Then the whole system, shouldn't be called "Proficiency" in the first place. Because Proficiency means Efficacity. It was all about getting better at something. Getting a Malus when you choose to be "proficient" at something is... just weird. No ? I'm ok with some sort of a tradeoff though, but I expected at least "Ranks" within the Proficiency System. & not being Proficient in 24 weapons by the end of the Game. EDIT : About "Nobody will use a weapon he's not proficient with". That's the whole point of it, it's a commitment. The Newbie that really wanna use the new found weapon he's not proficient with, can learn how to press a button called "Respec a Character". Right now, by the end of the Game, the entire range of weapons proficiencies will be covered by your entire group. There's always going to be someone in your group who will be proficient in any given weapon. Pick a Proficiency every 1/4 Level was already bad, now it's even worse being a 1/3 Level pick.

Less Ressource Management isn't an Improvement, it's the opposite, but that's my opinion. You mean this one ? Ok, we both have an agreement then. Well, of course, if you play on Relaxed Difficulty & have 99 Resting Supplies there's no problem. When you have only two Camping Supplies for an entire dungeon, suddenly things you mention becomes less Mental & more Practical. That's where you have to manage your ressources & stop spamming brainlessly. In fact that was the whole point of why they introduced limited Camping Supplies, to avoid the "Rest Spamming" from previous Games. That, was an Improvement.

You have already a limit (class ressources). Contrary to Tyranny for exemple. But now, it is more strategic because you can use all your spells for each battle, each new situation. Problem is more full list of spells for casters (druid/priest) which has been removed. This limits possibilities. , Maybe I'm misreading this but these lines seem full of Contradictions. How can it be more strategic to spam every spells in every fights, versus, having to think twice before using one that you may need in the next fight ? You know, that One very specific Spell, you wish you didn't use, because you really need it this time ?I'm sorry but "spamming every spell you have, like no brain, just because you can"... Cause they will all be available in the next fight anyway, is less Strategic than having to think twice before taking any Action you might regret afterward. How a Full List of Spells can be more limiting, versus having 2, [Max 3] Spells only to use ? I mean, it's literraly written : 2-3 Spells Max are more limiting than a Full List of Spells, no ? It's like you're mixing everything up, and then taking all of it upside down. Or I really don't understand you're way of thinking. I mean no offense of course. --------------------------------------------------------------- Demeisen & LampStaple's approach is the correct one for me here. And to be honest, I could not describe it better than what they did here.

Disclaimer : This might turn out as a Salty post, but I want to assure everyone at Obsidian that my passion for the Game is still there, my support for you will certainely never fade out & I'm going to enjoy the Story & Everything Deadfire's has to offer, despite the flaws it may have. I absolutely do not intend to harm or hurt devs with the following. Good : + Character Creation. + Visual Upgrade, the Game looks great. + Multiclass/Subclass in general. + Exploration feels awesome. + Empower is a great concept & a good idea on paper, I love it. However, because combat feels bad, it is bad. I'll developp a bit more below. ... Well, in fact, I'll go for the Bad now, but you can consider everything that isn't mentionned below, as "Good". Like, Story, Dungeons, Etc. I mean, the Whole Pillars II Experience will be great, I'm sure, but there's what follows : Bad : - Spellcasting as everyone said. - Combat / Power Source & Abilties. There's not enough things to do ! The Power-Source is limiting as f**k, I can launch 1, 2 or max 3 Abilities/Spells. Either a Fight is finished before I could cast any Spell, either all my Abilities are drained by the AI in 10sec, leaving me with nothing to do but Auto-Attacking. Yes, I could Empower myself to cast One or two more Spells, but then ? I'm done. I used to think before using a Spells, now I just spam, Fights after Fights. Remember "Consecrated Ground" from Durance ? That thing was so valuable & rare, that I had to think twice before using it. Should I use it in this small fight ? Or keep it if a bigger one happens until I rest ? Now it's just there, I can use it in every random fight against random Rats & that's ok. Well no, it's not ok. In fact the whole new Source stuff, Per-Encounter.... Hell, everything about the combat in POE II, feels inferior than POE I. Except the Empowering Mechanic, which could have been great ! Pillars' 1 Combat today feels better than Deadfire's. That leads me to the "What The Hell Happened Section". EDIT : Also yeah, the Proficiency System : I expected Ranks, with Accuracy Bonus or whatever, like many have said already. I agree with them. What The Hell Happened ? Most of it has been covered in another post of mine, here : https://forums.obsidian.net/topic/92515-josh-sawyers-tweets-and-teasers/?p=1978593 [Please take a look] It all revolves around one thing : What happenned to the Improvements made over Two-Years, to reach the Quality of 3.0 ? Seems like all the hard work that you've done to reach the Quality of Combat in Pillars I, completely disappeared with the new Combat System. Basically said, when Combat in Pillars Of Eternity 1, FINALLY felt Right, Balanced, Fun, Tactical, Diversified, Engaging, Challenging, Rewarding, Etc, when 3.0 came out... Is now kinda F*cked up, & you have to rebalance Everything from the start all over again, like 3.0 never existed. Half the Spells from the First Game has been cut : Because someone poped up & said : "Huh, sometimes I can't remember which spells does what & Blablabla"... To that person : "Use your f*cking right-click & read the f*cking description, then you'll know what the f*cking spell is about." [Pro Tip] : If you can't Right-Click for whatever reason, today is your lucky day : You can Mouseover things & get all the informations you need, it's awesome. The so-called "Might Issue" is complete Bull****. , it should have never been changed because some people can't read a freaking Description, again, for what "Might" is & does, both Spiritually & Physically. Final Note : The Whole Pillars II Experience + 3.0 Combat System + The Empower Mechanic, is what Deadfire should be in the end for me. Everything else looks f*cking great guys, it's just the overall Combat Experience, that feels like a thousand steps-back from what it was.

