It's not all that clever or complicated (or original w/time travel) and instead it's mostly an exercise in obfuscation. It's not a film tactic I'm generally fond of, if used in excess. This doesn't make it a bad movie nor do I blame the film for taking that direction. They were trying something different. But the film itself isn't very entertaining as a film, imo, outside of the "wtf" and PoV discussions it may inspire afterwards as to "what really happened" and "what it means." eg, it's a mind**** movie. If you think it's brilliant in this regard, you're going to like it. If you don't, it's just meh. Btw, I'm not claiming I understood everything 1st-view. I am not so smart, especially since I don't always understand the jargon such fiction is based on. My husband understood (he's my personal-explainer during some movies) and he spent a lot of the movie frowning. He tends to react to too much tech-jargon similar to the way I react to something like the bio-science explanations in ST:TNG episode "Genesis." Sometimes you should let the fiction aspect just be fiction and stop trying to make it sound like real/proven science.

Seen it already. I wasn't impressed.

The bottom screenie just reminded me of a shot from Dead State I guess.
-
Bokishi, you're such a tease. Keyrock, is that Dead State?

If you get a dog, Woldan, I demand lots of gorgeous scenery photos with a dog's curious nose sticking up in the foreground.

Predestination. (haven't read the story) Hm. Mixed feelings. On the one hand, nice that it's not just an action flick. On the other hand, I did figure out the "omg" moment long before the moment and it's yet another "it's a paradox that really shouldn't be possible" type of time travel thingies. Not to mention you can see all kinds of possible solutions other than the one they seem to put forward. So...yes, I liked it, but sometimes I wish they'd go back to making time travel about Back to the Future or Terminator vs. trying to be so smart they end up not seeming that smart after all. Where the latter tends to work better on the page than in a movie.

No Thrown Weapons?
LadyCrimson replied to Magnificate's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
So no slingshots? Ah well...I shall miss them, a little. Not because they were awesome weapons, but because they weren't daggers, staves or bows. I'm sure the mechanics/classes etc. will have stuff I'll like/use just as much in PoE, regardless. -
There was this one ds9 episode in the early first season that I liked, some alien guy with honor/death issues. My girlfriend and I were all "hits you right here" when we saw it. But my main issues with DS9 were that I couldn't get into any of their conflict-arc issues. Too...political. I did try occasionally checking an episode here and there later...always put me to sleep. Also...I am not a fan of Ferengi. At all. The security guy was cool tho. I always like Rene.

Soon as I saw him, was waiting for a death scene. Didn't have long to wait! *immediately gets excited* Ed Harris and Liam Neeson??? I AM SO THERE.

Equilibrium - sci-fi, dystopian world films from 2001 (or thereabouts) with Christian Bale. Never heard of it, gave it a shot. I can see why I may have never heard of it. The acting was generally fine, but yeah...you can tell where the main influence/s come from. It had a few moments due to Bale's "awesome-cheekbones-of-seriousness-method-acting" and I did like the concept of emotion vs. no emotion (Vulcan does it better tho) but pretty mediocre. Also ... "gun-fu."

@Longknife - sometimes you have to stop asking/wondering why something is and just accept that it is, and move on. Especially regarding us quirky humans. It's pretty good for the blood pressure, too. @Gorth - That is probably my favorite Monty Python sketch. @Kaine - Happy 23rd. @myself - you know how sometimes you feel worse when you sleep a little too much vs. when you sleep too little? That's me this morning. ..edit: Forgot one! @Rosbjerg - OF COURSE we want you to upload pictures, silly. Now get on that.

I rode in this carnival ride once, some car-looking thing that's actually a rolls-on-metal-pylons theater, where you sat in a seat and watched a driving scene as the whole contraption rolled and moved side to side. I came out of it with rattled shoulders and a motion tension neck headache. I wonder what my response to that thing would be. It looks more comfy, but...

@TrueNeutral/Manifested - face exercises have been a secret of (some) women for ages. We always think to exercise our bodies ... faces are part of it and there are a lot of muscles in the face. Helps keep the face from sagging so much as you get older. At least that's the theory. I'm not quite old enough to truly test that one yet. Also, one of my favorite biographical stories when I was a kid was the guy who "laughed himself" back to health. Not that it was that simple of course. But I loved the story. First forcing himself to laugh, then becoming more and more genuine with his attitude and perhaps his wellness improving with it. Smiling and laughter are great happiness/attitude tools, I think. I can't remember who that was, back in the early 80's maybe, someone my parents were familiar with. omg I'm dying.

Apparently I've created a Netflix monster (hubby). He just started watching the Alias series, now. I didn't know Bradly Cooper was in it. It seems a bit over the top action-wise (JJ Abrams?) but watchable. Think it's worth continuing with?

@Longknife - are you talking about discussions on the internet or in real life? Because while some of what you're talking about happens face to face, certainly, it happens a ton more on the internet. A ton more. Which is why I don't generally involve myself in debates or long discussions on the internet anymore. I got tired of the circles and sometimes assumptive attitudes (including my own, at times, haha). Anyway, I'm not a lawyer, and I'm sure most of the time I'm one of the disorganized and chaotic thinkers (especially as I get older, I think i become less lucid....), but I do think I understand what you mean, at least. It can definitely be frustrating. Sometimes you just have to roll with it...or keep searching for those groups/friends that are more similar re:their discussion styles.

Funky/ugly looking, isn't it? Pretty heavy for its size (fits in my palm). It's just common quartz, I think, but I've always wondered if it's a little hollow inside or fully packed with tons of small quartz crystals. You can see a bit of crystal in the broken spot in the center, if you look closely. But the mystery may be more interesting than the actual answer...so I leave it alone.

Aww....I see. Darn. Not that I was planning on going crazy shopping now, but I could use a good site for that sort of thing. My great uncle had a gem/mineral shop and used to give us kids cheap examples of polished/unpolished stones. Probably where mine came from. I have this funky rock I found on a beach that looks like the inside part of a geode with the outer stone layer largely washed away. I've been afraid to slice it open tho, to find out/see if it's anything actually interesting inside.

Isn't it funny how one's feeling about a game can turn on a dime like that? That was one reason I never finished the game. I liked it but I figured I wasn't "good" enough to be able to deal with attrition, much as I liked the way they did things. I miss too much/use too much ammo in most shooters. lol

Link, please? I used to go to the mineral/gem shows in the city. I love that kind of stuff.

Boots of Speed!
LadyCrimson replied to TheisEjsing's topic in Pillars of Eternity: General Discussion (NO SPOILERS)
Sneakers of speed? ...yeah, gotta love those speedy shoes. -
Off-topic: Makes me think of Supernatural's episode where Dean could understand animals, and got into an argument with a pigeon who "bombed" his car...

...and the guy is not half bad either.

11 people killed at a French satirical Newspaper
LadyCrimson replied to Meshugger's topic in Way Off-Topic
I just don't understand the world today ... or the one from yesterday, so to speak, for that matter. -
I tried to watch The Interview, largely because of the "controversy" around it that I read about. I knew it likely wouldn't be my kind of film, tho, and after about 30 minutes, I turned it off. Don't find it offensive, btw...just not my kind of humor generally speaking these days (boring). I was just curious.
