Early play
LadyCrimson replied to Madpaddy's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
I don't recall that ever being said. Perhaps you're thinking of the backer beta, that was accessible at certain pledge tiers? -
I have no idea what they're like in person/to work with, but this is sorta like breaking up Kirk/Spock/McCoy. Those three worked so well together (at least on screen) and had a synergy that was vastly entertaining, often making me sit down to watch a show that normally I wouldn't have much interest in what it does. Ah well. All things must end eventually.

Dump stat constitution ?
LadyCrimson replied to endruwiggin's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Interesting. I'm so used to health/con being at least somewhat important in most games. Maybe I'll try an all low-Con party. ...I'm probably going to go insane with the learning curve, since I haven't been keeping up with all the beta or build info these months. Good times! -
I'm not sure how that compares to the ATI Radeon HD 4850 or NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT listed in the min. specs - it's better than some onboard video of the past but still not super great. I've seen some play other Unity early access games with HD 4000, but not sure how those games compare to whatever PoE is doing with it. At any rate, I'd bet it'll at least run at low graphic settings and all that.

The mid-late 90's are mostly a giant blur for me, TV wise. heh.

Brain and eyes have had enough staring at a close monitor for a while, so I think I'm going to now ... sit farther back and watch a movie on the monitor. Probably Predators 2010, because for some reason I feel like listening to Adrien Brody's growly voice. He was really great in that action role.

PRE-LOAD is now available!
LadyCrimson replied to Slish's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Yeah...it gets decompressed later when full installation takes place. -

Oh, that I'm well aware of. It was just the Steam/Origin thing that I was wondering about. Yeah, Uplay. Ubi's on my s**t list, so I avoid that like the plague. Oh, doh, brainfart. I was probably thinking UPlay, not Origin, when I posted earlier. My bad. No actual clue on Origin. -

I don't think there's any that required both, no. It's just that if you bought some of them via Steam, because you like having all your games in one place or something, you still had to sign up/use Origin as well. At least, that's what I heard/understood. -
Official Keys Thread v 1.01

That's possible. It's been a long time I don't remember offhand what all the backer tiers were offering etc. -

^ It's more like backers and any other digital purchase buyers have a choice of choosing (or buying, if not a backer already) via GoG (no drm) or Steam (form of drm in this case). But retail "box" copies will be Steam. I'm guessing that = can install from disc but still have to use Steam to verify/run it, but not 100% sure on that. edit - that's how Fallout NV worked, as I recall, if you bought the disc, which is why I bought it on Steam vs. disc, since I figured I had to have Steam regardless. -

Now that they're here, I suddenly can't decide whether to redeem with GoG or Steam. I was going to go with Steam for convenience etc. but on the other hand I like separate patch versions and GoG tends to do that better. ...phooey, I'm indecisive this evening. -

Not entirely avoided, no...but no stream watching or obsessive info hunting/sourcing for me. During/after the Kickstarter I was super hyped. But 2+ years is a long time and after a while I've been busy doing other things and was away for a while to boot, so now I'm a lot more mellow about it all. But I'm definitely looking forward to getting my hands on the finished game at last. It's been a long wait.

Keys ? When ?
LadyCrimson replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
It's not getting the game earlier, it's being able to pre-load. It's not like they can actually play it yet, just saves time downloading it on release day. Common thing for Steam pre-orders these days. ...but I do know what you mean. If a backer wanted to use their key on Steam, it'd be nice to be able to pre-load it as well, soon. -
I can understand why people don't want to see/read them. Are the backer-tombstones at least different looking, or set apart in certain areas, or anything like that? That would at least help so people didn't have to click them (that they were easily recognizable). Dunno tho...if they're all mixed in with other lore tombstones etc. that'd be more problematic. At any rate, as someone else said, whatever was done, too late to change anything at the moment. I can't even recall what I put on my survey thingie re: that. I avoided it for a long time then finally felt like I had to turn it in, so it's probably some brief quote I liked from something. Not even sure if I submitted it in time, and doesn't matter to me if not. >.>

Inbetween attempts at loading/reading the forums, using the Lean Mean Grilling Machine to cook up a series of small boneless porkchops for a late lunch. Don't love the thing, but it works and more importantly, is easy use/clean, vs. a messy frypan. Just for sandwiches anyway, mostly. Guess I'll be sitting on the couch watching TV, laptop in hand, while waiting to see if the PoE keys are truly coming today or not.

Keys ? When ?
LadyCrimson replied to Skysect's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Stop that, you're slowing down the forum. ...more seriously, I wonder, when they do announce it, if I'll manage to get to the backer portal and grab my key before Obsidian's web server explodes. *wink* I might decide to wait a bit instead. Just a bit. -
Yikes. When we had a pool, I went outside once and the pool pump was pouring water out because the top of the unit had popped. At least that was outside tho. Are you going to replace the carpet? I'd be worried about mold because of my allergies. :/ Anyway, hope it dries out quickly!

When I first saw the 2nd incarnation of the Act3 boss in Path of Exile for the 1st time, a while back, my first thought was: "Evil Demon Bunny!" Or rat. It could be a Demon Rat. With a blueberry nose. At any rate, I remember laughing. I hope they were aiming for silly because it sure wasn't scary.

I haven't watched any twitch/videos, but I agree with this statement. There's often a large learning curve for the player to boot, even if one is familiar with general concepts of such games. Especially if one hasn't played one in a while. Also, live and blind streaming is quite different from something like most YouTube Let's Plays.

Multiplayer in expansion?
LadyCrimson replied to gnoemli's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
The only time I tried MP in this type of game was Icewind Dale, I think. Someone I knew online ... it went something like this: ::We ran around a bit ::First combat encounter, friend paused the game (which paused everything for me too). Repeatedly, like he was in single-player. I figured that habit was going to be hard to break so we didn't repeat the attempt. Heh. But yeah ... the era of mass persistent MMO's or at least limited size grouping games like Diablo or FPS are what most people think of when "multiplayer" is mentioned, now. Which is why I think there's often such a negative response. But there was a time when multiplayer was a bit different in concept.- 65 replies

I don't mind some flash/action but it's just gone way overboard these days. Shows that started better in that regard (CSI Vegas) are now just like all the rest (or worse). I like emphasis on characters and the mystery development, not whiplash music/video montages. Anyway, yeah, I think I've heard of that series, but never watched it. If I can find it, I'll check it out.