Well, all of these questions are posted on his "Ask Me Anything" Tumblr, in the end he's the one who choose wether he answers or not, at his own pace. He answered some of mine in the past, and some not. He does this as he wants to. He could totally don't give a f*ck about these questions and move on, but he's kind enough to read them & provide any insight whenever he can. Of course, I hope nobody comes in & say : "Hi Josh, I don't have any question. Just to let you know that : You suck, your games suck, your life sucks & you can suck my c*ck."Please people, don't do that... Also, I feel like most of the time, these questions are just "random questions", not complaints.

Looks Great Daled ! Good job ! -
Jokes aside, this post will probably end up being brutal but passion can be brutal sometimes... It still bugs me that they decided to apply such drastic changes after all the hard work they've done to reach the 3.0 Quality. I mean, they litteraly threw everything they've made to balance it. Combat felt great, the pace was good, casters were fine, etc. Now everything is f**cked up again. Some said they struggled to indentify what happens in combat because of , quote : "VFX Overload". So they changed the party size to 5 : Ok I'm sad, but I can deal with that. Adam implemented a VFX Opacity which basically, F**cking solves the "VFX Overload" by itself. Great ! You're DONE now ! Everything is Ok ! And then, somehow, everything else that made POE Combat finally great, has been thrown away. ------------------------------------------------------------------ They wanted to implement the Empower thing : Why wouldn't they add that, iterate around it, to make it work over the 3.0 system. Empower is a good addition & a good idea on paper.------------------------------------------------------------------ Then, we've all witnessed the so-called "Might Issue", which is total bullsh*t to be honest. Seriously, Might wasn't, and has never been associated with muscles. Only dumbass people that had such a restricted mind, and couldn't work their head around it, claimed that Might made no sense, because they could'nt read a f**cking description. When you add Might to a Wizard, you just have to understand that you enhance his Spiritual Power, not his muscles, doesn't that makes sense ? When you add Might to a Fighter, you enhance his Physical Power, it's just englobed into the same category. But no, they decided that Might is "only about muscles, it doesn't make sense omg lol xD lmao". ------------------------------------------------------------------ There are too many things to say, and I start getting lost in my own point. So, to summarize : All the balance they've made to achieve the 3.0 Quality, they threw it all... & now, have to rebalance everything, all over again from the beginning, because it f*cked things up. They wanted to introduce new mechanics... Ok great ! Do it ! But do it so it works around the system that is already in, and make it work with it. In addition to that, they cut half the things that were already there to help the game feel better, which f*cks things up even more. ------------------------------------------------------------------ By the way, I agree with Boroer's point about the so-called "Feedbacks" and cutting Spells out of the game. ------------------------------------------------------------------

Or simply a Primary & Secondary "Color Wheel" ? [saturation & Contrast 0% > 100%] Infinite degrees of variations. I wonder why it's not a Default Implementation in many games... A color is just a color, I really don't know why we're always restricted to limited finite choices for colors. Not pointing at Deadfire in particular, it's in every game. But that's still kinda dumb. Good to know more will be available though !

