I will work until late on the 8th and most of the 9th. But I'll spend the evening on the 9th on character creation. I haven't finished my third PoE playthrough yet and I'll probably want to finish it first, since there isn't much left and I'd like to use the endgame save. I usually wait a few days before playing a new game just in case there is a serious bug.

I was thinking of alternating between guns and backstabbing. But I haven't checked much the Beta, so I'm not sure what works best. I don't want to be a rogue with a greatsword. I want a more pirate-like character with guns, a shortsword or stilettos. In fact, my character was a duel wielding stiletto priestess of Skaen (one of Boeroer's builds ). So I can backstab with an arquebus? It doesn't work with dual wielding? Sorry for my ignorance. I have a lot to consider to choose my character...

I hope I'm missing something, but I see basically zero synergy between a ranger and a wizard. I suppose one could go for a Stalker/Wizard summoned weapons and buffs melee build, though even that is probably worse than the other melee wizard combos. But that doesn't apply to Maia anyway since she's a Gunhawk, which is presumably some kind of ranged/guns focused subclass. That is a pretty good idea. I'm undecided between having Maia Rua as a Geomancer or Aloth as a pure Wizard in my party. Maybe I'll do as you say. Maia's annoying, because she specialises in something that seems to go actively against the best Geomancer build. She's built around guns, but it seems like the right way to build a Geomancer is as a melee specialist. Both summoned weapons and the pet scale with character level, so if you build into that aspect you're essentially getting a "full power" multiclass. Take the summoned weapons you want to use and buffs from wizard, and the pet passives from ranger. It things in melee with a wolf. Voila. I don't care much about synergy in this case. I want Tekehu, Xoti and Serafen in my party. The last spot would ideally be a Wizard, but I like Maia, so I'm considering having her as a Geomancer. My Watcher will be a Swashbuckler, but if Maia will be bad as a Geomancer, maybe I should consider being an Assassin/Wizard and make Maia a single class Gunhawk.

Blackjackets main draw is they can switch any weapon extremely fast, and also have an extra weapon slot. So a blackjacket can actually carry more weapons than any other character (if you give them the extra weapon slot perk), and as a result can always have a weapon effective against the enemy type in all encounters. Of course thanks to Sawyer drawing attention to it people have also realized you can just spam guns this way too by carrying like 4 blunderbuss and quick swapping them.

I can't decide between two of my characters from PoE. I'll either be a swashbuckler (streetfighter/unbroken or assassin/?) or a single class druid (fury). All my caster companions will be single class, except Maia Rua, if I want her as a wizard. My third character is a Bleak Walker and I'll multiclass into a Templar (Magran) when I play Deadfire. Is the assassin/black jacket a good combination? I don't know if I understood correctly the little I read in the beta/builds sections of the forum, but it seems the black jacket can be used to switch guns quickly. And the assassin is always a good choice for rogue.
