Not saying it's practical for this type of game, perhaps, but it'd be funny to see.
  25. 50 minutes does seem very short. A stretch goal of the sort you mentioned would be fantastic. I dunno...most game soundtracks seem about 50-100 minutes -CD length basically. Considering most probably wouldn't be 5 minutes long, that can be quite a number of pieces of music. I have a feeling it'll be fine.