[Spoilers] A Look At : Enchantments & High Level Spells
DexGames replied to DexGames's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
You're maybe misreading it, what I read is that : it CAN instant-kill a creature IF if it's a Vessel/Spirit/Summon Below your Lvl. It doesn't say it's tied to the Raw Damage value, it just kills it & no need for a value. Why bother making this Value be 769230 when 20k would probably be more than enough. [Part of why I say the description is bugged, this number is Insane] if it's not one of these, maybe it still deals basic damage, [40-70], regardless if it's a Beast or whatever. [40-70 seems ok for a Lvl IX Spell as basic damage] It says it uses the Raw Damage value, ONLY if the Creature's Lvl is Equal or Above yours. So that could work on Eothas on paper. [i know it won't, but you know what I mean] Or maybe I'm misreading it. Still, it's intriguing.- 18 replies

[Spoilers] A Look At : Enchantments & High Level Spells
DexGames replied to DexGames's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Yeah yeah, what I meant was that the Penetration is probably only tied to the Regular 40-70 & not on the Raw Damage it can deals, because of what you said (which is correct). But I don't know... According to description, this Spell either apply the 40-70 OR the Raw Damage but it can't be both, so I'm guessing that's where the Penetration comes in... Kewl for sure ! Bracers have a grey'ed "Enchant" button : Beza's Tooth Blade, [& Every other Unique Yellow Items], have more Enchantments attached to them, but they're all bugged with no Description. Can only see "Biting Cuts"... I'm starting to be skeptical on whether we'll be able to find Recipes in the World after all... & that Enchantments will all be known again like Pillars I... Which would be a huge disappointment... again. It made no sense back then, [to me], to know everything there's is to know about enchantment, & the same would apply here. Nonetheless, I still keep in mind that we saved that Dwarf in Valewood [?], after Cîlant Lys, who's the only person EVER in the Dyrwood who gives us a Unique cooking Recipe. [Yeeeh...] So maybe it is something they did want to include & had to retract from this feature on the last minute, because of everything else, way more important, that needed to be done back then. Could still be a thing in Deadfire but that's worrying me, to be honnest. WE WANNA FIND COOL ENCHANTMENTS, AND WE'VE ALREADY TOLD THEM IN THE FIRST CAMPAIGN ! COME ON GUYS !- 18 replies

[Spoilers] A Look At : Enchantments & High Level Spells
DexGames replied to DexGames's topic in Backer Beta Discussion
Because of the basic 40-70 Damage I guess, but overall, I think the description & values are quite certainely bugged. I mean, if Eothas' considered a Spirit, Vessel or a Summon in its Boss Fight, Great AOE of Abjuration & Byebye, I've just One-Shot Eothas & everyone in the Area. I've noticed that too. But that's what scrolls does ^^... 769 230 Raw Damage in 1.4sec Cast Time seems legit to me, for a Level IX Spell.- 18 replies

It's a Passive Skill you can invest in, like Stealth, Athletics, Etc. It's the Equivalent of "Lore" in Pillars I for the usage of High Level Scrolls.- 18 replies

Enchantments : It's written "Known Recipes", so, finding Enchantments Recipes seems to be a thing in Deadfire now. That's great, I always wanted to be able to find Unique Enchantments in the First Game. Unfortunately, there's nothing at the moment in the Backer Beta except the regular "Quality Increase" for Weapons, Shields and Armors. Vektor doesn't sells any, and the Racist Lady didn't want to open her store for me. B*tch... ------------------------------------------------------------------- High Level Spells : As for High Level Spells, there's some pretty cool Stuff. Look at the Damage on "Great Abjuration". Level VIII : Level IX :
