Well, this federal employee thanks you! Well, if I look at it as buying you a drink (or many) it does take some of the sting out of it I wouldn't temp Enoch with a drink just yet, he has to show a measure of control till Mrs. Enoch pops out Enoch JR. Actually now is the time to indulge. He'll be too busy and tired soon!

I just finished doing my taxes. And writing the biggest check of my life to the IRS. Needless to say I'm in a pretty foul mood right now.

Happy belated b-day Nep.

We didn't say anything when they came for the smokers...

Just reading everyone's posts here brings me to two points I'd like to make. First off many of you seem to be using the words "regulate" and "educate" interchangeably. They are of course very different things. I'd have no problem with a government at any level spending money on educating the public to make healthy choices on their vices and eating habit. I think that money could be better spent on other things but... whatever. Regulation is a whole horse of another color. That is big brother coming into your homes, cars, personal spaces and pushing you around telling you what you may and may not eat/smoke/drink. It is tyranny even if he smiles and tells you it's for your own good. Sin taxes on things the government does not think you should have are a terrible idea. Taxation is not supposed to be used as a form of behavior modification. All to often it is and it ends up being both heavy handed and unfairly applied. The other point is that many of you, heck most of you, seem to view your governments as a paternal entity that cares for you and wants good things for you. Nothing could possibly be further than the truth. Governments, or the people in them, love themselves. They love their power and their influence and their (really your) money. Nothing else. They do not give a damn about you. If they think about you at all it is with indifference at best, contempt and disrespect at worst. You really do not want to give these people any more power over you and yours than is absolutely necessary to keep a society functioning. It always makes me wonder that even in this very thread many of you have vilified corporations who only care about money yet revere governments who only care about money.- 165 replies

I had something witty to add but after reading Azdeus's post I can't remember what it was. Something about taxes I think.

My favorite was the Revan identity reveal cutscene in KOTOR. But then again I didn't see it coming so it had some good shock value.

Honestly I'd rather play a fantasy RPG that is an original IP rather than something that has been forced to conform to a specific (and old and stale) canon. Unless of course the Planescape setting could be revived. I'd sell body parts for a well done, modern Planescape game on the scale of the Elder Scrolls games.

Wow, somehow 1984 seems more real every day. What did I tell you guys about healthcare when the US started the Obamacare BS; healthcare is the ultimate backstage pass into every aspect of our lives. Of course they want to control it. They want to control us and that is the means to the end. Everyone knows smoking, drinking, eating the wrong stuff is bad for you. Most folks do it in moderation, those who don't usually aren't surprised when bad stuff happens. But this initiative isn't about saving anyone. None of the things like this ever are. Reading things like this make me want to buy more guns and more ammo. Of course the WHO and the American left wants to take those away too.- 165 replies

Wow, that was just awful. But I did like the commercial about how watching the Superbowl when your team wasn't in it was like watching some other guy dance with your girl. It is a lot like that. Well, no way Manning will retire now. He won't want that game to be the last one he plays. So we have that to look forward too. Now begins the loooong wait for Spring Training. At least we'll have the Olympics to distract us.

I'd blame the god damned government that thinks it has more right to your earnings than you do. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=QPKKQnijnsM Yes.. the government.. You know something mkreku, in all the years we've been posting on these boards I don't remember ever expending a single pixel or byte telling you how f---ed up Sweden is, or what I think Sweden is really like. Or what I read on the internet about what Sweden is really like. I always figured that since I've never actually lived there... how would I know. Imagine that.

Hey, I think there might be a football game on today. I seem to remember hearing something about that around all the hoopla about commercials and halftime shows.

I really haven't been watching much this season except for a few Grizz games but that thumping OKC handed the Heat the other night, especially after trailing by so much, really made me smile!

Just finished "Red Sniper" by Josef Pilyushin. He was a Red Army sniper during the siege of Leningrad. It's a great book that shows a lot of what the day to day life of a WWII Russian soldier was like. Now reading Rin Tin Tin by Susan Orlean about all the dogs that have played the role and how they were trained. Also re-reading 1984 for the third or fourth time. The parallels are really scaring me.

This morning I took Tommy out to do his business. I set a cup of coffee on the porch rail, walked over to the edge of the porch to knock down the ice from the gutter. By the time I got back to the coffee cup it was starting to freeze. That's too freaking cold. Needless to say I didn't go back out after that.

I believe it is massless, and weight is dependant on mass, so I don't believe so. I may br wrong. Wasn't there supposed to be some kind of connection between mass and energy? Theoretically

What is it about lawyers and scotch? I've got so send you so genuine Kentucky small batch bourbon. The kind you won't find at home (or would have to pay a kings ransom for if you did). I promise you'd never look to the British Isles for your booze again!

The funny thing is if folks see a man in public with a gun as long as he isn't acting weird or threatening anyone it really doesn't get much thought. But if you see a guy with a sword the automatic assumption is that he's nuts even if he's not doing anything wrong. At least that's how it is around here. I'd still go for the reloading supplies. Besides, I'm sure you heard the story about the guy who brought a sword to a gunfight. It's a pretty short story.

I made pan seared bream (a type of freshwater fish) with red beans and rice. Only I went somewhere even less fancy that where Enoch got his: Cold Creek. It took longer to get them but you can't beat the price. It was pretty good too.
